Reverse engineering; proposal for a blender

Introduction

This project focuses on reverse engineering of a blender. The first thing that we need in this

project was to obtain the changes that we need to do to the blender. To obtain these changes, we

carried out a statistical survey on blender users. We gave them questioners to be filled out that

asked questions about the blenders in eternal and what their preferences are. The results of the

research are summarized in the attached chart. Some of the reverse engineering areas identified

are discussed below.

Model

The most important factor that most customers are concerned about is the motor and the blades

make. First, the motor needs to be powerful enough to slice even frozen fruits. The motor cannot

accomplish this alone; it will need to drive some really sharp blades. The blades should also be

long enough to occupy most of the container body. This will help in making sure that all the

fruits have been sliced when the blender is switched on. A variable speed motor would also do

well with a varying knob to perform the function.

The other important aspect is that it should have a detachable base. Cleaning a blender is difficult

if one cannot be able to detach it on the lower end and clean it as two components. This way, the

bladed can be reached and cleaned well. A specific leaning brush should be identified that can be

used to clean the blender well to the hygienic standards needed. Many brushes are unable to

reach the areas that need to be reached to clean them. The seal of the detachable component

should neb tight so that the blender dies not leak when it has been assembled.

The assembly should have a plug on the lid that can allow one to add components on the blender

as it is on. This will enhance efficiency to the user. The blender should also have a way to muffle

its sound that it makes when it’s on. A thick wall may be the way to go coupled with an efficient

motor blade interface. The model should be long lasting. Many users uses the blender several

times a week, the blender needs to hereof be able to service the customer for s long period of

time. Finally, our blender needs to have a wider sprout. This is to enable pouring out smoothly of

the contents, and not taking forever to empty the blender as is the case with the current blender

that is on offer.

Physical

First, there should be several sizes of the blender so that a customer can choose one depending

on the size of their needs. The other thing is that it should be trustworthy. Many customers are

concerned about the appearance that looks like it may break to pieces at any moment. The

components should be able to with stand pressure and give it an appearance of strength.

For easy use, the buttons should be at a place where they can be accessed easily when the

blender is getting used. The button panel should also be distinctive; the instructions should be

easy to follow and implement. Despite the appearance of durability, the blender should also be

appealing in appearance. Many people want objects that blend well with their other implements

in their homes. The curves should be smooth both on the visible an invisible parts like the

handle.

Cost

Many blenders have a range of pricing and it’s a deciding factor for most customers. A price

range of between $400 and $500 would be ideal. This calls for the make mix to take into account

so that the cost of making the implement can be optimized.

Customer needs

When one is gathering information on the field, one needs to be careful with the customers so

that one can get accurate information on the research they are doing. First, the manner of

information obtaining should be free of any feelings of exposure. For instance the questioners

should not ask for names or residence; these puts off people. Secondly, the questions in the

questioners should not be lead questions, a lead question could ask, is the huddle of the blender

not small? Thirdly, the questions should be few and brief. People are impatient with businesses

that are not worthy to them monetary wise.

To make the information comprehensive, a minimum of ten resource people is ideal for the

research. Most of the people who purchase the blenders are the grown up especially the women.

It would be wise to interview women than men. However, most young ladies are not very keen

about these blenders; married women are the ideal as they are keen on taking care of their

families.

The redesign of the blender is likely to raise the cost of the blender. Better quality calls for more

cash to be invested in the product quality. There is also likely to be an increase in the sales

resulting from the better quality being offered to the customers.

Importance of survey

As an engineer, one cannot tell all the needs that are required by the people for whom a design is

being made. It therefore only prudent to go to these people and find out what they require. This

way one can make a product that is relevant to the consumer and meet their needs. The priorities

should be given in the order in which the issues have been addressed starting with the most

important to the least important of the customer specifications. I also realized that many of the

customers were not really worried about the cost; the quality should not be sacrificed based on

the cost. Most of the customers are only interested in getting their desires met.
