polypropylene/HDPE bags or simply woven PP/HDPE bags are considered to be the toughestpackaging bags, widely used to pack materials forgrain, milling and sugar industry. They are nontoxic. Lighter in weight & have more advantagesthan conventional bags. HDPE woven sacks aremuch stronger & can withstand much higherimpact loads because of HDPE strips elongationat break is about 15-25% as compared to 30% ofJute. The major users of HDPE/PP woven sacks are

fertilizer, sugar, cattle feed, cement & other chemicalIndustries. Fabric from HDPE strips is also ideal forthe manufacture of shopping bags, sport hold-all,deck chairs, books binding Cinema screen wall facing& carpet backing etc.

The current demand of woven sacks in NorthEastern Region is estimated to be in the range of 600- 650 MTPM of which only 60 - 70% of the requirementis fulfilled by local industries, Cement, Fertilizer andFlour Mills are major woven sacks consuming sectorsin North-Eastern Region. The only fertilizer complex(urea based) of NER is located in Assam with installedcapacity of 0.5 MMTPA, and has reported a productiongrowth of 12% in the past five years. Apart from ureacomplex, there are 9 bio-fertilizer units in the regionwith a total installed capacity of 1115 MTPA. Thus, itis a good project for entrepreneurs to invest.

Lead Recycling(Smelting & Refining)

Lead acid batteries are rechargeable batteriesmade of lead plates situated in a ‘bath’ of

sulfuric acid within a plastic casing. They are usedin every country in world, and can commonly berecognized as “car batteries”. The batteries canbe charged many times, but after numerous cyclesof recharging, lead plates eventually deteriorate

Fractional Distillation Unit(for Lemongrass, Palmarosa and Citronella)

Fractional distillation is the separation of amixture into its component parts, or fractions,

such as in separating chemical compounds bytheir boiling point by heating them to atemperature at which one or more fractions ofthe compound will vaporize.Production of essential oils has been developing

into a very profitable agro industry during the lastfew years. It has provided diversification in theagricultural sector and is gaining popularity on therural front also. Due to the availability of essentialoils more freely in the market, not only their directuses as attars, floral and aromatic waters, perfumerygrade alcohol and in flavour encapsulation, but alsothe end uses have been widening. Accordingly, theessential oils are today used in soaps, perfumery, cosmetics, agarbathis, disinfectants, deodorants, mosquito repellents, flavouring of foods andpharmaceuticals and a range of allied products.

The essential oil industry in India has witnesseda remarkable growth since the early 70’s. From aproduction of around 50 tpa in 1973, the industryhas registered a ten-fold increase in production and

Linear Alkyl BenzeneLinear alkylbenzene is a family of organic

compounds with the formula C6H5CnH2n+1.Typically, n lies between 10 and 16, althoughgenerally supplied as a tighter cut, such as C12-C15, C12-C13 and C10-C13, for detergent use. TheCnH2n+1 chain is unbranched. They aresometimes called LABs. They are mainly producedas intermediate in the production of surfactants, for use in detergent.Since the 1960s, LABs have emerged as the

dominant precursor of biodegradable detergents.Virtually all linear alkylbenzene (LAB), also knownas detergent alkylate, is converted to linearalkylbenzene sulfate (LAS), which is used almostexclusively as a surfactant in detergents and cleaningproducts. This compound is widely used in a varietyof cleaning products used in household applicationsor in industrial settings because it is versatile andrelatively inexpensive.

The demand of Linear Alkyl Benzene (LAB) isquite captive with almost 95% of the LAB producedbeing consumed in the manufacturing of syntheticdetergents. The remaining 5% is used for otherproducts like liquid detergents, pesticides and paint.

causing the battery to lose its ability to hold storedenergy for any period of time. Primary aim ofsmelting process is to recover Lead metal fromraw materials such as Lead Paste & Lead Metallicseparated from the scrap Batteries and other Leadbearing materials.Refining process involves purifying of Crude Lead

produced in the Smelting Section. When Lead isreduced/recovered from raw materials a large numberof other Metals also get co – reduced and are tappedfrom Furnace along with Lead as impurities.

Major lead consuming countries are China, theUSA, Germany, South Korea and Italy. The demandfor lead in India witnessed a quantum jump in thepost-liberalisation period. With supplies remaininglimited, imports gained momentum. The domesticproducers are gearing to expand capacities by puttingup new smelters. Thus, it is a good project forentrepreneurs to invest.

as a solid–state process for the welding of Steel. Theprocess results in high productivity, can easily beadapted to manufacture pipes with deferentdimensions, and does not require weldingconsumables. Resistance welding involves thegeneration of heat by passing current through theresistance caused by the contact between two ormore metal surfaces. Small pools of molten metal areformed at the weld area as high current (1000–100,000 A) is passed through the metal.

The global export market of the steel pipes isstated to be close to USD 27 bn a year with the US,Western Europe, Australia, and Japan being thebiggest importers. India is one of the major exportingnations along with Indonesia, Malaysia and Thailand. The Indian Seamless Metal Tubes Limited (ISMT)had started with an installed capacity of 15,000 metrictonne per annum. ISMT commenced production withthe installation and commissioning of an Assel millin technical collaboration with Mannesman Demag

Besides LAB accounts for 45% of the cost of syntheticdetergents.

In the Indian LAB market, there are four majorproducers of LAB in India, namely Reliance group,Indian Oil Corporation, Tamil Nadu Petro Productsand Nirma. India is reeling under over supply of LAB,as the domestic demand is comparatively lower thanthe domestic capacity and production. The totaldomestic demand is estimated at around 300000 TPA,while the capacity is close to 500000 TPA. The playersare exporting their surplus to ensure higher capacityutilization. Any entrepreneurs venture into this fieldwill be successful.

Ethanol from Molasses(with Spent Wash Treatment)

Ethanol, also known as ethyl alcohol, drinkingalcohol or grain alcohol, is a flammable,

colorless, mildly toxic chemical compound, and isbest known as the alcohol found in alcoholicbeverages. In common usage, it is often referredto simply as alcohol. Its molecular formula isvariously represented as EtOH, CH3CH2OH andC2H5OH or as its empirical formula C2H6O (whichit shares with dimethyl ether).Ethanol can beprepared by the fermentation of molasses.Molasses is the mother liquor left after the

crystallization of sugarcane juice. It is a darkcoloured viscous liquid. Molasses contains about45-50% fermentable sugar. The demand for ethanol has been continually

increasing on account of the growth of user industriesand use of ethanol as a fuel in the country. However, the production and availability of ethanol has largelylagged behind. India is the fourth largest producer ofethanol in the world after Brazil, the United States ofAmerica (USA) and China, producing approximately2000 million litres of ethanol, mainly by fermentationof sugarcane molasses.

Ethanol is made by fermentation of sugars :enzymes from yeast change simple sugars into ethanoland carbon dioxide. Potable ethanol and more thanhalf of industrial ethanol is made by this process. Asa whole Ethanol from Molasses is one of the projectwhich has good prospect for the entrepreneurs toinvest.

E–Waste Recycling PlantElectronic wastes, “e-waste”, “e-scrap”, or

“Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment”(“WEEE”) is a description of surplus, obsolete, broken or discarded electrical or electronicdevices. Technically, electronic “waste” is thecomponent which is dumped or disposed ordiscarded rather than recycled, including residuefrom reuse and recycling operations. Because loadsof surplus electronics are frequently commingled(good, recyclable, and non-recyclable), severalpublic policy advocates apply the term “e-waste”broadly to all surplus electronics.E-Waste Recycling Technology Used in India:

Decontamination, Dismantling, Pulverization/Hammering, Shredding, Density separation usingwater, E-waste trade value chain, EnvironmentallySound E-waste Treatment Technology, CRTtreatment technology. WEEE has been identified asone of the fastest growing sources of waste in the

India, and is estimated to be increasing by 16-28 percent every five years. Within each sector a complexset of heterogeneous secondary wastes is created.Although treatment requirements are complicated, the sources from any one sector possess manycommon characteristics. However, there exist hugevariations in the nature of electronic wastes betweensectors, and treatment regimes appropriate for onecannot be readily transferred to another. Newentrepreneurs can well venture in this sector.

Now-a-days good sand is not readily available; itis transported from a long distance. Thoseresources are also exhausting very rapidly. Theartificial sand produced by proper machines canbe a better substitute to river sand. The sandmust be of proper gradation. The sand should besharp, clean and course. The grains should be ofdurable material. The grain sizes must be suchthat it should give minimum voids. There is standard specification for Fine aggregates

(Sand). It is divided in four gradations. Generallyknown as Zone I, Zone II, Zone III and Zone IV. Thereis sieve Designation for each grade. There are testingsieves for testing the sand. A set of Sieves with squarehole is available. Followings are the sieves 4.75mm,2.365,1.1830,600 microns,300 microns,150microns pan Specific percentage are designated foreach size for each Zone sand in terms of materialretained or passed ‘from the sieves.

The Indian economy has witnessed considerableprogress in the past few decades. Most of theinfrastructure development sectors moved forward, but not to the required extent of increasing growthrate up to the tune of 8 to 10 per cent. I.M.F.L. Bottling PlantThe history of distilled spirit goes back into

antiquity. Science have unearthed pottery inMesopotamia depicting fermentation scenesdating back to 4200 B.C. a small wooden model ofa brewery from about 2000 B.C. is on display atthe Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York city& Aristotle mentions a wine which produces aspirit. Alcoholic and non-Alcoholic beverages aredirectly consumed in hotels, bars, restaurants, and other places. These are consumed in everyseason, and every day. People become happy andcheerful after drinking the beverages. The wordwine was possibly first applied to the fermentationproduct of the sugars in the juice of grapes; thisis its primary meaning.Indian whiskies account for 98% of domestic

whisky consumption, registering over10% growthannually, which makes it one among the fastestgrowing whisky markets anywhere in the world. TheIndian consumer has, however, shown markedpreference for India-made whisky which accountsfor a dominant share. This is, perhaps, due primarilyto price differentials. Thus, it is a good project forentrepreneurs to invest.

Water Based Cement PrimerAny successful project-from constructing a

building to painting one-starts with a solidfoundation. That’s what paint primer offers: asolid foundation. A good primer will do a numberof things: promote adhesion, enhance the hidingpower of the top coat and in some instances, prevent stains or odours from making their wayback to surface. One of the most importantproperties that paint primers offer is adhesion.Without proper adhesion, the paint will peel andthe surface will have to be prepped and recoatedall over again. Primers are usually pigmented andhave a middle range PVC (pigment volumeconcentration) around 35-45%. This allows themto have spare binder resin (left over from pigmentholding together duties) for adhesion to substratepurposes. The paints industry in India has been growing at

the rate of around 12% a year. The paints market

Tempering & Toughening ofFlat GlassTempered glass is made from normal annealed

glass via a thermal tempering process in whichthe glass is subjected to heat till its softeningpoint and then rapidly cooled. This increases thestrength of the glass. A fully tempered glass is 4to 5 times stronger than an annealed glass ofsimilar thickness. A fully tempered glass isregarded as a safety glass and when it breaks itdisintegrates into small blunt pieces which greatlyreduce the chances of injuries and if there areany then they are superficial in nature.Toughened or tempered glass is a type of safetyglass processed by controlled thermal or chemicaltreatments to increase its strength compared withnormal glass. Tempering creates balancedinternal stresses when broken which cause theglass, to crumble into small granular chunksinstead of splintering into jagged shards. Thegranular chunks are less likely to cause injury.Toughened glass is a type of soda-lime-silica glass

with a sheet thickness 4-12 mm. The sheet has acentral tensile stress of 500-1200 kg/cm2 and a ratioof surface compressive stress to central tensile stressof 2:1 to 4:1. The article is toughened by heatexchange with an oil (or chilled air) in which theseare maintained from 0.01–0.07% liquid. The boilingpoint liquid may be an organic liquid such as carbontetrachloride, methanol, benzene, toluene, trimethylalcohol, ethyl alcohol or Xylene etc.

The industry is growing at around 8% per annum.Consumption per capita of glass in India is only about0.8 kg compared to 3.5 kg in China, 5.2 kg in Thailand,12 kg in Malaysia and 2.5 kg in Indonesia. The totalorganised producers in the glass market have aturnover estimated at over Rs 40 bn, represented bya fairly large number of suppliers. The major playersincluding Gujarat Guardian, Indo Asahi, Triveni Glass,Gujarat Borosil and Float Glass India have beenaccumulating heavy losses. Some units were at the

verge of turning sick. India exports about 13,000tonne of glass per month to the Middle East, Africancountries, Europe and South America. The rapidincrease in the demand for flat glass in the domesticmarket has resulted in a cutback in exports by asmuch as 60% in the last couple of years.

Carbide Tips Insertsand IndexiableTungsten carbide is a compound of Tungsten

and carbon. Tungsten carbide is an inorganicchemical compound containing equal partsof tungsten and carbon atoms. In its most basicform, tungsten carbide is a fine gray powder, butit can be pressed and formed into shapes for usein industrial machinery, cutting tools, abrasives, armor-piercing rounds, other tools andinstruments, and jewellery. Tungsten carbide isapproximately two times stiffer than steel and ismuch denser than steel ortitanium. It iscomparable with corundum (á-Al2O3) or sapphire/ruby in hardness and can only be polished andfinished with abrasives of superior hardness suchas cubic boron nitride and diamond, in the formof powder, wheels, and compounds. The coated carbides and cermets coupled with

high performance chip groove geometries due to theirversatility are suitable for bulk of metal cuttingoperations. The new cutting tool materials ceramicsis gaining popularity due to its avidity for high speedmachining.

Maize Starch and itsby ProductsMaize is one of the cereal grains which

produces throughout India and is placed3rd position in agricultural base production. Maizeis constituted by hull, germ, protein, starch andmoisture. There is dry and wet milling process ofmanufacturing of starch, zein, germ and hulls.Starch is the basic constituent of maize and it isconverted to liquid glucose by adopting series ofdigestion steps on starch. It will be basicallyenzyme and acid digestion system. Pure Starchescan be physically modified into various productsof varied characteristics. Starch can be potentiallyused in large number of preparations. Its majorapplications are in textiles and papermanufacture and in food and pharmaceuticalindustries. Starch is used in the manufacture ofnumber of products such as starch esters, starchphosphates, glucose, dextrose, sorbitol, ethylalcohol etc.India is estimated to generate an annual demand

of nearly 23 million tonne of corn by 2011-12.According to Vision 2025, released on Thursday byIndian Maize Development Association (IMDA), India’sdemand for maize is likely to be 22.73 million tonnesin 2011-12, out of which 19.66 million tonnes wouldbe for non-food uses like poultry and cattle feed. However the demand supply gap for starch was sowide during those days, that almost about 45 newunits came up with a large installed capacity. Manyof these were very small units. The demand of starchand its allied products is increasing day by day invarious segments, so for new entrepreneurs there isa good scope in this field.

PET Bottle RecyclingPolyethylene terephthalate or PET (also known

as PETE) is one of the most common types ofplastic. Most single-serve plastic bottles, includingthose for water, soft drinks and juices, are madewith PET. Designated by the recycling code “1”.Being extremely light, PET bottles help to reducethe emission of contaminants during theirtransport. Since they require less fuel duringtransport, they also help saving energy. PET isglobally recognized as a safe, recyclable packagingmaterial. PET is the main constituent in a varietyof consumer and industrial products includingplastic fibers, videotape, audiotape, film, engineered resin, food containers.PET recycling is the process of reprocessing plastic

that already has been used before and giving it somenew reusable form. For instance, this could meanmelting down soft drink bottles and then casting themas plastic chairs and tables. Typically a plastic is notrecycled into the same type of plastic, and productsmade from recycled plastics are often notrecyclable. Thus, it is a good project for entrepreneursto invest.

Stevia ExtractSweeteners are widely used both by consumers

and by the food and beverage industry.Consumers use them as an ingredient in variousfood items and also as a means for customizingthe sweetness of beverages, fruit, yogurt, and thelike. The food and beverage industry uses suchsweeteners in prepared beverages and other fooditems. Such sweeteners include both caloric andlow-caloric sweeteners. Caloric sweetenersinclude sucrose, fructose, and glucose. Recently,low-calorie (or non-calorie) sweeteners havegained increased popularity.Stevia is a small shrub native to the region of

South America where the borders of Paraguay,Argentina, and Brazil meet. The scientific name forstevia is Stevia rebaudiana Bertoni and it is a memberof the largest family of plants, Asteraceae which isalso called the “sunflower family”. There are 240 close

relatives of stevia and they are all herbs or shrubsoriginating from the tropical and semi-tropical areasof North, Central and South America. The sweetnessfound in the stevia plant is released by steeping itsdried leaves in water, filtering and separating theliquid from the leaves and stems, and further purifyingthe plant extract with either water or food gradealcohol – all conventional plant extraction methods. The result is a naturally sourced, high intensitysweetener that does not impact blood glucose levels. Thus, it is a good project for entrepreneurs to invest.

Blended Alcohol withBottling Line(Molasses Based)

The production of alcohol is based uponfermentation, the natural process of

decomposition of organic materials containingcarbohydrates. It occurs in nature whenever thetwo necessary ingredients, carbohydrate andyeast, are available. Yeast is a vegetativemicroorganism that lives and multiplies in mediacontaining carbohydrates. Distilled spirits are allalcoholic beverages in which the concentrationof ethyl alcohol has been increased above that ofthe original fermented mixture by a method calleddistillation. Drinking alcohol or grain alcohol, is aflammable, colorless, mildly toxic chemicalcompound, and is best known as the alcoholfound in alcoholic beverages. In common usage,it is often referred to simply as alcohol. Blendingis another method of obtaining a balanced productwith precise flavour characteristics. Blendedproducts are composed of one or more highlyflavoured components, a high-proof componentwith a low congener content, a colour adjustmentingredient, and perhaps an additional flavouringmaterial. Distilled spirits react upon exposure tomany substances, extracting materials from thecontainer that tend to destroy the liquor aroma

and flavour. For this reason, glass, beingnonreactive, has been the universal containerfor packaging alcoholic liquors. The Indian market for alcohol — mostly spirits

and beer, as well as wine — totaled $14 billion lastyear, and was one of the fastest-growing alcoholmarkets in the world. Imports account for only a tinyfraction of that, but with India booming while demandelsewhere stalls, no international beverage companycan afford to ignore it. Over the next five years, theIndian market for alcohol is projected to grow at 10%a year — more than in China, the U.S. and Europecombined, according to an estimate by KPMG India.“You’ve got a sizable population, a growing middleclass, a growing economy,” says Nigel Fairbrass, aspokesman for SAB Miller, one of the world’s largestbrewers. “All of that is driving increasing consumptionof alcohol products.”

Depolymerisation of WastePET ScrapPoly (ethylene terephthalate), more commonly

known as PET in the packaging industry, isan indispensable material with immenseapplications owing to its excellent physical andchemical properties. Due to its increasingconsumption and non-biodegradability, PET wastedisposal has created serious environmental andeconomic concerns. Management of PET wastehas become an important social issue. A drivingforce for PET recycling is that PET products havea slow rate of natural decomposition. PET is anon-degradable plastic in normal conditions asthere is no known organism that can consumeits relatively large molecules. Complicated andexpensive procedures need to be operated inorder for PET to degrade biologically. With anabundance of bottles, recycler capacity, andpotential end uses, the key to successful recyclingof PET plastics lies with consumers throughoutthe world. Only they can properly identify post-consumer containers and initiate the collectionprocess. The current demand for PTA in India is

approximately 500 thousand tons. Its mainapplications are textiles, polyethylene terephthalatebottles and film. Future growth is predicted to beextremely high, with demand increasing byapproximately 20% per year.

The textile and garment industry consumes alarge proportion of global PTA output. China is themost important import market for PTA due to its hugepolyester capacity, over half of the world’s total. Itfluctuates in line with the change in PTA futurespricing traded on the commodities exchange, whichin turn takes its cue from crude futures prices, equitymarkets, economy and financial policies and theworld’s economic and political environment. PTASupplies have generally been tight in recent yearsand are expected to remain snug due to fast growingpolyester expansion. Thus, it is a good project forentrepreneurs to invest.

Distribution Transformersand RepairsThe transformer is a device that transfers

electricity or energy from one electric circuitto another without change of frequency andusually, but not always, with a change in voltage. The basic principle of a transformer is Faraday’slaws of Electromagnetic Induction, which statesthat whenever the flux linked with a coil changeson E.M.F is induced.Using distribution transformers, the primary

feeder voltage is reduced to actual utilization voltage(~415 or 460 V) for domestic/industrial use. A greatvariety of transformers fall into this category due tomany different arrangements and connections. Sincevery little supervision is possible, users expect theleast maintenance on these transformers. The costof supplying losses and reactive power is highest forthese transformers. The different type of faults occursin transformers and repairing fault. When any faultoccurs in a transformer heat produced in thetransformer is carried out by oil which in the processexpands & some amount of oil also gets vaporized.

Glass Bottles using BrokenGlass (Recycling of Glass)

Glass is an amorphous (non-crystalline) solidmaterial that exhibits a glass transition,

which is the reversible transition in amorphousmaterials (or in amorphous regions within semicrystalline materials) from a hard and relativelybrittle state into a molten or rubber-like state.Glasses are typically brittle and can be opticallytransparent.Millions of glass bottles are created worldwide

every day. It is a highly mechanized process, andbottles in use today are no longer hand blown asthey were in the past. A glass bottle is 100% recyclablewith many new bottles containing glass which wascreated over 20 years ago. Less energy is used inrecycling a glass bottle than creating the glass fromraw materials, helping the environment.

Worldwide, the alcohol industry is the largest userof glass packaging, which accounts for as much as76% of all packaging of global spirits. According toEuro monitor nearly 200 billion units of glass sold inalcoholic drinks in 2012. Plastic Granules from Plastic WastePlastic is a very common material that is now widely used by

everybody in this world. Plastic is used in many ways as it islight weight and compact. Plastic can be recycled and newproducts can be formed from waste plastic. Though all types ofplastic cannot be recycled a considerable portion can be recycledso that the environment is protected. Plastic recycling involvesthe process of recovering scrap plastics and these waste plasticsare then reprocessed to form new materials that may be differentfrom their original state. Plastics are divided into two distinctgroups: thermoplastics and thermosets. The majority of plasticsare thermoplastic, meaning that once the plastic is formed it canbe heated and reformed repeatedly. The other group, thethermosets, cannot be remelted. Once these plastics are formed, reheating will cause the material to decompose rather thanmelt. In order to be reprocessed, plastics waste has to be groundto a particle size close to that of virgin resin. The size reductionin most cases is accomplished with the use of a granulator. The per capita consumption of polymers in India is around 5.5

kg. The average per capita consumption of polymers is estimated 90kg for the US and 22 kg for China. While the global averageconsumption is estimated at 17 kg per person.

The demand estimates for all polymers including engineeringpolymers was envisaged to increase from 7.5 mn tonne in 2006-07and to 9.5 mn tonne in 2009-10. It was projected at close to 14 mntonnes in 2014-15. India is one of the fastest growing polymer marketin the world, and is expected to become the world’s third largestpolymers market, with a consumption of 12.5 mn tonne, after the USand China, by 2010.
