Annual Report
Red Deer Hospice is a serene home where individuals facing the end-of-life journey can receive individualized care and compassion so they can die with dignity and respect. Care is also taken to ensure families and loved ones are supported during this difficult time.
Our nurses, support staff, and volunteers provide comfort for the resident and support for the family. Red Deer Hospice nurses are specialized in Hospice Palliative Care Nursing and are on site 24/7. Bereavement support is also available on site. Our staff works in partnership with the community and all support organizations to provide the best individualized, personal care.
Residents are not charged a fee to stay at Red Deer Hospice. A portion of our operating costs are covered by Alberta Health Services, however, as a not-for-profit society, we depend on donations and fundraising efforts in order to meet our annual operational budget.
The ongoing support from our sponsors, donors, volunteers and community for all of our functions such as the No Show Gala raffle, Hospice Hondbag Lunch, expansion fundraising efforts and the Run/Hike for Hospice has been significant. It is because of this involvement that we can continue to make Hospice such a special place.
Throughout the 2018-2019 fiscal year our home has been undergoing a major expansion. Once the expansion is complete, our home will feature an additional six private care rooms for a total of sixteen. Throughout the construction, we continued to provide resident care with minimal disruption.
About Us
Our Mission
To provide physical, social, emotional and spiritual care in a community-based, home-like setting for individuals who are dying and for their loved ones.
Our Vision
To recognize death as a part of life’s journey. Our commitment is to provide compassionate care so people can die in peace, comfort and dignity with support for them and their loved ones.
Our Goal
To enhance end-of-life care for all who are facing this difficult time
This past year has been one of considerable progress. As we get clos-er to having our newly expanded home become operational, it feels like the perfect time to revisit why we embarked on this expansion journey and the benefits our community can expect as a result. The demand for palliative care and respite care in Central Alberta is continually on the rise. Our expanded home will allow us to care for sixteen residents at one time, rather than our current ten. The addi-tional space will allow us to help families who may need to use our services for short term respite care as well as end of life care. Respite care and day programming will be provided for those with a life limit-ing diagnosis who are still able to function at home, but the caregiv-ers requires a break from their role.
The expanded house will provide additional gathering areas where families can either find private space or larger areas for gatherings. Additional storage space has also been added. This will create a proper space to house medical equipment while still keeping it readily avail-able. This flexibility is instrumental in providing quality care while keeping our house feeling like a home.No matter the changes or construction noise, I am proud to share that we have maintained and will continue to focus on exceptional service to our residents. Any additions or changes are always made with our residents and their families in mind. We are here to serve whomever requires our care, whenever they need us.

A message from our Nurse Manager
It’s been a productive and successful year with our expanded facility on track to open in the Fall of 2019! We are looking forward to being able to provide our community with a total of sixteen resident rooms as well as additional services to benefit our residents, their families and our broader palliative care community. Thank you to all of our donors, sponsors, staff, leadership team, volunteers and community members for your support throughout this challenging year of construction. We are extremely grateful for the generous and continued support we have received from our community. This support allows us to continue the excellent care Hospice provides. As we move into the new year, we are continuing to work towards future growth of services as well as continued quality of care. On behalf of our Board of Directors, we thank you for allowing us the great privilege of providing service to all our palliative clients and their families.
