Notices to Students

Admission to J. Enrolments for courses for the session 1970/71 will not beCourses&: effected before September 1st. 1970. but applications forEnrolment admission should be made before that date if possible.

2. In the session 1970/71 the latest date for admission ofstudents to classes commencing in the first term is October 16th,1970. Only in exceptional circumstances will applicants bead mitted after that date.3. Before acceptance of an application for admission to classesor courses, the applicant must attend in person for interviewand the College must be satisfied as to his ability to benefit fromthe proposed classes or courses. Approval in this respect mustbe endorsed on the enrolment form by the Principal. Vice­Principal, appropriate Head of Department or the teacherdesignated for the purpose. The College normally requires anapplicant to submit to and pass an entrance test and/or a suit­ability test before admitting him to any class or course.4. Fees must be paid in full on enrolment. Only in special cir­cumstances will payment by term be permitted. Students whosefees are to be paid by their employers should obtain from theCollege Office a guarantee form for signature by their employerand this must be presented before enrolment can be completed.5. The sole proof of enrolment in any class or course in theCollege is the Official Receipt for the class or course fees paid.The Official Receipt must be shown to the class teacher on firstattendance at each class of the course. Teachers are authorisedto refuse admission to classes of students who do not show theirOfficial Receipt.6. Fees are not refundable except where a class or course doesnot form.7. On first enrolment all new students will be issued with anIdentity Card. For this purpose and for the Colege recordsstudents must provide, at their own expense. two copies of arecent photograph (not returnable) of passport type and size.Students who were enrolled in the College in Session 1967/68,1968/69, or 1969/70, must present the Identity Card previouslyissued to them for re-endorsement for the new session. WhereIdentity Cards have been lost or are no longer usable, two copiesof a recent photograph must again be provided as in the case offirst enrolment, The Identity Card is the property of the Collegeand may be demanded by the College or its officers at any time.Students are therefore required to carry their Identity Cardswith them while in the College or whenever they may berequired to identify themselves as students of the College.

8. Change of address or place of employment should bereported to the College Office immediately.9. The Vocational Education Committee may change any or allof the syllabus, the day and time of any class and may cancelclasses where the enrolment or attendance is consideredinadequate. If for some urgent reason a teacher cannot attend.classes may be cancelled without notice.10. No exchange of classes may be made after enrolment with­oUt the written consent of the Principal on the recommendationof the Head of Department.J. The Vocational Education Committee may expel any studentwithout refund of fees. for irregular or unpunctual attendanceor for any other reason which, in the opinion of the CollegeCouncil, justifies expulsion. Three successive absences from anyclass may lead to suspension from the entire course. unless asatisfactory written explanation is submitted to the Principal.2. Students must provide themselves with such books. instru­ments and equipment (including special clothing) as theirclasses may, in the opinion of the College, require. In particular,protective clothing must be worn by all students using theChemistry or Biology Laboratories or the College Workshops.3. Students are required to keep such notebooks and recordsbooks. and to undertake and submit regularly such homeworkas may be prescribed by members of the teaching staff. Un­reasonable failure in this respect may lead to transfer to alower grade or expulsion.J. Students preparing for examinations of external bodies arestrongly advised to acquaint themselves with the current Regula­tions of these bodies. Insofar as it is possible the College willadvise and assist students regarding the procedure they shouldadopt in respect of the bodies with which they are concerned.2. The College is a recognised centre for many externalexaminations, including the General Certificate of Education.Where students are in doubt regarding examination arrange­ments they should consult the appropriate Head of Departmentor the College Secretary/Registrar.3. Internal examinations may be set by the College at the endof any year. or at any other point of any course, whether or notexternal examinations are undertaken at the same point.4. Progress from one year of a course to the next will be per­mitted only to students whom the College deems to have satis­factorily completed the earlier year and passed the requiredexternal and/or internal examinations.

5. Each student on a whole-time course leading to the awardof a Diploma of the College must make application to sit theappropriate Summer examination in April of each year, and paythe appropriate examination fee, where applicable, when makingsuch application. Where Supplemental examinations are held asimilar application must be made in July, and a similar fee paidby students who wish to sit the Supplemental examinations.

The examination fees for session 1970/71 are as follows :-

£5 for the final examinations, or any part thereof, on the abovecourses;

£3 for the second year examinations, or any part thereof, on theDiploma Course in Electrical Engineering, Ref. S.E.E.

6. Students on whole-time courses leading to Diplomas of theCollege who do not take their sessional examinations at theSummer sitting will not be permitted to sit the Supplementalexamination, unless the College is satisfied that good andsufficient reason (e.g. serious illness) existed for not taking theSummer sitting.

7. Students of whole-time courses for Diplomas of the Collegeare required to pass the sessional examinations on their courseat the Summer sitting, or, at latest, at the Supplemental sitting(if any) immediately following each year of study. Those whodo not pass at these examination sittings will not normally bere-admitted to the course or permitted to resit the examinationin later years, except with the special permission of the Collegeauthority. Where such special permission is granted it shallextend to the following Summer and/or Supplemental sitting ofthe same examination only.

8. Students should note that a full attendance at classes in allsubjects of their course is expected, and a minimum averageattendance of 75 % in each subject of their course is required.Students who fail to comply with this requirement withoutsatisfactory explanation will be refused permission to sit College

examinations, and endorsement of their entries for externalexaminations will similarly be refused.

General 1. Students must at all times obey the lawful instructions ofteachers and other members of the College staff. Misconduct inthe College or its grounds may lead to suspension or expulsion.All teachers are authorised to enforce immediate disciplinarymeasures in respect of students whom they find violating theregulations of the College or otherwise misconducting them­selves.

2. Students are liable for the cost of repair or replacement ofCollege property damaged by them.

3. Students are not permitted to smoke in the College Class­rooms, Laboratories, Lecture theatres. workshops. library. gym·nasium, swimming pool or changing rooms.

4. Students are not permitted to bring overcoats. etc., into theCollege classrooms. laboratories, lecture theatres. workshops,gymnasium or library. Locker accommodation is available for aconsiderable number of students on payment of a fee of 5/- persession. This includes a deposit of 2/-. returnable only if thelocker key is surrendered within seven days of the expiry of theperiod for which the locker has been granted.

Day classes will normally be held from 9 a.m. to 12.30 p.m.and 2 p.m. to 5 p.m. each weekday except Saturday unlessspecial arrangements are made in specific cases.

Evening Classes will normally be held from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.except where shown otherwise.

Office Hours: The Office will be open for enrolment ofstudents from 9.30 a.m. to 12 noon, and 2 p.m. to 4 p.m.,Monday to Friday, and at special periods of the year attimes which will be posted on the Notice Board.

Enrolment subsequent to 16th October, 1970, may be madeonly on the Authority of the Principal.

Interviews with the Principal can be arranged only byappointment.

Except during enrolment periods, members of the teachingstaff will not be available for interviews except at timeswhich will be indicated on application to the College Office.
