Oxiperm ISIA 1
1. Product introduction
Oxiperm ISIA systems produce chlorine dioxide using concentrated solutions of sodium chlorite (NaClO2 25 % or 31 %) and hydrochloric acid (HCl 31-33 %). They are available in six capacity levels, producing 0.5, 1, 2, 5, 10 and 20 kg/h of chlorine dioxide respectively. Oxiperm ISIA capacity is sufficient to treat up to 20,000 m3 of water per hour at a maximum concentration of 1 mg/l ClO2.
Chlorine dioxide solution is produced on demand from concentrated reagents using the reliable sodium chlorite / hydrochloric acid process and is directly added to the water to be treated, without intermediate storage.
Each Oxiperm ISIA capacity level is available in three configurations:
• L to produce chlorine dioxide directly in the basin with the water to be treated,
• N to inject chlorine dioxide solution into a basin or a pipe at atmospheric pressure by gravity,
• P to inject chlorine dioxide solution into a pipe under pressure.
Upon request, Grundfos supplies engineered solutions with the underwater production technology from 50 g/h to 200 kg/h of chlorine dioxide (ClO2).
ApplicationsOxiperm ISIA can be used to dose chlorine dioxide in a very wide range of water treatment applications, both as disinfecting and oxidizing agent.
Usually, it is employed in water purification plants and cooling towers, but it can also be used for raw water treatment and in the food industry, in paper mills and waste water treatment plants.

Effectiveness diagramChlorine dioxide is the disinfectant with the performances closest to the ideal one, as it appears evident from the following diagrams (by Joint Research Centre of the European Commission, Standard and strategies in the European Union to control trihalomethanes (THMs) in drinking water, 1997):

Product benefits
Compact systemOxiperm ISIA can be installed in confined spaces, as operation and maintenance are performed mainly from the front and the sides.
Production on demandThe chlorine dioxide is available "on time and on site", thus there is no requirement for a storage tank. With a chlorine dioxide concentration of 1 g/l (1000 ppm), the product solution is very stable.
Yield and capacity rangeVery effective patented underwater production technology, which requires less chemicals and generates less by-products. Each system is designed for its maximum capacity and is capable to produce in a capacity range between 10 and 100 %.
The chemical reaction yield (EPA method) is 95-98 % for a capacity range between 25 and 100 %. The yield is lower for a capacity range between 10 and 25 %.
Low operating costsOxiperm ISIA systems are set to optimise the sodium chlorite consumption. This reduces the total costs for chemicals.
Automatic production regulationOxiperm ISIA can adapt the production of chlorine dioxide automatically to signals received from a flowmeter in the water to be treated and/or a signal for residual chlorine dioxide, in order to maintain the set values.
Automatic shot dosageThe Oxiperm ISIA system can easily be configured by operators to produce chlorine dioxide for several automatic shots during the day.
Little installation workThe Oxiperm ISIA system is supplied as a package that can be installed on site quickly. Optional accessories simplify assembly and start-up.
Robust designOxiperm ISIA's robust design ensures high operational reliability and low maintenance costs.
Furthermore, the control system makes for straightforward and user-friendly operation.
Multiple injection pointsUpon request, Grundfos supplies an engineered solution for multiple injection points (see page 29).
Conditions for installation• Protect the system against sun and frost
• Install the system in a well-ventilated place
• Protect the system against unauthorized access
• Install the system on the floor in a vertical position
• Place the chemical containers below or next to Oxiperm ISIA
• Provide dilution water connection (flow rate and pressure requirements depend on the model, see next paragraph for technical details)
• Temperature of dilution water: 0 to 40 °C
• Ambient temperature: 0 to 40 °C
• Temperature of the chemicals: 0 to 40 °C.

8. Accessories
Generally, the following accessories are ordered together with an Oxiperm ISIA system. The accessories are pre-assembled at the factory, or the system is prepared for the installation of accessories on site. For a separate supply or installation on site of accessories, contact ISIA or your Grundfos customer service.
Sediment strainersSediment strainers separate solids from liquids, in order to protect the pumps and valves.
For high resistance to chemicals, sediment strainers are made of U-PVC with FPM gaskets.
Sediment strainers for reagent linesStrainers installed inside the skid prevent solids from entering the reagent lines to the dosing pumps and valves.

Sediment strainers for dilution waterFor Oxiperm ISIA configuration P, it is strongly recommended to install a strainer for dilution water outside the skid, in order to prevent solids from entering and damaging the injection pump.
Pressure reducersPressure reducers maintain a certain pressure downstream.
Pressure reducers are made of U-PVC with EPDM gaskets. They have flange connections (PN16 according to EN 1092-1).
For Oxiperm ISIA configurations N and P, a pressure reducer is required in the dilution water line, if the inlet pressure is very high (above about 3 bar) and/or not steady, in order to maintain a regular water flow rate and pressure in the U type reactor. The pressure reducer is installed outside Oxiperm ISIA, at the dilution water inlet.

Solenoid valvesSolenoid valves intercept a reagent line in case of stop command or system safety interlock.
For high resistance to chemicals, solenoid valves are made of U-PVC with FPM gaskets.
Solenoid valves are strongly recommended, if the storage is a fixed tank (more than 1 m3) and/or the reagent level in the tank may be above the Oxiperm ISIA inlet.
Solenoid valves have socket union connections and are installed inside the Oxiperm ISIA.

Flange adaptersFlange adapters are fittings used to change the Oxiperm ISIA inlet/outlet connections from according to EN 1092-1, PN16 (installed as default) to according to ASME B16.5 150 lb. Flange adapters are made of U-PVC and include 1 gasket.

Suction linesSuction lines connect the Oxiperm ISIA reagent inlets to the related storage container, particularly IBC (intermediate bulk container). They have 10 metres of flexible PVC pipe and final flange connections DN15 (according to EN 1092-1 PN16).
The foot valve prevents air bubbles from entering the line, once the pump is primed. Therefore, suction lines can be moved easily even if the tank is empty, without pump suction problems.
The level switch installed above the foot valve allows monitoring of the tank level, and automatically interlocks the system in case of low level. It has 5 metres of cable.

Injection lancesInjection lances avoid the direct contact of the ClO2 solution with the water pipe, which may cause oxidation in the long run. Injection lances also ensure correct mixing between the two fluids.
Injection lances are made of PVDF, and have a wafer connection for installation between flanges, according to EN 1092-1 PN16 or / ASME B16.5 150 lb.
Injection lances are strongly recommended, if the pipe with the water to be treated is made of steel or another material that is not resistant to oxidants.

Flexible triple-layer pipeFlexible triple-layer pipes are used to carry a fluid in a pipe of high chemical and mechanical resistance, without intermediate connections, performing curves with low bending radii, if required.
Flexible triple-layer pipes have a PVDF core (or a core of equivalent material, like PTFE), are reinforced with steel-wire braid of high tensile strength and covered with a polyurethane (PU) layer.
For configuration L, two lines are required to carry the two reagents from Oxiperm ISIA to the L type reactor. Both lines should be installed inside the dilution water pipe, allowing the containment of any possible leakage in the dilution water.
For safety reasons, it is mandatory to use flexible triple-layer pipes supplied by ISIA or approved by ISIA.

Connectors for triple-layer pipesConnectors for triple-layer pipes are required for the connection of Oxiperm ISIA and L type reactor. They are made of PVDF.
For each reagent line, two connectors are required. For each Oxiperm ISIA with L configuration, four connectors are required.
For safety reasons, it is mandatory to use connectors supplied by ISIA or approved by ISIA

FlowmetersVariable area flowmeters are recommended, if Oxiperm ISIA is used with a sodium chlorite (NaClO2) concentration of 25 %.
The standard flowmeter at the related dosing pump outlet is replaced by a variable area flowmeter to monitor the flow with higher precision. The variable area flowmeter is made of the same material, and has the same dimensions and connections as the standard flowmeter used for a sodium chlorite concentration of 31 %.

Analysers
EasyaReadox bio-fouling analyserThe EasyaReadox bio-fouling analyser allows monitoring of the biological sediments in the pipes with the water to be treated, which optimises the ClO2 dosing. EasyaReadox consists of a probe and a transmitter. The probe is made of U-PVC, with EPDM gaskets and stainless-steel electrodes, and has connections with DN25 socket unions. The transmitter requires a 24 VDC power supply.
The EasyaReadox bio-fouling analyser emits an analog 4-20 mA signal that indicates the biological sediment in the pipes, if adequately interpreted.
An EasyaReadox bio-fouling analyser is recommended, if sea water is used for cooling purposes, where shot dosage of chlorine dioxide is normally used.
Advantages
• Online information about biofouling growth on the water-side surface of the condenser tubes
• Defining a proper biocide treatment for a plant in order to optimise the consumption of chlorine dioxide, staying within the restrictions of the law.

Conex DIS-D-A residual chlorine dioxide analyserConex DIS-D-A is designed to control disinfection processes that use chlorine dioxide. It is equipped with an integrated gold electrode installed in a pressure-proof measuring cell made of acrylic glass.
The PLC extension to acquire 4-20 mA analog signal and the wiring to the junction box is included in the delivery.

Conex DIA-G gas warning system for chlorine dioxideIn the unlikely event of leakages, the Conex DIA-G gas warning system monitors chlorine dioxide inside the skid.
The PLC extension to acquire 4-20 mA analog signal and the installation inside the skid with the wiring is included in the delivery.
Features
• Optimum safety thanks to permanent sensor monitoring, alarm relay and optional backup
• Uninterrupted power supply due to an external buffer battery
• Very short response time in case of a sudden change of the gas concentration
• Long and maintenance-free sensor service life
• Sensor recognition and auto-calibration as well as monitoring of sensor life
• Measuring range 0.00 to 1.00 ppm.

PLC extensionThe PLC extension is an additional analog 4-20 mA input terminal with related PLC software programming for managing flowmeter signals. The flowmeter signals are processed by the PLC that automatically regulates the production of chlorine dioxide in function of the flow rate.
Cylindrical tanksCylindrical tanks with a litre scale and a black screw cap, for the storage of reagents.
• Tank material: LLDPE, UV-stabilised (transparent)
• Liquid temperature: -20 °C to +45 °C.
• All cylindrical tanks are prepared for a G 3/4 opening for a drain valve, and have a screw plug (PE/EPDM).
The cylindrical tanks with volumes of 60, 100, 200, 300 and 500 litres include additionally:
• Threaded M 6 inserts
• A G 2 opening for a suction lance or a foot valve, closed with a screw plug
• A flange for an electric mixer with threaded inserts
• Threaded M 6 inserts at the bottom part for floor mounting with a set of floor-mounting brackets.

12. Engineered solutions for multiple injection points
For the Oxiperm ISIA N-type and P-type, Grundfos supplies engineered solutions for multiple injection points. The following information is required from the customer:
• Number of injection points
• Maximum pressure in the pipelines
• Flow rate in the pipelines
• Type of control (manual or automatic). The automatic control might require a modification in the PLC software to manage new I/O signals.
