Greetings CADS members!!
As I look back on the past 18 months at the changes that the pandemic brought
to each of our lives both personally and professionally, I am reminded of how resilient
we have become during this time. Keeping up with the ever-changing CDC, OSHA
and ADA recommendations has been difficult to say the least, but I think we have
done a great job! Even with all the changes, I am very optimistic about what the fu-
ture holds. Currently, all of our meetings are scheduled to be in-person at the Chatta-
nooga Golf and Country Club except for the OSHA meeting which will be held at
Chattanooga State. We have also planned some new dentist events, the Christmas
party at Manker Patten (for dentist only), and the staff appreciation party in the spring.
After having to cancel the 2020 TDA Annual Session, we were able to have an abbreviated one this
June for dentists only. The meeting was a great success. For those of you who were not able to at-
tend, our new TDA President is Dr. Susan Barnes, from Knoxville, and our new President-elect is our very
own Dr. Mitch Baldree. Also, Dr. Ken Randall is our new ADA Delegate and Dr. Kevin Bryant is our CADS
TDA Trustee. We should be very proud to have such quality people representing us on a state and national
level. Of all the changes that the pandemic brought, one was definitely a positive change: the format of
the TDA Delegate meeting changed from an in-person meeting to a virtual one. The meeting ran very
smoothly and was much shorter than the previous in-person meetings. I think we are all hoping that this is
one change that remains.
I would like to give a special thanks to Rhonda Jones, our Executive Director, for all of her hard work
over the past year. We could not have made it without her. Financially, CADS is in a great position. Our
membership numbers are up and our sponsors are increasing. If you know any of our sponsors please be
sure to thank them for all they do for us. Also be sure to look through the list of sponsors and use them when
you can.
In closing, make sure you register for our meeting on Thursday, August 12. Our speaker will be Sara Anne
Quinn and the topic will be OSHA. This meeting is a dentists only meeting, but spouses are welcome. Don't
forget to follow us on social media to not miss out on any of our upcoming events. Also, if you know any-
one who has not been attending our meetings or any new dentist in town make sure you encourage them
to join us.
Looking forward to a great year!
Chad Eslinger, D.D.S.
CADS 2021-2022 President

Having been involved with organized dentistry for over 25 years, I have had many
opportunities to answer the question “why should I join the ADA?”. The American Dental As-
sociation (ADA) is the parent organization representing over 163,000 dentists. The ADA exists
as a tripartite organization consisting also of the Tennessee Dental Association (TDA) and
The Chattanooga Area Dental Association (CADS).
As a member of the ADA you are also a member of TDA and CADS and allowing you
to take advantage of all member benefits. These benefits include advocacy at the highest
local, state and national levels. This advocacy gives us a voice to issues that often affect
our practices. Other programs include the compliance tools that help navigate issues re-
garding HIPPA and OSHA, student loan refinance partnership through Laurel Road, ADA
Find-A-Dentist, The ADA Morning Huddle (an online daily update of current dental hot top-
ics), access to the ADA legal resource team to evaluate contracts or litigation that may af-
fect dentistry on a national level, and a vast amount of CE available online and on the na-
tional, state and local levels.
In addition to these great resources available to all members, I feel one of the best
benefits is the ADA Member Insurance Plans. Five ADA member group insurance plans offer
term life, universal life, disability, overhead expense and supplemental health care cover-
age at huge savings to the member dentist. In addition to the ADA plans, the Tennessee
Dental Insurance Agency is available for many forms of insurance as well.
As you receive your renewal or consider membership, remember we are strongest
when we stand together. Your ADA, TDA and CADS
thank you for your membership! Still undecided? Go to
www.ada.org and click on the Member Benefits section
and read more.
