    A new Jurys Favorite, a kind of

    best-in-show award, will be given

    to one project among the Honor, Merit,

    and Citation award winners. There will

    be one for each program, the AIA|LA

    Design Awards and the NEXT LA Awards.

    All project awards will be announced atthe Awards Party.

    AIA|LA Design AwardsThe AIA|LA Design Awards showcase the best of built worklocated in Los Angeles or by LA-based architects and locatedelsewhere. Entrants must be members of any chapter ofthe American Institute of Architects. Award winners will beannounced and celebrated at the AIA|LA Awards Partyin October.

    PROJECT ELIGIBILITY1. All entries must represent built projects that have been

    designed by either a Los Angeles-based practice or by otherarchitects and/or located within the area represented by the

    AIA Los Angeles Chapter.2. Only Architect, Associate, or Student members, in good

    standing, of any chapter of the American Institute ofArchitects may submit entries.

    3. All entries must clearly identify the category in which thespecic project should be grouped.

    4. Only projects completed after January 1, 2007, are eligible.5. Projects that have been awarded previously in the NEXT LA

    Awards are eligible for submission in any of the AIA|LA DesignAward categories. Entries that have been awarded previouslywith an AIA|LA Design Award are not eligible for the AIA|LADesign Awards.

    6. Projects by any 2010 2010 AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Awards

    jury member (or that jury members rm, regardless oflocation) are not eligible.

    JURYThe AIA|LA Design Awards jury will comprise three notedarchitecture professionals representing different stages ofpracticeexperienced, mid-career, and emerging.

    NEXT LA AWARDSThe NEXT LA Awards showcase the future of Los Angelesarchitecture by awarding projects that are not yet built in LosAngeles or by LA-based architects and to be built elsewhere.Entrants must be members of any chapter of the AmericanInstitute of Architects.     4. All entries must be unbuilt, but have been commissionedby a client (except for Competitions and Visionary Design).Projects and competitions must originate no earlier thanJanuary 1, 2007.

    4. Projects must be less than 75% complete at time of judging to

    be eligible; jury maintains the right to disqualify projects thatare more than 75% complete at time of judging.

    5. Projects that have been awarded previously in the NEXT LAAwards are not eligible for submission in any of the otherNEXT LA Awards categories.

    6. Projects by any 2010 2010 AIA|LA Design or NEXT LA Awardsjury member (or that jury members rm, regardless oflocation) are not eligible.

    JURYThe NEXT LA Awards jury will comprise noted professionals,including an architect and two afliated professionals, such as acurator, editor, educator, or environmental designer.

    CULTURAL AffAIRS COmmISSION

    DESIGN AWARDSTo recognize excellence in City design projects, AIA|LA iscoordinating with the City of Los Angeles Cultural AffairsCommission (CAC) to facilitate entry to CAC/Built Awards andCAC/Unbuilt Awards. Entrants to AIA|LAs awards may submit aduplicate digital entry to the CAC Awards. There is no additionalcost to enter. Award winners will be announced and celebratedat the AIA|LA Awards Party in October.

    Questions regarding the CAC Awards Program should be directedto the Department of Cultural Affairs ofce at 213.202.5501.

    ENTRY CATEGORIESINSTITUTIONAL/CIVICCITYSCAPESADAPTIVE RE-USE/RENOVATION/HISTORIC PRESERVATIONINTERIOR ARCHITECTUREINSTALLATIONS

    PROJECT ELIGIBILITY1. All entries must represent projects that are unbuilt by the City

    of Los Angeles or in collaboration with a City of Los Angelesagency.

    2. Projects must be designed by a City architect or privatearchitecture rm (from LA or outside of LA) doing a projectfor the City of Los Angeles.

    3. All entries must clearly identify the category in which thespecic project should be grouped.

    4. Projects that demonstrate the integration of public art andarchitecture are strongly encouraged.

    5. For CAC/Built Awards submissions, projects completed afterJanuary 1, 2007, are eligible.

    6. For CAC/Unbuilt Awards submissions, projects approved by theCultural Affairs Commission after January 1, 2007, and are lessthan 75% complete at time of judging, are eligible.

    7. Projects do not have to be entered into the AIA|LA Design/NEXT LA Awards to be eligible, but must adhere to the AIA|LA

    Design/NEXT LA Awards format, rules, and schedule.8. Projects that have previously won an AIA|LA Design/NEXT LAAward, and meet other CAC eligibility requirements, may beentered into CAC Design Awards only.

    9. Projects receiving a CAC Award do not automatically receivean AIA|LA Design/NEXT LA Award. Likewise, CAC-eligibleprojects receiving an AIA|LA Design/NEXT LA Award do notautomatically receive a CAC Award, although it is possible towin both a CAC Award and an AIA|LA Design/NEXT LA Awardfor the same entry.

    SUBmISSION REQUIREmENTSIndividuals or rms may submit any number of projects to the

    AIA|LA Design Awards and NEXT LA Awards. An entry will be eligibleeven though the submitting architect is not the sole author,providing the submitting architect credits all other participantssubstantially contributing to the design of the project.

    AIA|LA uses a paperless, digital submission entry. DetailedSubmittal Requirements, including category denitions,specications for entry materials, and template, will be sentto all entrants upon registering. All entries must include: A PDF le (maximum 4MB le size) derived from a template

    provided by AIA|LA that includes up to 10 slides depicting theproject in at least 4 photographs, 2 drawings, and 1 text slide.

    Identication Forms in Word format.

    Up to 6 high-res digital project images, a selection of which maybe used during the Awards Ceremony and/or for publication andpublicity.

    One 20x20 display board for exhibition purposes only, dueat a later date. Specications will be included in the DetailedSubmittal Requirements.

    AfLA DESIGN/GREEN AWARDSAFLA (Architectural Foundation of Los Angeles), the non-protfoundation of AIA|LA, hosts the Design Green Awards: acompetition to honor projects that integrate exceptional design

    with new high-performance standards for sustainability, LEEDcertied for their effectiveness, while redening architecture.This years international panel of jurors will convene inCopenhagen. For submittal information, go to http://aa.us/designgreen.html. Award winners will be announced andcelebrated at both the AIA|LA Awards Party and USGBC/LAGreen Gala event in October.

    JUDGINGSeparate juries will be convened for each award programALA|LADesign Awards, NEXT LA Awards, CAC Design Awards, AFLADesign/Green Awards. Decisions by juries are nal and binding.

    EXHIBITION + PUBLIC fORUm All AIA|LA Design Awards and NEXT LA Awards entries will be

    on display on the AIA|LA Website. All entrants to AIA|LA Design Awards, NEXT LA Awards, CAC

    Awards, and AFLA Design/Green Awards have the opportunityto supply a 20x20 display board for public exhibition. Dates,locations, and specications to be announced. (Boards are notused for judging.)

    A roundtable panel with select jury members will occur onSeptember 10, 2010, concurrent with the opening of the Design

    Awards Exhibition. Time and location to be announced.

    AWARDS PARTYAwards Party will be held October 27, 2010, at the Los Angeles

    County Museum of Arts Bing Theater, with a reception and speciviewing of the new Resnick Pavilion by Renzo Piano. Winners ofthe awards will be announced at the Awards Party, where they wbe given their award certicates.

    In addition to honoring the winners of the AIA|LA Design Awards,NEXT LA Awards, Jurys Favorite, CAC Awards, and AFLA Design/Green Awards, the 2010 AIA|LA Presidential Award recipients wilalso be recognized. Tickets for the Awards Party will be availablefor purchase through the Chapter ofce. Check www.aialosange-les.org for updates on date and location.

    fEES + DEADLINESA non-refundable registration fee of $185 for the rst entry intoAIA|LA Design Awards or NEXT LA Awards and $155 for eachadditional entry into any of the competitions must accompanythe entry form. There is no fee for CAC Design Awards.
