"We give thanks to you O Lord, for the gift of life

You made us in Your image and we are your gift to

the world.“

We have been going through testing times but it is the

Almighty who has protected us and our families. We are

much grateful to Him for He has shown us the way to

fight all odds and evolve victorious. In spite of

temporary illness, our teachers and students have

successfully completed an academic session that was not

easy.

Rev K Paul Victor

Principal

It gives me immense pleasure to look back at the academic and non academic

activities that we conducted throughout the session. We could live up to the

expectations of all stakeholders and improved ourselves with each passing day. We

look forward to better days and hope the Lord will soon heal the world and the

classrooms will reverberate with the sound of joy. We have come a long way and we

have a long way to go and the cooperation of each stakeholder is equally important.

Together, we will reach the apex of school education.

Alpha has always been my personal favourite. The colourful pages of this magazine

help us realise how talented our children are! It gives an opportunity to our

students to nurture and showcase their writing, painting and photography skills.

This edition of Alpha is also a beautiful book to be treasured for life.

I congratulate all of them for not letting the system of school education collapse.

1

Thank you very much for this opportunity to send my

message for this magazine.

The pandemic has devastated the whole world and

things are noe like never before. Although we have

lost much we have also learnt and grown in ways that

are unimaginable. One of the things that we have all

adapted to is the brilliant use of the internet. It has

now become an integral part of our lives and our

educational experience. One could not have imagined

this a few years ago. Mrs Lalitha Victor

Secretary

The school is now on the brink of its silver jubilee and it stands as testimony to

God's goodness and faithfulness over these two and a half decades. We have

changed amd grown in many ways and under the younger and more dynamic

leadership I am confident that we will emerge better equipped to deal with the

challenges of the future. I am reminded of the verse in the book of

Lamentations:

"The steadfast love of the Lord never faileth, His mercies never come to an end.

They are new every morning".

Assembly of Christ School stands as a witness to the truth of this testimony.

As we release this magazine, let us renew our commitment to the ideals of its

Founders. May both the school and The Sushila Memorial Hostel be a beacon to

the city and a place of true learning.

My grateful thanks to all who labour in this endeavour.

May God bless us all.

2

"Everybody is talented because everybody who

is human has something to express "At

Assembly of Christ School, we believe in

giving equal opportunities to our students as

each one of them is special and precious to us.

Each one of them is talented in his or her own

way. We create opportunities for our students

to express themselves through their writings,

painting, art work, music, dance and

photography besides their academic skills.

Alpha, been evidence of the same. This edition of Alpha is special as this is

an account of a session that was almost entirely online. However, as we say,

where there is a will, there is a way, no hurdle, natural or man-made could

obstruct us from reaching out to our students and letting them know that what

may come, we are there to hand-hold them and lead them to a world of

creativity. Each paper of this magazine is a witness that we have lived

together, a goal that has been achieved together. As the Director of the

school, I congratulate every student, parent and teacher for making this

possible. I promise to extend my support in every possible way to keep up the

success saga of the school.

3

Dear ACS family,

I write this message to you from many miles

away, and from across several continents and

seas.

I take this opportunity to wish our dear school a

very happy Founder's day. The legacy of my

grandparents has now reached its fulfillment as

we enter into the 25th year. The school has

withstood many storms and difficulties and yet

we have emerged stronger for it.

Ms. Karen Korati

Administrator

We can now surge forward trusting that God will lead us into a future that

is secure. I thank all who have stood by us and have surrounded us with love

and prayers. May we move into this new year in faith and hope and love.

May God bless us all

On behalf of the Assembly of Christ School, I would like to

welcome you as you browse through our e-magazine. I

hope it will give you a flavour of our wonderful school. I am

very proud of our school, our pupils and their successes – a

true school which values each child as an individual and

fosters a love of learning.

I feel privileged to be a team player of such a wonderful

school and to have the opportunity to ensure that each child

receives the best possible education in their formative

years. As a non-selective school, we do not ‘cherry-pick’

those children who happen to do well in a set of exams when

they were young. However, we do expect the very best from

our students. This philosophy is not about reaching

Calvin LaPorte

Editor-in-chief

potential, it is

about growing potential – giving our students the opportunities and encouragement to

help them understand that they can achieve much more than they first realise.

Our students are challenged to have courage, learn new things, develop new skills and

deepen their understanding. Learning is best achieved in a collaborative community which

inspires and encourages ambitious minds with high quality and dynamic teachers being

the driving force behind such a setting. We prepare ‘Thinking Children’, As a result,

our students leave The Assembly of Christ School with the essential character traits of

integrity, tolerance and resilience, and with excellent ICSE / ISC results.

We have an aspiration for all our children that through their school journey they will

fulfil their academic potential and become successful lifelong learners. In addition, we

endeavour that our children will possess high levels of both social and emotional

intelligence so that they are well placed to succeed and thrive in the future, becoming

active and productive members of society.

The school e-magazine may only give you a small snapshot of work done at ACS. To

really understand what we do, I welcome you to visit us and see for yourself. I would be

delighted to meet with you.

A very big ‘Thank you’ reaches to each member involved in the production

of this e-magazine.

With regards5

It was very rightly said that “Education is a shared

commitment between dedicated teachers, motivated

students and enthusiastic parents with high

expectations.”

The pandemic has broken all the set rules of

our classrooms. We have been forced to stay at home and

lead a cautious life. However, the education of children

is not a matter to be taken lightly and thus we teachers

have become the frontline warriors. Education cannot

remain standstill. Children cannot be allowed to loose

years of valuable educational foundation.

We teachers have geared up to continue to impart

knowledge to our pupils through the online

platform. Unconventional as it was, school

must go on and therefore it shifted from school buildings to homes. Last year and

this year, though challenging, has taught us to view education with a different

perspective. We were challenged at every step we took, obstructed in every thought to

promote education, but we preserved and changed and moulded ourselves to suit the

need of the day.

We not only focused on academics but also groomed pupils through various online

competitions, examination and co-curricular activities.

Several activities were conducted to break the monotony of Online learning, like

Poster making, Sharing and Caring during Diwali, Reading, Celebration of

Teachers Day and Children’s Day, Christmas Activity, Elocution and Dance

Competition.

Our little cherubs learnt morals, art as well as lessons. All in all, though

challenging, the year 2021 has been fulfilling. As a co-ordinator, I am glad that I

have been successful in my aim to educate young learners and impart knowledge,

despite all these hurdles.

“For, each man can do best and excel in only that thing of which he is passionately fond, in which he believes, as I do, that he has the ability to do it, that he is in fact born and destined to do it.”Homi Jehangir Bhabha – The Father of Indian Nuclear ProgrammeThis house is named after such a person who is known for his perfection, purpose and excellence and we are proud to be a part of this house - BHABHA HOUSE. Competitions not only motivates the students and drives them to put forth their best efforts but also ignites a spark of interests within them. To encourage and bring out the skills, talents and creativity among students, our school The Assembly of Christ conducts several activities which is though challenging but on the other hand becomes the mode of entertainment. List of some activities which took place in the session 2021 - 2022 are as follows :Rabindra Jayanti : To mark the 160th birth anniversary of nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore, our young minds and teachers tried to pay a small tribute to honour the polymath through their songs, dance performances, recitation and speech. It acted as a mode of positive reinforcement and also helped the children to increase their visual analysis and concentration. Elocution Competition : An elocution competition gives students a good opportunity to combat with the fear of Glossophobia i.e. public speaking. To achieve positive attitude and confidence among the students, elocution competition was conducted in three mediums of language i.e. English , Hindi and Bengali in which our house bagged 2nd, 1st

and 4th position respectively. Dance Competition : As there is a quote which says, “Dancers don’t need wings to fly.”, somewhere its true because dancers fly through their moves. Similarly, the participants of our house swayed into their moves and grabbed 3rd position in whole.Story Telling Competition : A good orator is one who knows his audience and is gifted with words which can connect him to his listeners. The participants of Bhabha house tried their best to reach their spectators through various phrases and sentences and secured third position.“The pressure to win is less important than having fun and learning new skill.” This is the motto that we follow in Bhabha house and try to motivate and help young minds in developing their problem - solving skills.

Education without co curricular activities is like educating the mind without educating the soul. School life cannot be imagined without ongoing inter-house debates, elocutions, dance and singing competitions. We started our journey with a view to boost the confidence and spirit of independence of every child and give equal footage to them through these activities.

According to Warren Beffet, “The most important investment you can make is in yourself”. We believe that every pupil is gifted with various skills. It is our duty to nurture them and help them expose their talents. Participants of Bhabha House have tried their best and will show their supremacy through our constant monitoring in future.

Elocution Competition: Pupils displayed their oratory skills by reciting some very interesting poetic verses and bagged second prize in both Hindi and English category.

Dance Competition: Inter house dance competition began with great jest and excitement. Our participants dressed in colourful costumes set the stage on fire with their thrilling performances. Our participants acquired the first and second position in classical and folk dance.

Our participants have tried to express and explore themselves in areas depending upon their interests, skills and talents and tried to make this year a promising one for us.

“Life loses half its interest if there is no struggle – if there are no risks to be taken”. Subhash House has been named after the great personality, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose. In these chal lenging times, our students have shown their expertise in every field. Be it on the school campus or on the virtual platform, they have faced every chaIlenge with grit and determination. With these sentiments I would like to express my heartfelt gratitude to the parents and guardians for helping the children to participate in online competition organized by The Assembly of Christ School, Titagarh. The emotion of people, as we analyze, have moved from fear to anger, depression and helplessness. It helps improve their language skills, instills a love of reading and stirs their imagination. To encourage the skills of listening and reading, a story Telling Competition was held on 15th November, 2021. We secured 1st position in this competition. Singing Competition: Music binds our soul, hearts and emotions. It cheers the spirit and lightens the heart. To bring out the singing talents of the students, an Inter- house Solo Song Competition was organized by our school. The singing competition was held on 14th January, 2022. The children sang the songs with confidence and passion. “Be thankful for each new challenge, because it will build your strength and character” The students have been taught to accept every challenge in life with dignity. They need to learn to overcome obstacles that appear in their journey. Overcoming obstacles is important because an ability to overcome obstacles allows us to move forward in life, and not be held back by the challenges that we face.

“ The mind once enlightened cannot

again become dark.”

To enlighten the young minds and to analyze

the hidden talent among the children, our

school, The Assembly of Christ School

conduct various activities every year with the

help of the teachers, who play the key role in

unfolding the potential of each and every child

so that they can respect their strength and

become the King of their Trade, or Saviours of

the World to come.

Activities held in the current session, 2021-

2022, are as follows:

39

It was the beginning of a new session and first activity of the month. The students were quite happy in this activity. They showed their creativity in drawings & paintings.

‘Poila Baisakh’ or 'Naba Barsho', which marks the beginning of the Bengali New Year will be celebrated with fervour on April 15 this year. People will dress up for the occasion, hold special prayers and participate in rituals and processions besides throwing feasts. While "ShubhoNabobarsho" which literally means “Happy New Year" is the traditional greeting Bengalis use on the occasion

40

This joyous occasion was displayed beautifully by the

paintings and drawings made by the students for the e-

activity board. The new session and the new year began

with bright colours.

41

RABINDRA JAYANTI is a cultural celebration to mark the birth anniversary

of the luminary, Nobel Peace Prize laureate, Rabindranath Tagore.

Our students paid rich tribute on Gurudev`s birthday by offering dance,

speeches, singing melodious songs, reciting poems from his repertoire.

Our Hindi teacher explained the greatness of Rabindranath Tagore, his

achievements and how he was appreciated by each and every individual

who knew him.

With the joint efforts of the students and the teachers, the whole

programme turned out to be a grand success and it also marked a

marvelous onstage activity.

42

An art which helps the artist to doodle his imagination on the sheet of paper and which plays a big role in improving his cognitive domain. This year also our school organized a Drawing Competition in order to expand the analytic skills and conceptual ideas through their painting. It was held on 11th and 12th May, 2021, respectively using the virtual platform of Zoom. It was mandatory for all the pupils from class I to V to take part in this competition. The finished painting of the pupils were uploaded under the given assignment in google classroom.

43

A poster speaks for itself. On 15th May, 2021, another competition which was full of creativity took place among the students of classes I- V. In Poster making competition our little ones showed their innovativeness on various given topics. Each class had been given a different topic, e.g. for class I it was Brush Painting, class II had to do Hand Painting, class III had to work on International Family Day and class V had to celebrate Museum Day through their poster-making. All the posters were merged in collage form and was displayed on the school’s web page.

44

LORD

In order to ignite the fire of imagination and creativity in the students, our school decided to organize Poster Making Activity on 15th May, 2021 using the virtual platform. The theme of the competition was `Armed Forces `for classes VI-VIII and `Heal the World ‘for class IXOur class IX students made beautiful posters with immense zeal and enthusiasm to spread the message of love, peace, kindness, and generosity which are the keys to heal the world we are living in..

45

The children of classes VI-VIII, beautifully conceptualized and through their posters saluted all the army men for their bravery, dedication and patriotism.

46

47

The day of 9th May, 2021is dedicated to a person who is strong, brave and the most special person in a child’s life. To the world, a mother is just a count but to the child, his mother is his world. To celebrate this valuable day our students did something different to make their MOM feel special. Students from Kindergarten to class V prepared cards for their mother and made them feel special by their self prepared creative dishes. Various pictures and videos witnessing the love between the mother and the child was further uploaded in the social media in the school’s page.

48

“Keep reading. It’s one of the most

marvellous adventures that anyone

can have.” 49

Reading exercises comprehension and analytical abilities. It fires up

imagination and stimulates the memory centres of mind. So an activity

class was allotted only for class V in order to celebrate National Reading

Day on 18th June, 2021. In virtual reading classes, the pupils read story

books under the guidance of the teachers who helped them to read the

stories with proper articulation and expression. Screenshots or snaps

were taken during this activity class by the allotted teachers that were

posted on the page of social media in the form of collage.

50

“A READER LIVES A THOUSAND LIVES BEFORE HE DIES. THE MAN

WHO NEVER READS LIVES ONLY ONE”.

Books are a uniquely portable magic. The National Reading Day was observed by our students on 13th June, 2021 to spread the message of 'Read and Grow' among all the students of classes VI-IX under the guidance of the teachers read various books of their choice to promote not only a culture of reading but also to inculcate the habit of reading among themselves.

51

If a mother is the root of kindness and humbleness then a father is the source of inspiration and self-restraint. On the special day of 19th June, 2021, all the students from Classes I – V participated in various activities to express their respect, gratitude and love towards their fathers. Students made greeting cards, danced with their fathers and also prepared their fathers’ favourite snacks. Students shared their experiences with their teachers online. All the activities were captured and combined to form a collage which was uploaded on social media.

52

The school celebrated International Yoga Day on 21.6.21 for classes 1 to V online, to convey the message of keeping mind and body fit through asanas. The excitement of the children was palpable on screen as they geared up to celebrate the International Day of Yoga 2021 in their online classes. This time, though it was a virtual celebration, it was nevertheless exciting because of its novelty. It was a new experience for the students to celebrate Yoga day from their home as a event for the school. Students of classes I – V performed different asanas under the guidance of teachers. A video was made with the snaps of these activities and posted on social media.

53

National Doctors' Day is celebrated on July 1 all across India to honor the legendary physician and the second Chief Minister of West Bengal, Dr.Bidhan Chandra Roy. Working round-the-clock shifts and putting their own health in danger, this day gives a perfect opportunity to salute their work.Students celebrated Doctor’s day with a lot of enthusiasm. They showcased their creative skills in drawing and colouring and the result was amazing art work. This fun filled activity witnessed an enthusiastic participation by all students

54

""A teacher takes a hand, opens a mind and touches a heart."

Teachers' Day is celebrated to appreciate teachers for having a tremendous impact on a child's life. They are the ones that hold knowledge and empathy for their students. We celebrate Teachers' Day on the 5th of September because it is the birth anniversary of India's former President Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan. He was a person who loved and adored children.

Virtual Teachers' Day was filled with exciting and heart-warming presentations from the students. The program started by welcoming all the teachers and wishing them. A video compilation of photos of teachers was played followed by junior students reciting poems in English and Hindi. The tiny tots completely stole the show by walking gracefully on the ramp. The program came to an end with a beautiful dance performance by a senior student.

It must be mentioned that everything was organized very beautifully. The day was filled with lots of excitement, joy and happiness. Teachers were ecstatic for the appreciation and love shown by their dear students.
