Brother Knights – as winter is slowly winding down I am thinking of spring time and the rebirth of the flowers and trees. Leaving us is the coldest winter and February we have experienced in a long time. We should also have a rebirth in our council. During the Lenten season we need to be more proactive in the activities of our Church – attend the Stations of the Cross each week, Pray the rosary and doing penance, among other things, to prepare for Easter. Easter is the founding cornerstone of our Religion – The risen Christ. Over the past few months we have had several successful activities: the pasta dinner which was well attended and a huge success. We saw many families enjoying the food and socializing with each other. We also had a pancake breakfast with a few new menu twists which proved to be very well liked. The Euchre parties continue to be enjoyed by many of the Knights and their families and friends. Bible study also continues to be well attended.

The next few months offer many opportunities for everyone to become involved in different activities such as: Working the Blood Drives, Pancake Breakfasts, the Tootsie Roll Drive and Donut Sundays. Our Golfing Brother Knights should dust off their clubs and get ready to support the youth groups Golf outing in early May. As I have said in the past, our council is a success because of the member’s involvement. It only takes a few hours a month – let’s all get involved, it is very rewarding and at the same time, we can have some fun doing it. We also need to grow our council –if you have a friend , brother in law , son or nephew ask them to join – The Knights of Columbus is a great organization and does a lot of charity work in our parish and community.

I would like to extend my best wishes to you and your families for a Happy Easter and wonderful spring season. God Bless, Jerry Sulak Grand Knight

Men’s Retreat The St. Colette Parish Retreat for men at St. Paul of the Cross was held March 13-15 with 17

participants including several Dooley Knights. The retreat started with dinner on Friday evening

and ended Sunday morning with Eucharist. The retreat theme was “Healing Life’s Hurts:

Embracing New Hope. The retreat staff gave all a chance to look at the hurts we carry within

and move beyond to find new life, new hope. All agreed it was a great retreat experience and

very relevant to living well in today’s fast pace world. Our only regret was that more Knights

were not present to share this wonderful experience with us. Plan right now to attend with us

next year on March 11-13, 2016.

You can call Gary Markwardt 734-464-8298 with questions.

Mark your calendars for our last Euchre Party of the Fraternal Year

Our Council will host its last Euchre Party of the fraternal year at 6:45p.m. Friday, April 17, in the Parish Activities Center. As usual, the evening of fun, fellowship and friendly competition is open to all Knights, spouses, family members and friends. Cost is $5 per person -- and 25 cents each time you're euchred -- which is returned in prize money at the end of the evening. If you haven't been to one of our Euchre Parties, you should note that the emphasis is on fun. All players -- no matter their skill level -- are welcome. We generally fill four to six tables. But there is always room for more players, so please plan to attend. Complimentary light refreshments are served. And the evening usually ends by 10 p.m. Following our April 17 game, we will take a break for the summer. The parties will resume in October. Please look for an announcement with the schedule for our next fraternal year in an upcoming Dooley Echo.

Don't be a vegetable when it comes to Parish Blood Drives

You can't squeeze blood out of a turnip, as the old expression goes. Then the obvious solution is to not be a turnip when it comes to St. Colette's quarterly Blood Drives. The Parish's Blood Drives provide a convenient way for us to donate blood to help those in our communities who are in need of blood. They also are opportunities for our Council to support our Parish by volunteering to help in one of several different ways. Volunteers are needed after Masses on the weekends preceding a Blood Drive to help sign up parishioners to appointments. Volunteers also are needed on the day of a Blood Drive to greet donors, sign them in, serve refreshments, etc. St. Colette's next Blood Drive will be Wednesday, June 10. If you are interested in volunteering to help sign up parishioners in advance or work on the day of the Blood Drive, please contact Chuck Pickett at (248) 477-2060. And even if you can't volunteer, mark your calendars now to make yourself available to donate blood on June 10. Our Council would like to thank Brother Knight Adrian Barkan, who had been coordinating the Blood Drives for St. Colette for the past few years, but recently had to give up this responsibility. Thank you, Adrian, for all your effort in making the Blood Drives a success.

Think You Are Too Old for Coverage? Maybe Not

You are never too young or too old to consider purchasing life insurance. If you have a financial need for coverage, or will in the future, a permanent

life insurance policy can be just the thing you need.

When you are young and presumably healthy, coverage will be very inexpensive when compared to purchasing the same policies when you are older.

If you’ve put off purchasing coverage, or you realize that you may need additional insurance, the Order may still be able to help you, even if other companies cannot. In fact, recently, the issue age of our permanent life insurance products was extended to age 80. Naturally, your health, and whether

or not you smoke, will be taken into consideration, so underwriting standards for risk and age apply. But, the extension is a great blessing for me – and

it could be for you too. Now I can help members that I couldn’t help before. Are you or one of your brother knights one of those members?

Whether you’re 18 or 80, the Knights of Columbus has products that will work for you and your family. I look forward to discussing coverage with you.
