SteelMint: India's domestic steel scrap index falls further onsubdued semis demand

SteelMint’s domestic steel scrap (end-cutting) index fell by INR
400/tonne (t) to INR 49,300/t DAP Mandi Gobindgarh on 4 May
2022. Scrap traders reduced offers, however, mills stayed away
from purchasing as they await clarity
in price direction amid subdued demand for finished steel. Market
participants have turned cautious and are sticking to need-based
purchases for semi-finished steel to avoid cash flow hiccups.
