“A light to the darkness” – a Success case study on SSA -Microsoft Training
“A teacher affects eternity”. This saying is made
true by Mr.Shajahan, The Headmaster of
Panchayat Union Middle School, Katrampatty,
Thirumangalam Union of Madurai District has
undertaken the Project Shiksha training at
Microsoft training Centre, Madurai through
SSA.
Gandhiji said “Villages are the backbone of
Impact of Training
SSA Intel Teach Programmethe nation”. But the basic necessities like
transportation and technological facilities are
denied to many such villages. But dedicated
teacher like Mr. Shajahan take effort to
enlighten such villages by their hard work and
sincerity.
Mr. Shajahan, who has taken the effort to
increase the strength of the school and in order
to provide a quality technology based
education. The teacher has gathered the literate
youths working in the software and computer
related field to provide the parts of the
computer and assembled a system to enlighten
the rural children to teach.
As a part of introducing new methodology
in teaching the headmaster uses educational
CDs which are delivered by SSA and he spends
an extra hour for each class in the evening after
the regular class to introduce new methodology
in teaching various subjects of the children.
None of the parents in the village even dreamed
that their children could get such a technology
oriented education like the urban children.
He has converted all the lessons of Science
subjects of 6th standard to 8th standard as
digital content using the Powerpoint and used
to visit the madurai district training centre to
modify and edit the digital contents that he has
created.
Mr. Shajahan becomes an ideal teacher who
makes his profession a noble one. If all the
teachers take such an effort within a decade our
rural areas will become techno villages

ICT In Convergence with other Components
Computer Aided Learning in support with Project Based Learning techniques have paved the way to
focus on providing success with convergence of other components of SSA like Inclusive Education, Girl
Children…
CAL impacting the special need children to prove “disable are turned out to be most abled human being”.

A Student ALM mind map in Computer
Teachers with great innovative thinking have
proved that technology integration would help
them to eradicate the difficulties of differently
abled children and motivated them towards
enhancing their skills and spritis with the help of
CAL.
Ms. Magdalene, an innovative teacher from
Government Higher Secondary School,
Ammaiyappan, Koradacher i Block of
Thiruvarur district who wanted to promote
thinking with her students have set the
enhancing children with special need (CWSNs)
with her project.
About the Village:
Ammaiyappan is located in the outskirt of the capital thiruvarur district with 90% of the
population depends agriculture for their earning. 80% of students belong to SC. The economic
condition is not stable and They were always in need.
Reason for Choosing the Topic:
A parent who had come to the school with their differently abled child for admission in VI
Standard she has abnormal growth and her fingers were irregular. She looks older than her age.
The H.M could not pacify them and he approached the teacher and said “Teacher examine the girl
and say whether she can be admitted in the normal school or in a special school”. With the effort of
Mrs. Magdalene and the Headmaster that child was given admission in sixth standard and she in
continuing her education. This incident lighten the darkness and motivated Mrs. Magdalene (the
project teacher) to set the task to help the differently abled children's back to school enrollment.
The entire team started with the vision and target:
1. Teachers : To make them differently abled friendly.
2. Students : To make them differently abled friendly.
3. The differently abled of our school in order to make them achievers.
Hearing & Speaking Impaired : 3
Mild Mentally Retorted : 3
Physically Challenged : 3
Visual Problem : 1
Implementation:
Lesson plan designed for VI standard student, based on the lesson “The Mystery Revealed (The life
Helen Keller)” and lesson was taught through PBL. The students were motivated. They were told
that education can only make the differently abled independent. Teacher asked the students if there
was any differently abled drop out children in their surroundings for which immediate responses
were turned from the student's side. One of the boys
stood up and said that there were two girls in his
village.
Teacher initiated the students to focus on meeting
them with kind strategies to convince them towards
enrolment in to the schools. The next day, the students
came with a positive report that both the girls were
interested to attend the school and also got the mobile
number of the parents. As the village was 3km away
from the school, teacher contacted the parents only
through phone. Counseling session helped to convince their parents towards enrollment of their
wards. Though the parents hesitated initially by not turning up with their wards, the team was not
ready to give up. They continued our work. Every day the project children met the parents. At last,
after a month the parents name convinced and brought the two girls to school. “I have found no
word to explain the joy in the face of the children when they entered into the school campus. I thank
God the almighty, our SSA for the Intel Teach programme who had helped us to design the projects,
implementing through the students the biggest task force of our nation”, says the teacher.
A power point presentation was made on the differently abled persons who achieved in their life –
Thomas Alva Edison, Wilma Rudalph, Helen Keller, Stephen Hawkins, Jessica Cox and the Kalpana
Chawla Awardee Rajalakshmi(athletic player of Usilampatti) and shown to the teachers and
students. Now the teachers realized the importance inclusive education. They have understood that
love and encouragement care make the differently abled great not sympathy. Village Education
Committee and President have extended great support to enhance the life style of these kids
The DDRO (District Rehabilitation Officer), JSS Director, Village President and the Rotary Club of
Ammaiyappan were contacted. The children effort was showcased to all the public too. They were
very much impressed. The president provided them uniform. The Rotary Club provided them
stationeries.
As the first success, 10 differently abled children including the newly termed special children were
admitted in the school. Special computer education is being given to them after the school hour. To
bring out their ability (hidden talents). 80% of them are good in painting. A special girl child who has
attained the basic skills started asking the teachers to train her with digital literacy skills.
Madam, why did not you teach me to type letters. You are touching the keyboard. But you have not
taught me. When will you teach that? You have it teach me tomorrow.” And all these type of
questions were put to the teacher as the child is ready and confident to learn that is done by her
teacher and said, “Madam asks to H.M to come and see my pictures.”
One again I thank Intel Teach Program for bringing a silver line in the life of the differently abled of
our school. “Says the teacher.

“These words impressed me and showed the way for me to walk along with my students.” said by Mr.
K.Karthikeyan, Secondary Grade Teacher, Panchayat Union Middle School, Melarankiyam
Thirupuvanam, Sivagangai district, Tamil Nadu. “SSA-INTEL Teach Programmme has created the
space for us to have our dream fulfilled, to express our inner instincts towards the improvement in our
society” He added while he was presenting the implemented project on “NEED OF WOMEN
EDUCATION”
Melarankiyam is a Village Panchayat in Sivagangai District
of Tamil Nadu state located in25 km from Madurai and 8
km from Thiruppuvanam town with main occupation on
men is meson and the women is wood cutting and cattle
rearing
It was a golden opportunity for Mr. K.Karthikeyan to six
days training programmme that was conducted by SSA
through Intel. There he came to know how to make the
classroom activities an enthusiastic one and to provoke the
thinking capacity of the students and making the teaching
learning process easy. Right message was captured by him
to design the Project Based Learning (PBL) ideas and assign the students to take the roles. As He was
waiting for the opportunity, started his preparation of planning the implementation of the lesson on
'Social Problems and Solutions' from Social Science subject. This lesson is being taught for VIII standard
students. Instead of the conventional method, he wanted his students to take the role of, educationist to
explore the problems faced by girls especially in continuing their education. He had guided the students
to explore by conducting the surveys, in their neighbourhood, & headed by area wise assigned heads - by
dividing the students in to different groups.
As per the teacher's guidance, the students collected the data and analyzed the factors that
prevents/stops the higher education particularly girls education in Melarankiyam; They presented their
findings that statistically achievement of girls higher education in their village had been a great problem
due to various reasons such as lack of awareness, financial crisis, looking of household activities and fear
in continuing higher education. This had lead to the fact that
the women higher education is completely stopped.
The teacher conducted a speech competition on this topic
in the school level. The HM presided over the function and
gave the prizes.
She also congratulated the PBL team for their interest and
enthusiasm in the project.
This had lead to the good motivation amongst the mindset
of young students who then conducted rally and
organized VEC meetings with the help of their master to
propagate the need of education for girl children
In addition to the same, a meeting was also
conducted by the students to the villagers. The
eminent participants were Melarangiyam
President Mrs.C. Chitra Chellasamy, VAC –
Chairman Mr.Chinnasami Mr. Krishnan,
Counselor, Ex President Mr.Veeranan and all the
local Village people . The Project team briefly
described about the ill effects and the need of
improving Girl Education.
All the Villagers accepted this wonderful idea and
they assured to implement this concept in their
Village as the initial phase. The PBL team issued handouts to the Villagers too. All the villagers have
given their assurance in a deceleration form to ensure their support for girl children continuing
education.
CONTINUING THIS MOVEMENT FOR UPLIFTMENT OF WOMEN THE VILLAGE HAD BECOME THE BREATH OF PROJECT TEAM

An effective tracking and monitoring system followed by SSA, Government of Tamil Nadu (at
the State and District level) and NIIT have contributed in proper implementation of the program and
thereby ensuring the desired goal is achieved
TOWARDS TRIUMPH
A success case study on NIIT training programme:
The demand for knowledge developers with
specialized skills is growing in this technology world
for the students to pursue a variety of alternative
learning paths. Technology is helping teachers to
expand beyond linear, text-based learning and to
engage students who learn best in other ways and turn
“computer classroom” into a versatile learning room.
The usage and the steps that schools taken to integrate
computers into their classrooms are innovative and
equally successful. It has proved to be a doable
beginning for teachers across Pudukkottai district to
whom the Panchayat Union Primary School-Neduvasall north serves as the model who trained through
NIIT Computer Training Programme by Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan made Mr.Karuppaiyan, the head
master of the school to use the computers with supporting activities and to reinforce the children in their
teaching learning process.
This ten day computer training programme conferred instigated the HM to buy computer for the school
in which the contribution of the VEC initially .Now, the school is having 12 computers for strength of 71
children. Also, a 3 in 1 digital printer cum scanner and photocopy machine in the school and teaching by
peer groups is accomplished with the help of the Interactive White Board, an advanced technology used
in the teaching-learning process, which stands as a proof of real innovation in the school. Children
prepare powerpoint slides for their teaching which is facilitated by the teachers.
As a part, the drop out children get reduced and the interest of the children in learning through
computers has brought them to schools. Also the Children with special needs get involved in the process
of learning.
The HM of the school and the teacher says “We feel proud
to say that the Smart Class is implemented successfully
in our school and our children are always ahead in the
learning process because of the 10 days training we
underwent by SSA”.
“The computers and training provided by SSA has
proved as constructive” and as a result few other
schools across Pudukkottai district also initiated the
real innovation in their schools.
