Page 2: Double page spread final copies

Left Page • This is the final copy of the left side of my double page spread.

It features a conventional layout which I have seen in many music magazines both from real life (like mixmag) but also from peers who have been creating double page spreads. It has one large image which shows the artist I'm featuring . The image itself has to be captivating and engaging e.g. Eye contact. This image has depth of field on it which means the artist is blurry but the headphones she is holding are not and appear crisp and sharp. This was the best image from over 300 photos which were taken with the artist posing in different ways and holding a range of different music related items. This is the only copy of the double page spread as the changes were minimal so I didn't save different versions of it. It also features the conventional tag for who took the photo along the side and a quote from the artists interview which either shows of a bit of their personality or provides a bit of background about who they are. Not all magazines feature a title introducing who the artist is on top of the image but it can be seen in “Mixmag’” magazines. A stroke has been applied on the name to make it stand out from background and to make it one of the first thing you see when you open the magazine. (White on her personal name and Black on her stage name.) The quote has also been wrapped around the image to make the most of the space available.

Right Page

• This is the right hand side for the double page spread. It features the majority of the text and is divided into two sections. It features another quote taken from the interview to be used as a heading and different key words from text have had the fonts changed to make them stand out and fit the word they are displaying. (for example the font for Bad Ass is bold and wide which makes it seem dominant.) Although this is text heavy the way the interview has been written features a lot of informal and colloquial language which means that it appeals to younger audiences. This magazine was targeted at 16-24 year olds, so there has to be a balance of informal and formal language so it can appeal too as many people as possible. The layout, similar to the left hand side, was influenced from music magazines such as NME but also from peers who were creating similar pieces. It has questions and answers separated by a small space and the text for the interviewer and interviewee is different so it is clear who is talking. Although it is rather simple accompanied with the other page they look well suited together. The background was cropped out of another image from my contact prints. The watermark was created in Photoshop and is just the letter K with an opacity of 10% so it doesn't over power the main text.
