PROJECT SUMMARY

The Washington DC Jewish Community Center first opened in 1926, and has since then undergone renovations and incorporated an addition on the Eastern portion of its site.

The goals of the Edlavitch JCC are to preserve and strengthen Jewish identity, heritage, tradition and values through a variety of social, cultural, recreational, and educational programs and services. The center accomplishes these goals in ways that reflect the unique location and role of the center in the nation's capital, and the many contributions of the American Jewish community in the United States.

The aim of this project is to improve the JCC member experience, retain and enhance the historic character, improve circulation and flexibility through the interior, promote efficient use of space and resources, and improve the safety and security of the children and students. The new JCC hosts an expanded arts and early childhood program, and appeals to a new generation of members through updated systems, new spaces, improved technology, enhanced security and refreshed finishes throughout.
