We generally only allow school crossings where a signalized intersection is also available. FDOT also agreed on installing a SCHOOL ENTRANCE sign on to curlew rd approaching the school. Possible DAS Relocation We communicated to all parents for a possible relocation of our campuses to

2465 Nursery Rd Clearwater 33764. As of May 14th, we haven’t secured to site yet. Currently, we are in the budgeting part of the project. We

hope to have a decision by the end of the school year. Unity Church governing board approved the sale to the school.

Please fill out the survey to tell us your intention of keeping your student(s) enrolled at DAS. Below is the survey link https://forms.gle/iMHMLmk2ngL9ToJ87

So far, we have 99.98 % of our parents who want to stay enrolled at DAS. 15% of parents still want to stay at DAS but finds the location far.

DAS will make sure to make every effort to continue serving our current DAS community by all means. Please stay tuned for more information.

PE Court Project for 2021-22 PE court project will continue even if DAS moves to the new campus in August 2022. Our students

deserve the best. We will move all the fundraising bricks already purchased to the new clearwater location once the

move is final. Dismissal Traffic – ATTENTION PARENTS Starting from April 14th, we schedule a security detail from PCSO to direct St.Mark and Curlew

intersection traffic. However, if there are no available deputies on some days, PCSO won’t be able to send someone to the post. We ask for your patience on the days if there aren’t any officers to control the traffic.

On the other hand, I contacted FDOT asking a school zone signage installation on Curlew Rd. below is their response.

o State procedures would not permit the installation of a reduced school speed zone for this operational issue, as we only generally install when children are crossing the State Highway using an approve school crosswalk, which is not present at this intersection. We generally only allow school crossings where a signalized intersection is also available.

FDOT also agreed on installing a SCHOOL ENTRANCE sign on to curlew rd approaching the school. They will also install a crosswalk onto the north side of Curlew at St.. Marks Dr. This should help the walkers to cross St. Mark Dr safely.

As I work through this, I do appreciate your patience.

FSA & MAP Testing We are inviting all e-learning students in grades 3rd-8th to the school for FSA testing. So far, we have

had a 100% attendance rate. Thank you, DAS families and students. For other grade levels, FSA scores help us monitor our students on Florida State Benchmarks and high

school magnet program applications. We have designated additional spaces to accommodate social distancing during FSA testing for e-

learning students. Please contact Asst. Principal Mr. Duman for any FSA/MAP testing related questions at

Hello DAS Students and Families.

I hope you all had a great week. Another productive week here at DAS. We administered E-learning Reading, Science,

and Civics EOC exams this week. If your child has missed his or her test session, please contact me for scheduling a

make up test as quickly as possible since are nearing to the end of the testing window. Next week we are

administering FSA Math to all F2F classes from grade 3 to grade 8. Please make sure that your child gets a good sleep

and comes to school refreshed on Monday. We will also have FSA math test for elementary e-learners on Wednesday

and Thursday. Please follow your teachers’ newsletters and emails for testing arrangements.

We also celebrated students’ NWEA growth goal this week. Students, who met at least two of their NWEA learning

goals since NWEA Winter test, participated in a pizza party. It was amazing to see the pride in their eyes. It was really a

big deal for children because back in February, they evaluated their performance and set goals with the guidance of

their teachers and they worked hard to meet those goals. I am so proud of them since they exhibited accountability

on their own learning. I will post pictures from pizza party on our school’s Facebook page

Computer Science — Mrs Bradbury

Welcome to Computer Science this semester my students have started our final unit of this school year—Cyber Security.

This week we have set learning goals for ourselves for this unit, whilst doing this we looked at what Cybersecurity actually is and also all the careers which are in the field of Cybersecurity.

We then looked at the Impact of Cybersecurity, including real life scenarios such as—Wanna Cry Ransomware attack Yahoo security breach and also the very recent pipeline Cyberattack, by doing this we were able to look at the negative consequences of these types of attacks.

The students also studied the CIA triad, where we looked at how this is used to help maintain safety, the students read scenarios and recommended which breaches of the CIA triad were being made and also mage suggestions of how these could be prevented. The students then created their own CIA Triad Infographjc using Google Draw.

We finished off the week by research on different types of hackers—Black Hat, White Hat, Gray Hat—students decided which type of hacker they would be !!! and we created digital hats.

Awesome work guys !!!!

There is a hacker attack every 39 seconds

A Clark School study at the University of Maryland is one of the first to quantify the near-constant rate of hacker attacks of computers with Internet access— every 39 seconds on average, affecting one in three Americans every year —and the non-secure usernames and passwords we use that give attackers more chance of success.

Sixth and Seventh Grade MathNews from Ms. Chapin ([email protected])

This week in math, they continued reviewing for the math FSA based on the need demonstrated on their latestNWEA Map tests and classroom observation. Next week, the face-to-face students have the math FSA, though thee-Learners don’t have it until the following week. To round out the year, we’re going to be doing some practical mathprojects, like learning how to budget, pay taxes, and create designs.

Any late work must be turned in by May 28 to allow time for grading. The work in June will be classwork andshould be turned in each day during class, so it should not be late. Students who were not happy with their score on theFSA practice test 1 are welcome to study their mistakes and attempt practice test 2 to improve their grade. I-ready finaldiagnostics will be the last week of May to show students’ growth throughout the year and help set goals for the summerand upcoming school year.

Any students who are absent are welcome to join the e-Learning classes, as I have those for every class, too. 6thGrade Advanced meets 8:30-9:17, 7th grade Advanced meets virtually 9:20-10:05, 7th grade meets 10:08-10:53, and 6thgrade math meets 10:56-12:32. They will be weird next week, with FSA going on for some groups, but the scheduleand assignments are all posted on DAS Connect.

WHY ARE EFFECTIVE NOTE TAKING SKILLS IMPORTANT? Better notes will help you remember concepts, develop meaningful learning skills, and gain a better understanding of a topic. Effective notes will even lead to less stress when test time comes around! Learning how to take better study notes in class helps improve recall and understanding of what you are learning because it:

• Ensures you are actively listening to what the teacher is saying

• Requires you to think about what you are writing

• Helps you make connections between topics

• Serves as quality review material for after class

Using different note taking strategies is important, especially as you progress through high school and transition to college or university. There are several note taking techniques you can use to start taking better notes in class. https://www.oxfordlearning.com/5-effective-note-taking-methods/

6th Grade Science

This past week in 6th grade science we read chapter

13.2 on “Viruses”. Students learned about how

viruses enter the body and spread within the body.

They also learned how vaccines work. With this

chapter they completed an assignment on study

island to help review and show what they learned.

This coming week they will begin Chapter 13.3 on

protists.

6th Grade STEM

In STEM students began working on building with different

geometric shapes. These included cylinders, cubes, and

triangles. They used paper to build towers and

experimented on the structural integrity of their designs.

Coming up this week students will finish presenting their

prior experiments and complete their math FSA testing.
