W E L C O M ESince Dualit was founded in 1945, we have always been committed to improving the design and function of every product we make, to make them more efficient, longer lasting and give greater value for money. This year we have redeveloped our tea and coffee capsules in order to reduce the amount of packaging they require, making them more user friendly and environmentally friendly, without compromising on taste or quality. Our most exciting development has been the launch of compostable capsules for our NX® single origin coffees, where the capsule, capsule lid and the protective bag can all be composted, reducing the amount of waste that goes into landfill.

We have long been aware of our environmental responsibilities and work to minimise waste by encouraging recycling and designing tough, durable products. Some Dualit products can be repaired for an even longer, lifespan; look out for repairable in this brochure.

New products we are launching this year include the Classic Capsule Machine; a stunning new drop-through capsule machine that we designed to complement the Classic Toaster and Classic Kettle. The Café Plus and Café Cino also offer drop-through capsule convenience with slick, touch-button operation. The Café Cino is the first capsule machine we have launched that features a built-in milk frother, so you can make lattes and cappuccinos with ease.

INVENTION IS IN THE GENES

Founder Max Gort-Barten’s first product, a dual-light electric fire, inspired the Dualit name. His flip-sided toaster was patented in 1946.

A CLASS IC I S BORN

In 1952 he designed a new commercial six-slot toaster which bears a significant resemblance to today’s Classic Toaster.

COMMERCIAL SUPERSTAR

By the 1960s the company was in new premises on the Old Kent Road, London. The commercial toaster was already well-established in catering circles.

H A N D B U I L T I N G R E A T B R I T A I N

Dualit designed and engineered a commercial six slice toaster in 1952 that set the foundation for the Classic Toaster as we know it today. Essentially, many of the original features have remained, such as the mechanical timer and the lever. Some have benefitted from technical innovations over the decades, such as the heating elements. Throughout, each toaster has been assembled by hand by one skilled craftsman from start to finish. Some of the assemblers have been working at Dualit for many years –some for more than thirty. Each toaster has plate affixed to the base that tells you who made your toaster. The end castings and front channel are hand sprayed before the toaster is assembled, which all happens at the Dualit factory in West Sussex. The four slice Classic Toaster is built from 168 components and the two slice has 141. There are six stages of assembly:

Stage 2: Toast ejector unit

Stage 3: Cage side with wire guard

Stage 4: Cage side with elements

Stage 5: Cage assembly

Stage 6: Final assembly of the completed toaster
