Introduction

This release guide documents Release 8.6 of the Banner® Student System. Release 8.6 is a cumulative rollup of all releases and patches delivered since the Banner Student 8.5 release. This release also contains database changes required to support the following releases:

• Banner Student Registration 9.0 Controlled Release I

• Banner Student Registration Self-Service 9.0 Controlled Release I

• Banner Student Overall 9.0 Controlled Release I

Enhancements for 8.6

This document describes the following enhancements, which are new for Release 8.6.

Database changes for use with Banner Student Registration 9.0

Database changes are delivered that are used with Banner Student Registration 9.0, including SQL objects and seed data.

SSS_SEARCH Regulatory Updates for 2013-2014

The regulatory updates for SSS_SEARCH data load for 2013-2014 include new fields, adjusted file layout positions, and an obsolete field.

• The MAJR_PSAT field name on STVTPFD is no longer used, and the description has been updated.

• The PSATMAJOR rule label on SAAERUL is no longer used, and the description has been updated.

• New field names have been added to SRATPFD for ADDITIONAL_ID, STREET_LINE2, and STREET_LINE3. The MAJR_PSAT field has been removed.

Cumulative Documentation

This document provides detailed information about the Banner Student 8.6 release only. Banner Student 8.6 is a cumulative release that also includes enhancements, regulatory updates, ideas, and change request resolutions delivered in the Banner Student releases since 8.5. For complete documentation about these interim releases, please refer to the release guides identified in the table that follows.

1 SSS_SEARCH Regulatory Updates for 2013-2014

The regulatory updates for SSS_SEARCH data load for 2013-2014 include new fields, adjusted file layout positions, and an obsolete field.

• The MAJR_PSAT field name on STVTPFD is no longer used, and the description has been updated to indicate this.

• The PSATMAJOR rule label on SAAERUL is no longer used, and the description has been updated to indicate this.

• New field names have been added to SRATPFD for ADDITIONAL_ID, STREET_LINE2, and STREET_LINE3.

• The MAJR_PSAT field has been removed from SRATPFD.

Update scripts are delivered for these changes.

NoteAny custom rules used for MAJR_PSAT are not updated with this release. You must update them manually.

WarningIt is important to remember that all prior year processing must be completed before these changes are applied. These changes will only process the new SSS_SEARCH layout for the 2013-2014 reporting year. Contact the College Board for detailed information at the following Website:

PSAT Major

The PSAT Major data element is now obsolete with the 2013 SSS_SEARCH data load regulatory updates. The PSAT Major data element is not being removed from the Banner database. Neither is any setup data that applies to this element. No changes are being made to the Tape Code Conversion Form (SOTCNVT).

Changed values

Field name values have been changed on the following forms.

Tape Field Names Validation Form (STVTPFD)

The MAJR_PSAT field name is no longer used with SSS_SEARCH. The field name value remains on STVTPFD, but the description of PSAT Major Code has been modified to indicate that it is obsolete.

The stvtpfdu_08050802.sql script updates the description for MAJR_PSAT.

Tape Field Position Rule Form (SRATPFD)

Three fields names have been added to SRATPFD for the Tape Code of SSS_SEARCH.

One field name has been removed from SRATPFD for the Tape Code of SSS_SEARCH.

The srttpfdi_08050802.sql script adds the new field names to the file layout, removes the obsolete field name, and adjusts the start and end positions for the remaining fields.

Electronic Admissions Application Form (SAAERUL)

The PSATMAJOR rule label for the Group Code of PREL is no longer used with SSS_SEARCH. The rule label remains on SAAERUL, but the description of Load the PSAT Major First has been modified to indicate that the rule label is obsolete.

SQL objects for Class Search Keyword

Here is a list of the SQL objects created for the new Banner XE Class Search Keyword functionindex is an Oracle Text index, and the triggers and packages support creation of the content.
