Rajbhasha Saptah Samaroh

Under the auspices of Diesel Locomotive Works Rajbhasha Department, Hindi Saptah Samaroh-2014 was organised from 09th to 15th September with variety of programmes. The Main function of the week long programme was a seminar on "Rajbhasha - Swaroop, Chunautiyan aur

Sambhavnayen" held on 14th September at Technical Training Centre auditorium. Speaking on this occasion, the main speaker Prof. Awadhesh Narayan Mishra of Banaras Hindu University said that the present nature of Hindi is the mixture of various languages, because many common words of other Indian regional languages are used in Hindi. Country’s regional languages are making a major contribution to establish Hindi at global arena. Discussing the development of Hindi he said that

Language, techniques and business make a nation prosperous. Developed nations have progressed on the strength of his language, then why we cannot. He threw light on the contribution of DLW and Indian Railways for the promotion of Hindi and said that using its vast network, Indian Railways has united the nation and played an important role in implementation of Rajbhasha policies.

On this occasion, presiding over the Hindi Diwas Samaroh, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer said that the responsibility to establish Rajbhasha is not of Rajbhasha Department and Hindi scholars only. Any language becomes prosperous through experiments. When the scholars of all the subjects will express their thoughts originally in Hindi and make attempt to promote Rajbhasha. He threw light on the challenges of Rajbhasha and said that availability of Unicode has also made easier the challenges of the use of Hindi. Now, setting up a website in Hindi or sending e-mail in Hindi have become easy. Earlier, Shri Singh also gave away awards to 95 officers and employees for winning the various competitions as well as doing excellent and maximum works in Hindi. On this occasion, he also released the message of Shri Rajiv Vishnoi, General Manager.

Welcoming the guests and speakers Shri Hardai Narayin, Mukhya Rajbhasha Adhikari focused upon the background of ‘Hindi Diwas’. Conducting the whole programme Dr. Sanjay Kumar Singh, Varistha Rajbhasha Adhikari also read the message of Union Home Minister, Govt. of India and the vote of thanks proposed by Shri S.B.Pandey, Sr. Translator.

The weeklong programme included a meeting of DLW Rajbhasha Karyanvayan Samiti, and Quiz Competition

also. The programme concluded with a variety of colourful cultural programme on 15 th September at

Auditorium (Cinema Hall). On this occasion, DLW artists recited the compositions of eminent

poets of Hindi and staged an emotional play “Uzra Hua Mahavidyalay”, that was edited and

directed by Shri T.K.Chatterjee and written by Shri Braj Bhushan.

As in past the god of the craft, art and creation Lord Vishwakarma Puja was held this year too at Diesel Locomotive Works on 17th September. On this holy occasion, the employees were established quite attractive and beautiful idol of the presiding deity Lord Vishwakarma in their workshops and workplaces and worshiping with proper rituals.

On this occasion, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer along with S/Shri, Yogesh Asthana, Chief Electrical Engineer, K.B.Sahay, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Production, Arjun Tabiyar, Chief Personnel Officer, A.K.Sharma, Chief Quality Assurance Manager, Hradai Narain, Financial Advisor & Chief Accounts Officer/TOT, N.P.Sinha, Chief Material Manager/Loco, Rajiv Kumar Saxena, Chief Material Manager/Headquarter, S.K.Sager, Chief Project Manager/Modernisation, Dr. S.S.Negi, Chief Medical Officer, S.K.Katiyar, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Plant, Manish Kumar Gupta, Dy. Genral Manager & Chief Public Relations Officer along with other officers, their family members and friends were went inside the various places of the workshops and other workplaces in the township, where they welcomed with enthusiasm by staffs. They did worship with proper rituals of Lord Vishwakarma and actively participated in Pujanotsav and received Prasad.

On this occasion, a large fair was visible at DLW premises and workshop, as well as cultural programmes, Ghazals, Bhajans, etc. were organised in Stores/Depot. On this occasion, where DLW personnel, their families and friends enjoyed the fair, there, worshiped and seen the pleasing and breathtaking procession of Lord Vishwakarma with interesting decorated in various workshops and township.

DLW built 7051st Locomotive flagged off

Shri Alok Johri, Member Mechanical, Railway Board flagged off 7051st Diesel locomotive at Diesel Locomotive Works, Varanasi on 26th September, 2014. Before flagging-off the locomotive he

inspected its driver cab along with Shri Rajeev Vishnoi, General Manager, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Manager and other officers. Thereafter, he flagged-off the flower bedecked locomotive decorated in resplendent colour scheme with performed rituals along with Shri Vishnoi, General Manager, Shri Singh, Chief Mechanical Manager and other officers.

Expressing his views Hon’ble Member Mechanical said that DLW not only increasing the production of locomotives, but also developing new technologies with the up-rating of horse power of locomotives. Design, development, production and thereafter dispatch of locomotives to the Railways and NRCs within stipulated time period is the hallmark of DLW. On this occasion, Hon’ble Member declared a cash award of ` 1 lakh for DLW employees.

Speaking on the occasion, Shri Rajiv Vishnoi, General Manager hailed the team work and work culture of DLW officers, supervisors & employees and lauded the achievements of DLW. On this occasion, welcoming the guests Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer focused upon the products and activities of DLW. Shri K.B.Sahay, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Production proposed the vote of thanks, while Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the whole programme efficiently.

Earlier, Hon’ble Member Mechanical inspected the New Block Shop and there available facilities and manufacturing process of Blocks. During the visit of New Block Shop, Chief Project Manager/Modernisation Shri S.K.Sagar briefed Shri Johri and Shri Vishnoi about the newly installed machines. On this occasion, Shri Johri inaugurated the newly installed CNC Knob Milling Machine there. With the installation of this new machine production of locomotive blocks will increase as well as production process will take less time. He also planted sapling in New Block Shop along with GM Shri Vishnoi and other principal officers. Earlier on reaching the New Block Shop Shri Johri was given a grand guard of honour by RPF personnel.

Shri Johri also held a meeting with Shri Rajiv Vishnoi, General Manager, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer and other HODs at Conference Hall and discussed on various technical issues related to the production. He also reviewed the progress of various projects and gave necessary instructions to the concerned authorities.

Letter, he also met Shri Amar Singh, Joint Secy., Staff Council & members as well as the representatives of other employees’ associations and office bearers of SC/ST/OBC Association and discussing employees’ problems and demands with them, he received memorandum from them.

Durga Pooja and Vijaya Dashami festival

Vijaya Dashami festival was celebrated in DLW Township on 03rd October at DLW Stadium, which was attended by huge crowd. The programme started on that day with the offering of Poojan & Arti to Bhagavan Shri Ram, Sita & Laxman by Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer accompanied by Shri Arjun Tabiyar, Chief Personnel Officer and office bearers of Vijaya Dashami Samiti.

On this occasion depicting the various characters of Ramleela, children of DLW family enacted the excerpts from the epic Ramayan as well as beautiful & attractive fireworks and burning of effigies

of Ravan, Kumbhakaran & Meghnad were also displayed. On this occasion officers, employees, their families, friends as

well as Shri Pranjal Yadav, District Magistrate and other civil authorities of Varanasi including distinguished persons of the city were present in a large number.

Durga Pooja was also celebrated in Community Hall and Shiva Kali Mandir at DLW Township with traditional gaiety and religious fervour. On this occasion, Maa Durga idols were installed in tastefully decorated Pandals. During the Navaratri, Maha-Sasthi, Maha-Saptami, Maha-Astami and Maha-Navami puja and other rituals were performed with great enthusiasm. The festival concluded with the submerging of Maa Durga idols in River Ganga. On this occasion different colourful cultural programmes were also organised at Community Hall and Shiva Kali Mandir. During the Vijaya Dashami and Durga Pooja festival DLW R.P.F., Civil Defence, St. Johan's Ambulance Brigade, Scouts & Guides and other social service organisations also extended their co-operation in seating arrangement, tracing out and handing over of the missing children to their parents and controlthe gathering.

Special Cleanliness Drive on Gandhi Jayanti at DLW

Under the “Special Cleanliness Drive” at Diesel Locomotive Works, all the officers, employees and their family members made “Shramdan” in the premises on 02nd October on Gandhi Jayanti.

Leading the drive Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri Ashok Kumar Singh made “Shramdan” at Western Township-III, Jalali Patti along with the co-incharge of Cleanliness Drive of above area Shri P.Ananth, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Material, Shri Manish Kumar Gupta, Deputy General Manager and other officers and employees.

For this drive, the DLW premises was divided into 10 zones. Shri Yogesh Asthana, Chief Electrical Engineer, Shri Atul Mohan, Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer, Shri Pradeep Kumar, Controller of Stores, Shri Arjun Tabiyar, Chief Personnel Offiecr, Shri A.K.Sharma, Chief Quality Assurance Manager, Shri Hardai Narain, Financial Advisor and Chief Accounts Officer/TOT, Shri K.B. Sahay, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Production, Shri S.K. Sager, Chief Project Manager/Modernisation, Shri R.K. Saxena, Chief Material Manager/Headquarter, Shri N.P.Sinha, Chief Material Manager/Loco, Shri Sajay Katiyar, Chief Mechanical Engineer/Plant, Shri Naresh Kumar, Chief Marketing Manager, Shri V.R.Mishra, Chief Material Manager/Engine, Shri R.B.Yadav, Chief Engineer, Shri Anil Kumar Singh, Chief Design Engineer Dr. S.S.Negi, Chief Medical Officer participated in this Cleanliness Drive as in-charge and co-in-charge along with other officers, supervisors and employees in their respective zones. The volunteers of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Sportsmen and Students of DLW based schools also gave laudable contribution to make the drive a grand successes.

Before starting the Cleanliness Drive, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer administered the oath of awareness towards the cleanliness to the officers and employees. In the same manner all Heads of Departments also administered the oath to the employees to be aware of cleanliness in their respective areas. On this occasion, “Shramdan” was also made in RPF Barrack led by Shri Sunil K. Singh, Deputy Inspector

General / RPF, Railway Board, New Delhi along with Shri S.C.Chaudhari, Sr. Security Commissioner.

55th All India Railway Aquatic Championship

Under the auspices of DLW Sports Association, 55th All India Railway Aquatic Championship was organised from 10th to 13rd October at DLW Swimming Pool. It was inaugurated by Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer by introducing with the participating swimmers and announcing the opening of the championship. The championship concluded on 13rd

October with the announcing of closure of tournament by Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer.

On this occasion, giving his best wishes to the players Chief Mechanical Engineer Shri Singh said that some swimmers of Railways has not only proud of Indian Railways, but also exalted the name of country by his talent. Certainly, they will become inspirational for his fellow players. Earlier, welcoming the guests Shri Anil Kumar Sharma, Chief Quality Assurance Manager focused upon the detailed information of swimming competition.

12 teams from different Railways participated in this Aquatic championship and made nine new meet records in different events. In water polo match Southern Railway, Eastern Railway and Western Railway got first, second and third place respectively. In the overall championship (diving section) Western Railway stood first and Eastern Railway got third place, while host DLW secured second place. In this championship, where South Western Railway bagged overall championship with 155 point, there Western Railway and Eastern Railway got second and third place with 109 and 105 points respectively.

Vigilance Awareness Week

Vigilance Awareness Week was observed at Diesel Locomotive Works from 27th October to 01st November. During the weeklong programme pledge ceremony, group discussion and a seminar on Vigilance Awareness were organised at DLW. Besides essay competition and other programmes were also organised to mobilise the people against the corruption.

The main function of the week, a seminar on "Bhrashtachar se Sangharsh – Praudyogiki ki Samarthak Bhumika" was organised on 01st November at Technical Training Center Auditorium. Presiding over the seminar, Shri Yogesh Asthana, Chief Electrical Officer said that transparency is not only needed in public life, but also impontaint in personal life. Highlighting the flaws of the tender process, he said that as much if we share information with website, corruption would equally discouraged. We should work with the spirit of service and improve our work culture. On this occasion Shri Asthana also released "Vigilance Bulletin" published by Vigilance Department and awarded to the winners of essay competition held during the Vigilance Awareness Week.

On this occasion, expressing his view Shri Atul Mohan, FA&CAO said that discipline, transparency and following of rules & regulations is needed in each and every sectors of our lives. He stressed

clearly on widely dissemination of the public purchases policy, so that the tendereres be able to know reasons of acceptance and rejection of their tenders. Speaking on the occasion, Shri Pradeep Kumar, Controller Of Stors said that Information Technology, E-Auction, improvement in exhamination and recruitment process and video conferencing are playing an important role in eradication of corruption. He also stressed the need of maintaining transparency in checking of corruption and told about some new techniques like e-procurement and e-tendering adopted in Stores Department. On this occation, Shri Arjun Tabiyar, Chief Personnel Officer said that the Corruption is prevailing our society since olden period and has taken a horrible shape today. He further added to eliminate the coruption we should bring improvement in our working methods and maintain transparency.

On this occasion, Shri Bimal Rautji, Chief Material Manager pointed out on the flaws in the ways of eleminating the corruption and suggested for the simplification of rules. Shri Hradai Narain, FA&CAO/TOT said that the delay in decision taking is also one of the main reasons of corruption. Highlighting the activities of Vigilance Departments, Shri Naresh Kumar, Chief Vigilance Officer said that whether knowingly or unknowingly done mistake is a mistake. In this regard we have to change our attitude.

Earlier, the programme started with staging of a short play "Soch Ko Badalna Hai" under the direction of Shri T.K.Chatterjee. In this play DLW artists displayed various types of corruption. Pleasing with the short play presentation, Chief Electrical Engineer declared a cash award of ` 10000/- for artists. The vote of thanks was proposed by Shri Atul Kanaujia, Dy. Chief Vigilance Officer and Shri Naveen Mishra, Senior Section Officer conducted the whole programme efficiently.

To discuss the requirement of Zonal Railways for imported and indigenous vital spares for the year 2016-2017, Annual Bulk Indent Meeting for High Horse Power (HHP) locomotives was organised at DLW on 22nd & 23rd August at DLW Hall of Fame. Addressing the delegates of Railway Board, Zonal Railways and RDSO, Shri Rakesh Vatash, Additional Member/Mechanical Engineering, Railway Board expressing satisfaction over the smooth supply of the equipments of HHP locomotives by DLW to Zonal

Railways, he emphasised to increase the reliability and availability of locomotives. He expressed concern over the shortage of sources of supply of equipments for high horse power locomotives and also focused upon the common faults and problems occurring in the spare parts of locomotives and said that DLW is capable to accept all types of challenges for development of new types of locomotives. Lauding the efforts being made to develop the new designs of locomotives and increasing the production

by DLW, he stressed upon the development of new sources for undisrupted supply of spares.Addressing the delegates of the meeting Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer

said that viewing the continuous increase in production of high horse power locomotives in DLW, Zonal Railways should seek new sources for the supply of spares of these locomotives on their own level. He also assured them that DLW will extend its full support to Zonal Railways in sorting out this problem by the feedback provided by them to it regarding the performance of HHP locos.

Addressing the meeting, Shri Pradeep Kumar, Controller of Stores threw light on the efforts being made by the Stores Department to maintain the supply chain of spares for the HHP locomotives to the Zonal Railways according to their demand and assured them of improving the supply of it.

On this occasion, Shri Vivek Kumar, Executive Director, Mechanical Engineering/Traction, Railway Board said that with the construction of 09 nos. 5500HP WDG5 locomotives, DLW will start the regular production of this locomotive. In near future development and construction of 6000 HP locomotives will be also initiated in DLW. He focused upon the common deficiencies found in spares of HHP locomotives and emphasised on improving its quality and supply.

In the meeting, HODs of DLW, Representatives of Zonal Railways also expressed their views and also submitted their demand of spares for the year 2016-17. Earlier, welcoming the officers and representatives of Zonal Railways Shri P.Ananth, CME/M apprised of them about the improvements being made in the supply of spares of high horse power locomotives and two day schedule/minutes of the meeting. In this meeting, the suppliers of spare parts of high horse power locomotives also apprised about the development of new components to the delegates through presentation.

During the two-day meeting, the demand and supply of spare parts, warranty claims and various technical issues related to high horse power locomotives were discussed with Zonal Railways.

Independence Day Celebration at DLW

68th Independence Day of the country was celebrated at DLW basketball ground with traditional gaiety and patriotic fervour on 15th August 2014. Amidst large gathering of staff, officers and their families, Chief Guest Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer unfurled the

National Flag. Thereafter, he took salute and inspected the parade of the contingents of RPF, St. John's Ambulance Brigade, Civil Defence, District Scout & Guides and Inter College Scout & Guides. While paying tribute to the Freedom Fighters and martyrs, Shri

Singh said that the freedom fighters are the great legends of the Country. Our great leaders and patriots like Subhash

Chandra Bose, Chandrashekhar Azad, Bhagat Singh, Khudiram Bose, Jawaharlal Nehru, Dr. Bhimrao Ambedkar, Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel, Khan Abdul Ghaffar Khan, Maulana Abul Kalam Azad and Dada Bhai Naoroji’s names are on the tongue of every child of our country, who made great sacrifices and even laid down their lives to get Country free. Even after the independence, they also guided the Country towards the right direction and laid the foundation of today’s sovereign and strong India.

Shri Singh further added that Indian Railways is playing a pivotal role in strengthening the unity and integrity of the country. Indian Railways from north to south and from east to west, even in remote areas get the people of entire country felt of proximity and tied them with each other. Highlighting the achievements of DLW, Shri Singh said

that DLW achieved the target of the production of 300 locomotives in 2013-14 set by Railway Board before 6 days of the ending of financial year and dedicated the 300th loco of the year to the Nation on 25th March, 2014 including 274 High Horse Power Locomotives also.Highlighting the achievements of DLW in marketing field Shri Singh said that in the previous financial year, DLW exported 03

locomotives of 2300 HP to Sri Lanka through IRCON and 16 locomotives of 3100 HP to Bangladesh through RITES as well as spare parts and earned a revenue of ` 321.41 crores, which is a great achievement for DLW. For the current year also, DLW has secured orders for 12 locomotives worth ` 152.98 crores from NRCs. Shri Singh also focused upon the achievements of other departments of DLW.

On this occasion chief guest Shri Singh awarded the meritorious students of DLW based schools. To mark the occasion, an attractive colourful cultural programme was also presented by the students of DLW based schools as well as Bharat Scouts & Guides and “Chetna” attired in colourful dresses. The programme included the Dog Show by RPF Dog Squad, patriotic song, action songs and folk dances etc., which were highly admired by the viewers. The programme concluded with the Vote of thanks proposed by Shri Pradeep Mishra, PRO and Shri Amlesh Srivastava who conducted the whole programme efficiently. On this occasion, Chief Guest Shri Singh, Smt. Anuradha Singh, Vice-Chairperson, DLW Women's Welfare Organisation along with the members of DLW Women's Welfare Organisation as well as principal officers and Staff Council

members inspected the Training Centre of District Bharat Scouts & Guides and appreciated the works done by the members as rope bridge, watch tower and tents erected as camp and handmade items. The celebration wound up with the distribution fruit packets to indoor patients at DLW Central Hospital.

Bal Sanskritik Sandhya at DLW

Under the auspices of DLW Cultural Association a colourful cultural programme "Bal Sanskritik Sandhya" was organised on 27th June at Auditorium (Cinema Hall). In this programme, those trainees presented their skills and performance, who received training in "summer presentation-oriented workshop" at DLW conducted by DLW Music College. In the manner, some of the children performed and showed how seriously they received training. By showing their talents, they won the hearts of the viewers.

The first Phase of programme started with the recital of 'Ganpati Vandana'. Thereafter the children presented a heart throbbing programme of classical music as ‘Saraswati Vandana’, vocal, dance and instrumental enveloped in severed Ragas & Talls as well as light music. They showed their deep learning and command over different themes of music and kept the audience spellbound during the whole programme. Their performance was the evident of

their skill and talent. The whole programme was highly admired by the audience.

The "Sanskritik Sandhya" was wound up by the staging of a play 'Haathi Raja-Haathi Rani' in the collaboration with “Sansthan”, written by Shri Shyam Mohan Asthana and directed by Shri Amlesh Srivastava. In this play the children displayed their acting talents. It is worthy note that during the workshop Dr. Bhuvaneshwar Prashad Tiwari, Dr. J.P.Singh “Surmani”, Puja Chauchari, Vashundhara Sharma, Amlesh Srivastava and Ekhlak Husain Khan trained to all the trainees and directed in the "Sanskritik Sandhya".

Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager inaugurated a newly DLW manufactured Micro-gauge machine on 02nd July at Light Machine Shop at Diesel Locomotive Works. This machine will

be used to check the profile of Camshaft lobs and Flange Dowel angle apart from its orientation, to ensure the required level of precision. It is mentionable here that this machine is entirely manufactured by DLW employees and its accuracy is recorded at 0.05 degree. Only ` six lakh were spent on its manufacturing for LM Guide Wage, Motor and Bearings etc., while the market price of the same machine is around ` 1.5 crore. On this occasion,

expressing happiness over the manufacturing of this machine Shri Khare declared a cash award of ` fifty thousands for the officers and employees who were involved in the manufacturing of the same.

Besides, on this occasion GM also inaugurated the Smriti Stambh at the main gate of Light Machine Shop, dedicated to the technicians of Tool Room. Lauding the architecture, theme & style of Smriti Stambh, Shri Khare also declared the cash award of ` 30,000/- to the technicians of Tool Room for their workmanship & work culture.

It is noteworthy that, this Smriti Stambh is constructed to recognise the contribution of the

technicians of Tool Room in production. The Smriti Stambh is constructed with rejected granite stones of Micro-gauge machine used beautifully in the monument. Besides, rejected copper plates from Chromium Plating Shop are fixed at the top and the bottom of the Stambh with the exquisite carving/painting by the Tool Room staff. The foundation and whole construction work of Smriti Stambh is done by Civil Engineering Department. The whole work of the Micro-gauge Machine and Smriti

Stambh was done under the supervision of Shri Anupam Chaudhary, Dy.CME/Tooling. On this occasion S/Shri A.K.Singh, CME, Yogesh Asthana, CEE, K.B.Sahay, CME/Prod., R.B. Yadav, CE, Sanjay Katiyar, CME/Plant , Manish Kumar Gupta, DGM and S.C.Chaudhary, Sr.Sec.Com. as well as other officers and employees were present in a large number.

Under the joint auspices of Diesel Locomotive Works Central Hospital and DLW Mazdoor Sangh a blood donation camp by Dattatray Dattopant Thengadi Rakta Sahayata Samooh Kosh held on 28 th

June at Central Hospital. Expressing happiness on organised the camp chief guest Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager said that the blood donation is invaluable for anyone who would like to donate life. Wishing to successes of the programme Shri Khare appreciated the work of Central Hospital, DLW Mazdoor Sangh and Indian Medical Association. Shri Khare also appeals to people for awareness of blood donation and organising as such type regular camps.

On this occasion highlighting the significance of voluntary blood donation camp Dr. Gautam Sen of Indian Medical Association said that by the lack of awareness, people have understand the importance of blood donation on the need arise the blood.

Earlier, welcoming the guests Dr. S.S.Negi, Chief Medical Officer stating the noble work of blood donation to the save of life for needy and grateful to DLW Mazdoor Sangh and expressed the myths related to blood donation. A high-level delegation of South Africa comprising of Mr. Stefenus Botes, Minister Counselor, Economic Section, Mr. Shri Luthando Maranjana, 3rd Secretary Political and Mr. Ravi Kant, Economic

Advisor visited Diesel Locomotive Works under the leadership of Mr. Malose Mogale, Minister Plenipotentiary of the South African High Commission in New Delhi on 30th May. On this occasion delegation members visited DLW workshop along with Shri S.K.Sagar, Chief Marketing Manager and other officers and witnessing facilities in various shops they acquainted themselves with the manufacturing process. They also discussed various technical and

commercial aspects with the officers related to future plans and production targets of DLW.

Thereafter, delegation members held a meeting with Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager, Shri Ashok Kumar Singh, Chief Mechanical Engineer and other HODs and discussed about the feasibilities of mutual co-operation in Railway field.

It is mentionable here that DLW has carved a niche in the global market in the field of manufacturing of diesel locomotives. The visit of this delegation to DLW is a significant step towards the future co-operation in Railway Sector.

59th Railway Week Award Distribution Ceremony was organised on 16th April at DLW Auditorium (Cinema Hall). On this occasion Shri Bhuvanesh Prakash Khare, General Manager gave away awards to 124 meritorious officers, supervisors and employees for their commendable performances in their

respective fields during the year 2013-14. Shri Khare also gave away group awards and running trophy to 08 sections/workshops of Stores and Mechanical Departments. In which the Best Performance award went to Loco Assembly Shop, besides Best Safety

Performance award to Central Transport Shop, Best House Keeping award to Light Machine Shop and Best Service Shop to Tooling Division of Mechanical Department. While UP-1 bagged the Best Purchases Section award, Second Best Purchases Section award went to UP-7, as well as Ward No.-39 (Heavy Lift Shed) and Ward No.-41 (TOT) secured the first and second Best Ward awards respectively. In this addition, the employees of Recruitment Section and its associate section of Personnel Department were given the Special Prize for their overall performance during the year.

Speaking on this occasion Shri Khare felicitated employees, supervisors and officers, who won the awards for their achievements in various spheres. Shri Khare said that keeping up its glorious traditions of the past, DLW achieved the target of the production of 300 locomotives in 2013-14 set by Railway Board before 6 days of the ending of financial year and dedicated the 300th loco to nation on 25th March, 2014. Besides, this year DLW produced 340 Engines, 20 HHP Power Packs and 115 Fabricated Crank Cases also. By overhauling the 130 super turbo charger and 57 turbo clutch assembly of Zonal Railways, DLW contributed to the smooth operation of trains in Indian Railways.

Highlighting the achievements of DLW in marketing field, Shri Khare said that in the financial year 2013-14, DLW exported 03 locomotives of 2300 HP to Srilanka through IRCON and 16 locomotives of 3100 HP to Bangladesh through RITES, total 33 locomotives and spare parts were supplied to NRCs and earned a revenue of ` 321.41 crores. During the year supply order for 10 locomotives worth ` 115.21 crores has also been received from NRCs. DLW has secured purchase orders for supply of 08 locomotives and spare parts

worth ` 99.05 crores to Non-Railway customers in the current year 2014-15. In addition, purchases orders for 19 locomotives from NRCs are under consideration and offers have been sent to them. For the export of locomotives to International Market, negotiations are underway through RITES and IRCON for the export of approximately 46 locomotives to Srilanka, Mozambique and Malaysia. Shri Khare also focused upon the achievements of other departments of DLW.

Earlier, welcoming the guests, Chief Public Relations Officer Shri Atul Kumar Kanaujia, highlighted the glorious history of Indian Railways and said that Indian Railways had started their spectacular journey on 16th April, 1853 from Mumbai to Thane covering a distance of 34 kilometers. To commemorate this glorious moment, Railway Week Celebration is organised in Indian Railways every year from 10th to 16th April. Railways have also witnessed the every moment and event of our country’s

freedom struggle. Today Indian Railways has completed 160 years of that historical journey and the developmental journey of Railways is still continued without any pause. Congratulating the DLW employees he said that Railways are lifeline of our country and our locos energise this lifeline.

Earlier, the function started with the lighting of lamp by Shri Khare, GM, Shri A.K.Singh, CME and other HODs jointly. Thereafter, mesmerising the viewers, DLW’s artists presented a colourful cultural programme of Kathak Dance and Rajsthani Group Dance. Important among those who were present on this occasion were Shri S.P.Piplani, COS, Shri Atul Mohan, FA&CAO and other HODs, members of DLW Women's Welfare Organisation, officers, staff council members as well as employees, their family members and friends in a large number. The programme concluded with the vote of thanks proposed by Shri Pradeep Mishra, PRO, while Shri Amlesh Srivastava conducted the whole programme efficiently.
