Welcome to the WESTCHA$E Incentive Scheme WESTCHA$E has the following aims:

to provide an on-going incentive for the breeding and purchase of City Class greyhounds with a view to ensuring the on-going strength and competitiveness of City Class racing in Western Australia.

to provide an incentive to local breeders and thereby foster the development of a significant, sustainable and responsible Western Australian greyhound breeding industry. How does WESTCHA$E work?

All WA bred greyhounds are eligible for the WESTCHA$E Incentive Scheme. Greyhounds are classified as WA bred as long as they were whelped in Western Australia, irrespective of the location of the sire and dam or where the actual service took place.

WESTCHA$E bonuses are paid to the owners and breeders of all WA bred greyhounds winning any City Class event for the full duration of their racing career.

WA bred Group Race heat and final winners are eligible for a substantial Group Race Heat or Final WESTCHA$E bonus respectively. The value of the payment is based upon the Group status of the event. There are now nine Group Races on the local racing calendar.

WA bred winners of all Feature Event Finals that are non-Group Race or non-WA Bred Only events are eligible for a Feature Final WESTCHA$E bonus. The value of the payment is based upon the Class of the event. A smaller bonus will apply to Non Feature Finals.

All WA bred winners of City Class Maiden events are eligible for a significant initial reward for winning their first ever race.

All WA bred winners of a Provincial or Country Class Maiden and Novice are eligible for a smaller WESTCHA$E bonus.

Finally the breeders of greyhounds winning select WA Bred Only Feature Events qualify for a substantial WESTCHA$E bonus. The value of the payment is based upon the Class of the event. These features are specifically open to WA bred greyhounds only, with events scheduled across all three race classes and a variety of distances. There are nine of these feature events conducted each year.

The Scheme’s signature event - “The WESTCHA$E” - a City Class, open-grade, age restricted WA Bred Only Feature Event sees bonuses almost equivalent to the total stakes distributed to all runners competing in the final.

WA Bred greyhounds receive a bonus when they have their first ever career start and that start is in WA. Those that received the first start bonus will then be eligible for another bonus if their 10th career start is also in WA.

How is WESTCHA$E funded?WESTCHA$E is fully funded by an industry contribution from Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA). It is currently entirely non-contributory for industry participants, one of very few such schemes in Australia. Anticipated total WESTCHA$E payments for 2019/20 are $1,000,000.

How can I find out more about WESTCHA$E? Just contact RWWA during office hours on (08) 9445 5287 or visit our website www.rwwa.com.au/home/westchase.html.

In races over 520m greyhounds with an inside draw (boxes 1 - 4) have a distinct

advantage over dogs with an outside draw (boxes 5 - 8). Greyhounds starting from an

inside draw win over 60% of races

Look for greyhounds dropping back in grade. Usually these are performers that acquit

themselves well when racing against weaker opposition

Follow the money. TAB favourites win 38% of greyhound races in WA
