Creative Activities: 30 Day Lego Challenge (continued)
Sight Word Basketball - Use a trash can or bucket as the basket. Roll a piece of paper to use as your basketball Give your student a sight word to spell If your student spells it correctly they get to shoot the paper ball to make a basket If your student makes a basket they get two points. One for the basket, the other point for spelling the word correctly. If they miss the basket they only get one point. REPEAT with different words. How many points can you get?
Texture Rubbing collage - Use a pencil or a crayon to make texture rubbings of things around your home or yard (ie: the bottom of your shoe, a screen door, a tree trunk). Then, take your rubbings and cut and paste them into a collage.
The What If Game - In order to play this game, think of funny scenarios that will get those little minds moving Here are some examples:
- What if cats barked and dogs meowed ? - What if you (child) could drive? - What if it was sunny all night and dark all day? - What would happen if horses went moo? - What if vegetables tasted like candy and candy like vegetables. - If you want write a story using your silly answers. :)
A New Ending - - Pick a book, maybe one that isn’t exactly a favorite. - Read it the book or have an adult read it to you. - Before you get to the end stop and write your own ending. - Read your ending to someone.
Name Game - - Ask your student to name as many things as he or she can on a topic.
For example - Name things that are red.
- Keep going with different examples. You can even keep score and have a competition.

If your family has toilet paper, it also means you are getting some empty toilet paper rolls! Collect them, and build a marble maze run like the kind we have in Young Innovators. Include drops, hills, and flat runs. Have fun!
Rotten to the core! How long does it take things to rot? Try an experiment at home with an apple peel, a banana peel, and an orange peel. Lay them out inside your house near a sunny window, in a shady spot, and inside your fridge. What makes the peels rot the SLOWEST? Why?
Engineering challenge...try building a rain shelter for a toy. Put the toy in a pan, build shelters from different materials, and test them by slowing pouring water over the shelter. Which material protected the toy the best? Why?
