FOREWORD It gives me great pleasure to present this consolidated annual report on the activities of Gyanjyoti

Foundation under various schemes of the Central & State Governments of the North Eastern States.

Hence this consolidated report was put together.

Since its inception in 2007, the Organization however, emphasized more on the significance

of education and thereafter gradually registered in the year 2011, under Section 3 of the Societies

Registration Act, 1860, to promote multi-dimensional educational activities to the cause of the

people-in-need in both rural and urban areas of the North Eastern Region. It has given due stress on

academic education, vocational education and Entrepreneurship & Skill Development. Gyanjyoti

Foundation has been implementing and extending diverse welfare activities for the cause through

campaigning community awareness, need-based vocational training irrespective of caste & creed

religion. It has completed more than seven years of services as on 31.03.2015.

The Activity Report for 2016-2017 will give the Readers an account of the numerous

programs conducted and implemented by Gyanjyoti Foundation. In the process of development,

Gyanjyoti Foumdation has experienced the success and failure, which has strengthened its vision and

capability to work more effectively for humanity. And I am sure that the activities initiated by the

Gyanjyoti Foundation will continue to grow further to reach newer heights to the cause in

ameliorating the suffering humanity.

I am very much obliged to those benevolent people, Departments and development agencies

for their constant support and immense cooperation and unstinted support have made it possible to

keep our development drive on-going. Further, I convey my heartfelt thanks to all our Members of

the Board of Management for their advice & cooperation. I am also very thankful to the

Administrative Staff of Gyanjyoti Foundation, the Teaching Faculties and Volunteers for their tireless

and firm efforts in different fields of programme activities initiated by the Organization.

ACTIVITIES FOR THE YEAR 2016-2017

PART A GYANJYOTI SKILLS

1. TWO–DAY PHOTOGRAPHY WORKSHOP

Two-Day Photography Workshop Conducted By The Department Of Mass Communication, Asian Institute Of Management And Technology, for under privileged students. The aim of the workshop was to equip the students with the basic leaning of an DSLR camera, and the basics of photography.

2. Placement Linked Skill and Capacity Building Training Program

Gyanjyoti Foundation in collaboration with Oil India Limited trained the first batch of 35 students for Project 'Swabalamban' program. Project “Swabalamban” is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project of Oil India Limited under which it is providing placement linked skill & capacity building program to the youths of OIL operational areas. Its Placement Linked Skill and Capacity Building Training Program for the three months free residential certified course on BPO/Call centre training under the project “Swabalamban”. Mr. Pranjit Deka, General Manager (Public Affairs) inaugurated the program at the premises of Asian Institute of Management and Technology.

3. Training of Watershed Committee on Accounts

Gyanjyoti Foundation in cooperation with Government of Assam Office of the Project

Manager, WCDC (Watershed Cell Development Centres), IWMP (Integrated Watershed Management Programme), Goalpara, conducted a training program, on watershed management. Members of watershed committee were trained for a month on various aspects of watershed management.

PART B Asian Institute of Management and Technology

1. Industrial Visit to Decathlon The students of Semester-IV were taken to an industrial visit to Decathlon on 5th May, 2016. Asst. Prof. Debyajoti Sarma Borbora and Asst. Prof. Nanda Ram Saud accompanied them to the industrial visit where Mr. Tayanavi Gogoi and Ms Dharitri Gogoi of Deathlon guided them throughout the visit. The visit was a good experience for the students as they got the opportunity to observe how the processes go on in the mall, and various other aspects related to business management.

2. Farewell Function for BBA 6th Semester The students of BBA Semester-II and IV organized a Farewell Party for the outgoing students of Semester-VI on 14th May, 2016. The program included a number of performances, quiz, games and speeches where the students shared a great time together.

3. Workshop of Voice and Speech The Department of Management arranged a workshop on Voice and Speech that was held from 16th – 19th September, 2016. Students from the departments of Bioscience, Mass Communication, Computer Science, besides Management attended the workshop. Mr. Anupam Borah was the resource person at the workshop where he discussed the ideas on the uniqueness of human voice and how to use it positively to reach out to the world.

4. Industrial Visit to Nezone Industries Tubes Ltd.

An industry visit was arranged for the students of BBA 5th Semester on 23th

September, 2016 assisted by Asst. Prof. Nayan Talukdar. Nezone Industries is a

leading Steel and Engineering Company in the country and the visit to the

company was beneficial for the students as they could see and understand the

processes of the company and interact with the professionals directly.

5. Faculty Development Program – III A Faculty Development Program for the faulty members of AIMT was organized by the Department of Management from 29th September to 5th October, 2016. Mr. Shaibal Roy, Chief Academic Officer cum Asst. Prof. Dpt. of Management. Mrs. Jina Borthakur was the invited resource person, who conducted the workshop through lecture sessions, interactive sessions, individual counseling and recommendations for each faculty member.

6. Computer Game Competition A three-day Computer Game Competition namely ‘NFS Most Wanted’ was conducted by the Computer Science Dept. on 9, 10, 11 November 2016 at its AIMT Campus. A total of 41 students from the whole institute participated in the event. After the knock-out rounds; the stage was set for the 4 finalist competing for the Best Gamer Title along with prizes. The runner ups i.e. the 2nd and 3rd were also awarded certificates and prizes. Dr. B.K. Nayak, Vice Principal AIMT and Mrs Pallavi B Guha, HOD Computer Science Dept. gave some inspiring talks about the need of such an event.

7. Departmental Wall Magazine inaugurated

The IT Wall Magazine, which is a periodical, run on a notice board, is to enable the students and other members of the Department of Computer Science to post their articles, poems, drawings and other ceremony for the college wall magazine of Computer Science Department, AIMT was held on 8th November, 2016 in the Department. Our guests- Vice Principal, Centre Academic Officer, HODs and Professors of other departments graced the event with their valuable words.

8. Open discussion on job requisites and IT placement The main motive of the open discussion is to break the students illusions of the IT world in the metropolitan cities. The seminar was very fruitful, interesting and encouraging to the students as well as to the faculties. Students have shown enthusiasm for such a seminar that too the topic, Android Development and eagerly looking for another one in coming days. We are thankful to all the faculties and students who have helped us out through course of session and also to Mr. Santosh Kumar Nath, Associate Vice President – Huawei Technologies India Pvt. Ltd. Head of Managed Services Department, GSDC India Job Place: Bangalore.

9. Field trip Assam state zoo cum botanical garden The Department of Bio-Science had organized a field visit to the Assam state Zoo cum Botanical Garden on October 22nd, 2016. The students from B.Sc. Semester-III were taken to the visit, as it is part of their curriculum. Sixteen students assisted by Ms. Jyotimoee Baruah, faculty, participated in the field trip

10. Guest Lecture on Study on Microbes

The Department of Bioscience had organized a lecture session where the chief lecturer was Dr. Saranga Ranjan Patgiri, HoD, Department of Biotechnology & Botany, Cotton College on September 28th 2016. Dr. S. R. Patgiri gave his lecture on study of microorganisms, all the students and faculty members from the department of Biotechnology and Microbiology took part in the session.

11. Guest Lecture on Photosynthesis A seminar on Photosynthesis was conducted by Mr. Dibakar Goswami, Associate Professor, Department of Botany, Hojai College for the students of the Department of Bioscience on 5th of November. The seminar was very fruitful to all the students as well as faculty members.

12. Industrial Visit, Kishlay Snack Products Kishlay Snack Products Pvt. Ltd. includes companies that market a number of snack products and various savoury food items. Nineteen students from the Department of Biological Sciences accompanied by their faculty members visited the Kishlay factory, on 3rd December, 2016, as part of their ‘One Month Training Program on Microbiological Analysis of Different Food Products’ organized by the Department of Biological Sciences. The visit provided the students exposure to industry-work environment and various processes of the factory, which helped them to boost their working spirit. The Dpt. of Bioscience is thankful to Mr. Amit Bajaj, owner of the industry for providing the students opportunity to visit the factory.

13. Industrial Visit: West Assam Milk Producer Co. Union Ltd. A visit to the West Assam Milk Producer Co. Union Ltd. was organized for the students of Semester-III of Biotechnology and Microbiology on September 23rd, 2016. The industry heads on the processes of milk and different milk products such as curd, cream, butter, etc. Faculty members Debaleena Kashyap and Monalisha Barua accompanied the students to the industry where they could closely observe the factory and see how the systems work there.

14. Industry Visit: KK Prime Water, 9th Mile, Kamrup (M) The students of Semester V, Biotechnology and Microbiology were on an industry visit to KK Prime Water, 9th Mile, Kamrup (M), a mineral water processing industry, on 24th September, 2016. The visit is part of the syllabus through which they get exposure to the processes of the industry and the idea of how work is carried on in the factory. Mr. Bharat Singh, Manager, KK Prime Water, guided the students throughout the visit in the factory and the students were assisted by Ms. Jyotimoyee Baruah and Mr. Dream Kumar Das, faculty, Dpt. Bioscience.

15. Awareness Program on Dengue and Malaria The students of the Department of Bioscience arranged an awareness program on dengue and malaria for the students of Geeta Nagar High School on 7th November, 2016. Students of AIMT (Semester I, III, V of Microbiology and Semester I, III, V of Biotechnology) did an excellent job, as they were able to connect and convey their message clearly to the participating students of classes 9 and 10.

16. Industrial Visit to Mission Smile

Mission Smile is an NGO, which has created a Unique Public Private Partnership of a huge magnitude towards creating a ‘Cleft Free’ Assam and North East India. The NGO works in collaboration with the Government of Assam and National Health Mission, also a number of National level Trusts. Students from the Mass Communication department went to visit Mission Smile under the guidance of Assistant Professor Anjan D Choudhury, on the 1st of April 2016, they were assisted by Mr. Mridul Malakar of the NGO during the visit. The visit to this NGO benefited the students, as they were encouraged to work in the field of Development Communication, through which they can work towards the betterment of the society. The students were encouraged to work as volunteers and interns in the field of Development Communication.

17. Awareness Rally & Street Play The Department of Mass Communication arranged an awareness rally and street play, to highlight the message on the importance of voting and voting rights of the citizens as the state was preparing for its assembly elections. The event was held on 6th April, 2016 where the students from all the departments of AIMT took part.

18. Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden

The students of BCM 2nd Semester were taken to a field visit to the Assam State Zoo cum Botanical Garden, on 7th May, 2016 as per their environmental studies syllabus. A group of 21 students accompanied by faculty members – Ms. Sushmita Lahkar and Mr. Dibyajyoti Sarmah. Students recorded the count of flora and fauna in the area and also interviewed Mr Pradipta Baruah, Assistant Conservator Authority.

19. Industrial Visit to Eastern Chronicle

The students of BMC, Semester VI were taken to the office of Eastern Chronicles, the English daily, as part of their industry visit on 23rd, May, 2016. The tour was organized so that the students could understand the various concepts of print media and how to utilize them practically. Ms. Arpita Das, Head, News Operations, Eastern Chronicle, Guwahati, guided the students throughout the visit. The industry visit to the office of the daily was useful as students could closely observe and interact with persons (reporters, editors, sub-editors) involved in the production of the daily, who shared their experiences on various topics such as writing skills, ethical journalism, fact checking, avoidance of plagiarized content besides enlightening them on technical issues like story selection, design and layout, etc.

20. Community Radio Workshop at Gauhati University

The students of BMC Semester-II and Semester IV attended a workshop held at Gauhati University from 2nd June 2016 to 4th June 2016 organized by UNICEF for the media students from different parts of Northeast India. Personalities like Dr. Sbridhar known as the father of community radio gave lecture on community radio's pros and history. The other resource persons of the workshop were - Dr. Ankuran Dutta, and Mr. Qazi. Through this workshop students came to know a new dimension of radio, which could help them in the future.

21. Screening of ‘Tezpur 1962’

The Department of Mass Communication organized a screening of ‘Tezpur 1962’ a National award winning for Best Investigative documentary film by Mr. Samujjal Kashyap. The screening was scheduled on 9th August, 2016, where all the students of Mass Communication participated along with faulty members Dr. Rupa Rani Sonowal, Prakash Jyoti Pradhan, Namrata Saikia and Gaijanglung Pamei.

22. Photography Workshop

A two day Photography workshop was organized by the Department of Mass Communication from 10th -11th August, 2016. The main topics of discussion of the workshop were - Different parts of a DSLR camera, functions and handling for day-1 and information regarding camera angles, lighting and overall use of a DSLR, for day-2. Students of Photography Club Member participated in the workshop whih was focused on girls being able to know more about using a DSLR. Faulty members Mr. Prakash Jyoti Pradhan and Gaijanglung Pamei conducted the same.

23. Guest Lecture on Public Relations The Department of Mass Communication held a Lecture session on Public Relation, on 25th August, 2016. Mr. Nurul Laskar a veteran PR practitioner conducted the lecture where he talked about the qualities of a PR professional, the need of credible information sharing, etc. In the second half of the session he highlighted the current status of the field and offered many suggestions on the opportunities available in the field.

24. Industrial Visit to DDK, Guwahati An Industry visit was organized for the students of BMC Semester I on 1st and 2nd of September, 2016, the students were guided by Assistant Professor Namrata Saikia. On their visit to DDK the students were taken to various departments such as the camera room, rehearsal room, PCR room, studio, earth station, etc. where the students were made to understand the processes and how the departments work in unison with each other. They were also briefed on different concepts of camera shots/angles and functions of lights. Visits like these help students acquire lot of information as they get the opportunity to see, learn and interact with experts in the field.

25. News Anchoring Workshop On 3rd September, 2016, a news anchoring workshop was organized for the budding anchors of AIMT. Ms. Gitashree Talukdar, anchor at Axom News 18 channel was the invited guest who guided the students on developing skills of anchoring, technical issues, pre requisite knowledge and such other tips and tricks of anchoring. The workshop was very fruitful for the students as they could directly interact with an experienced anchor and got to know about different situations of an anchor and how to smoothly tackle them.

26. Film Making Workshop A Film Making Workshop was organized for the students of Mass Communication, AIMT on the 6th and 7th of September, 2016. Mr. Gautam Bora, was the speaker at the event who discussed the history of photography and motion pictures, he further went on to discuss various concepts of film making through case studies of films and screening of some epic films. The two-day workshop was very informative and inspiring session for the budding minds who wanted to take up film making as a challenge.

27. Panel Discussion on Women in Media The Department of Mass Communication, AIMT, organized a panel discussion session where eminent personalities in the field of cinema, such as Mr. Bhaskar Hazarika, director of the film ‘Kothanadi’, Dr. Shantana Bordoloi, veteran film maker, Mr. Bobeeta Sharma, Former Chairperson of the Assam State Film Finance and Development Corporation ltd, Ms. Zerifa Wahid, famous Assamese ingénue and Ms. Urmi Zuvekar, Training and Development Head, NFDC, New Delhi, took part. The event took place on 15th September, 2016, where the speakers talked about ‘Women in Cinema’, the discussion was focused on the struggle women have to face in the film industry. The second half of the discussion was centered on Regional Films or Assamese Films. The panelists encouraged young minds to take up film making in the state to a new level and also appreciate good Assamese cinema produced in the state so that the scenario of the Assamese Film Industry improves. The panelists also interacted with the students and answered their queries towards the end of the session. The penal discussion proved to be of great help to the students as these personalities shared their experience with them.

28. Street Play The students of Mass Communication conducted a street play in the premises of Guwahati Commerce College on 28th September. ‘Unheard Voices’ the street play was performed with the motive to urge the youth to raise their voices against the increasing rate of crime against women and how the society look at rape victims. The play urged the public to change their perspective of how they look at rape victims and encouraged them to fight for justice against any misconduct done to women.

29. Convenster 2016 The Department of Mass Communication, AIMT organized a two-day Media Fest – ‘CONVENSTER 2016’ sponsored by Canon and Wild Trails on 27th and 28th of October at ITA Machkhowa. Convenster 2016 was themed on one of the greatest filmmakers, composer and actor, the world has witne ssed – “The Little Tramp” Charlie Chaplin. An array of programs took place as part of the two-day event, which included - Radio Jockeying, Jingle Making, Quiz, Ad Making and PSM Making Competitions. Besides other programs like – ‘Act Like Charlie’, where participants tried to imitate the great actor; ‘Pictogram 2016’, the annual photography exhibition of AIMT and ‘Ignited 6’ a panel discussion participated by a number of eminent personalities took place. Convenster 2016 also awarded ‘The Upcoming Journalist of the year’, for print and electronic media.

30. Environment Day Celebration AIMT celebrated the environment day in its Bhaskar Nagar campus on 8th June, 2106, where all the departments - Mass Communication, Management, Life Science, Computer Science, along with management and faculty members participated actively to make the event a huge success.

AIMT conducted the event in association with Bhaskar Vidyapeeth School. Many dignitaries were present to embrace the occasion, including Mayor, GMC, Mr. Mrigen Sarania; Deputy Mayor, GMC, Mrs. Bijuli Kalita Medhi; Local Councillor, GMC, Mr. Shashanka Deka; President of BJP, Guwahati Wing, Mr. Mukuta Deka; Secretary of BJP, Guwahati Wing, Mr. Nabarun Medhi; the Principal of Bhaskar Bidyapith HS School, Mrs Dipika Arandhara Phukan and the management of Gyanjyoti Foundation.

Students of AIMT along with those of Bhaskar Vidyapeeth planted 120 saplings in the school playground in the presence of faculty members and management of both the institutes. After the plantation drive, the main highlight of the event was the Street Play “ Seuje’’ performed by students from the department of Mass communication under the drama group name ‘Jagaron’, scripted by Anup Jyoti Koch and directed by Sourav Baruah.

31. Independence Day Celebration

AIMT celebrated the Independence Day at Block-D premises on 15th August, 2016. All the faulty members, admin staff, and workers of AIMT joined together for the flag hoisting ceremony on this special occasion.

32. Vishwakarma Day Celebration

Vishwakarma Day also known as Vishwakarma Jayanti or Vishwakarma Puja is a day of celebration for Vishwakarma, a Hindu god, the divine architect. The faculty members and admin offiers, students and the non-teaching staffs, all gathered at Block-A of AIMT to participate in the Puja celebration on 17th September, 2016.

33. Freshmen Social 2016

Freshmen Social for all the fresher batches of each the department was organized on 27th September, 2016, by the Sports, Cultural and Students Welfare Cell and all the students of AIMT. The program was held at District Library, Gwuahati. All the senior batches of different departments, faculty and staffs of AIMT participated in the event to welcome the fresher’s with a warm heart. A number of competitions were held to entertain the new students who showed their enthusiasm in joining the esteemed institution.

34. Pre-Diwali Festival

On 29th October, 2016 all the departments of AIMT gathered at Block-A to celebrate the festival of light. The celebrations began after the lighting of the lamp ceremony done by Principal Sir, Dr. Niren Deka of AIMT. A number of competitions were held as part of the pre-diwali celebrations which was followed by cultural program arranged by students of different departments.

35. Children’s Day Celebration AIMT celebrated the Children’s Day on 15th November, 2016, that was organized by in collaboration with all the departments of the institute. The program started with inspiring speech by the Vice Principal, Dr. B.K.Nayak. Mr. Debajyoti Sarma Borbora-Asst. Professor of English, Mr. Nanda Ram Saud- Coordinator of IQAC and HOD’s of the four departments of AIMT. All the students (BBA, BMC, Biotechnology and Microbiology Semesters-I, III, and V) participated in the program with lots of enthusiasm.

36. Annual Event – Sanskriti 2017

Sanskriti 2017, the Annual Event of AIMT took place from February 21st to 27th and on 1st March, 2017, where an array of events, including sports, debate and a number of cultural events were organized. These events are held to provide the students a platform to showcase their talents, practice fair play, also to create better bonds among themselves, which helps to break the monotony of everyday class work as well. The various events organized during Sanskriti 2017 were: Cricket, Kabbadi, Relay Race, Singing, Dancing, Painting, Debate, etc. The Annual event came to an end on 1st March with the Grand Finale Cultural Night. The main attraction of the cultural night was the performance by popular artist Dikshu Sarma and along with him was Chayanika Bhuyan, both of them enthralled the audience with their hit numbers .
