NetBase Brand Passion Report:Top 100 Brand LoveList 2015

The most loved brands according to consumers in social media

Why does love matter to brands and marketers?

The magic of a Disney experience shared with your children. The taste of a Starbucks hot chocolate to kick off the day. The technology and aspiration of a Porsche. The affordability and simplicity of IKEA furniture. The intelligent design of Apple products. How do you capture the essence and value of love for a brand?

Today we can understand the minds of consumers like never before. Social media provides a constant revelation about how they feel towards brands like these. For businesses, it’s a gold mine for building and protecting consumer love—if you can make sense of it all. Here at NetBase, our mission is to provide actionable social analytics so you can make major decisions throughout your business—and keep the love for your brand going strong.

Measuring love: The art and science“NetBase Brand Passion Report: Top 100 Brand LoveList” is a close look at the brands consumers express the most love for in social media. Using patented technology, we surfaced the strongest, most positive consumer emotions towards brands, then identified which 100 brands get the most love. Understanding consumer preference is one part art, and one part science. It’s about more than measuring the volume of social content or sentiment. It’s also about the intensity of passion and feeling. And that’s information that can drive intelligent brand decision-making.

Now, social passion offers new insights into brand health, allows measurement of campaigns against lasting emotional assets, and informs geographical action—such as where a love potion may be in order before getting to business as usual. And return on investments has been tied to return on love.

Convert millions of social comments about brand love into social testimonial advertising, influencer marketing, and future programs that will help grow your brand with new audiences.

3

Are your customers headover heels?

Request a consultation and see whatNetBase can do for your brand.

How do we express love for brands?

We can’t measure brand love by simply counting mentions or impressions, because as we all know, brands are talked about for a variety of emotional reasons. And not all of them are good.

There is a big difference between ‘like’ and ‘love’—not to mention sarcastic love or hate. And gentle mocking is nowhere near as alarming as contempt.

That’s why we put our advanced social technology to the test to measure the strongest emotions shared about brands. Love—and every single version of it.

How strongly do your customers really feel about your brand? Have you managed to create consumer passion your competitors envy? Have you cultivated strong customer relationships to set a foundation for future brand growth?

Most consumer purchases are won on emotion. The more passion for the brand, the less the consumer relies on price as the deciding factor.

We wanted consumers to lead us to the brands they love most. NetBase analyzed English-language posts across the public social web, looking for brands most often associated with, but not limited to, the following forms of love:

adore, amaze, awesome, beautiful, best, brilliant, cool, crave, delight, excellent, exceptional, exciting, fabulous, fan, fantastic, favorite, first rate, gorgeous, great, ideal, impressive, incredible, long for, love, magnificent, outstanding, perfect, priceless, revolutionary, sexy, stun, super, terrific, thrill, top notch, vital, wonderful, world class

For our work, we only included the mentions where love is an insight for the brand, not just a keyword. That means we know that ‘Man toyota trd trucks are beautiful’, shows love for Toyota, but ‘a beautiful bird just landed on my Toyota’ - does not.

4

How strong is the love foryour brand in social?

How do we find love?

In our search for love, the language was set to English but we did not restrict it to any region, making this a global study of English-speaking consumers.

Majority of posts analyzed came from: USA, UK, Australia, Canada, India and Brazil. But global coverage included: Germany, France, South Africa, Ireland, Netherlands, Malaysia, Philippines, Italy, Singapore, Spain, New Zealand, Indonesia, Belgium, Argentina, Mexico, Denmark, Japan, Portugal, Sweden, United Arab Emirates, Poland, Colombia , Nigeria, Israel, Switzerland, China, Panama, Chile, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Thailand, South Korea, Pakistan, Hong Kong, Egypt, Jamaica, Venezuela, Greece, Austria, Turkey, Hungary, Ecuador, Kenya, Norway, Peru, Ghana, Puerto Rico, Czech Republic, Romania, Jordan, Lebanon, Finland, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Taiwan, Vanuatu, Paraguay, Latvia, Morocco, Dominican, Republic, Guatemala, Serbia, Kuwait, Bahrain, Nepal, Malta, Oman, Luxembourg, Croatia, Trinidad and Tobago, Costa Rica, Estonia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Zimbabwe, Botswana, Azerbaijan, Albania, and Swaziland.

We ran a full year of data analysis from February 14, 2014 to February 15, 2015 and found more than 150,000 brands, things, places and people that consumers had shared love for in social.

This list leaves out a number of categories, including: religion (like the Bible), institutions (like the White House), locations (like Hawaii), celebrities (like Justin Bieber), TV shows (like The Walking Dead, or Doctor Who), entertainment (like One Direction), media outlets (like BBC, Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, etc.)

We took extra steps to remove fake posts generated by bots and spam engines. Finally, we ranked our list of brands based on highest number of strong emotions associated with love, which we identified earlier.
