1. Counseling / Mentoring: The vibrant campus ministry programme takes care of the personality development of the students, promotes a God-orientation among them, provides personal counseling, organizes group activities and student clubs, ensures the social involvement of students, and co-ordinates with the placement cell to groom them for their future careers. The mentoring system of the college ensures that each student is placed under a mentor, who guides him/her in both personal and academic activities.
2. Career Counseling: A dedicated placement cell is working towards recognizing and developing the core
competencies and enhancing interpersonal and communication skills of every student. The cell promotes industry-institute interaction by arranging industry visits, technical and career seminars. This provides a platform for budding engineers to interact with professionals from various industries. The national and international linkages of Assam Don Bosco University and its curriculum which is designed to meet the changing demands of the industry gives its students an advantage in the employment market.
3. Medical facilities: A qualified nurse is on duty during college hours for first aid and emergency care. In serious
cases an ambulance stationed at the college will take affected persons for professional medical treatment. Annual medical camps provide free eye, dental, ENT and general checkups. Lifestyle management and life savers’ programme are conducted annually. Individual health records are maintained.
4. Students Activity Body: An innovative venture of the College is the College Cultural activities Association. Its
members represent the various Sports activities stake-holders of the college – students, staff, faculty and management. The association endeavours to take advantage of every opportunity to create an environment that nurtures life in its fullness for every member of the college community and set it on the path to excellence. It takes charge of organizing most of the co- curricular activities such as annual college festival, quizzes, debates, competitions and social events – welcomes, farewells, etc.
5. Literary activities: The College publishes an annual journal called “Creazone”. It is a Magazine / Newsletter provides a forum for expressing the technical and creative abilities of the students of the college. A quarterly newsletter called “Spark” keeps the student community and well-wishers informed of the happenings in the college. A monthly leaflet called “Carpe Diem” provides inspirational reading material for the college community. A weekly online electronic mail service provides professional enhancement services to the faculty.
6. ERP: An ERP (Enterprise Resource Planning) implementation has ensured that all processes within the university are computerized and information readily accessible to authorised users (administrators, faculty, students and parents). Right from the application stage up to the time one leaves the college one can monitor one’s progress and access one’s records from the ERP system.
7. High Speed Internet Connectivity : Don Bosco University enjoys a high speed 1Gbps internet & Link to National Knowledge Network (NKN) coming under the NKN network. This massive bandwidth links the university to the NKN network of institutions, providing access to a large number of libraries, on-line lectures, archived lectures of various IITs, virtual classrooms and many more facilities available under NKN.
8. Project Based Learning: Mini and major practical projects are included in the curriculum of BTECH, MTECH and MCA students to inculcate the habit of working with circuits, set-ups, software, models, etc. Students’ progress in the projects is monitored by the faculty members by conducting seminars/presentations at regular intervals. Outstanding performance of our students in the national level competitions organized by various prestigious institutions bear witness to the effectiveness of our methods.
9. Training and Placement Activities: The training and Placement Cell of DBCET has been incorporated with the objective of minimizing the gap between industry and academia and giving the students training and exposure so that they can capitalize on every opportunity for placement. It is the prime responsibility of the cell to look after all matters concerning ‘Training to enhance employability and guiding students for placement’. In the first two semesters, students are trained for communication skills development under the department of Humanities and Social Sciences, and personal development programmes under the department of campus ministry. From the third semester onwards, in every semester, students are given systematic training in aptitude tests, communication skills, group discussion, etc. They are also made to undergo mock HR and Technical Interviews. These activities of the training and placement cell find a place in the curriculum as Extra Academic Programmes (EAP) and all students are required to get a P grade for these activities by taking active part in these activities regularly.
10. Morning Assembly: The morning assembly is a daily programme in Don Bosco College of Technology, on all class days during which all members, i.e., students, faculty, staff and management meet together. The assembly starts at 9:00 am. During the assembly, important announcements are made and a thought or insight is shared. The assembly is concluded with an invocation to God to bless the activities of the day. Note that any announcement made at the morning assembly is considered as being equivalent to notifying the same in the notice boards. All students should reach the assembly venue before 9:00 am. Immediately after assembly all should proceed to the classroom to start class at 9:10 am. Any change in procedures will be notified by the concerned School at the beginning of the Semester.
11. Interaction Meet With Parents: The College, organises interaction meetings with parents once a year in which
the parents are invited to interact with teachers and management to appraise themselves about the performance of their ward and also to offer their suggestions for the betterment of the institution. It is the responsibility of the students too to invite their parents to come and participate in the event and make the event meaningful.
12. Introduction of Honours / Minor Scheme for B.Tech: Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology has taken
initiative to implement the provision of Honours and Minor scheme for the B.Tech students of all the departments as per provision of AICTE’s Model Curriculum – 2018. For honours, students will have to earn 18 – 20 credits by completing requisite number of courses in a specialized / emerging area of the parent department over and above
the mandatory 160 credits for general B.Tech degree. On the other hand, for minor, students will undergo additional 18-20 credits from some other engineering department. For both of these, students will undergo courses suggested by the department and shall be under the supervision of a faculty mentor. The courses may be designed and taught by the department, may be taken from MOOCs (e.g., SWAYAM / NPTEL) archive or from active MOOCs with certification. A Departmental Committee constituted to monitor the actual implementation will keep track of the progress regularly and shall decide on the credit transfer formalities. The Examination department will mention the credits earned by the students in the Grade Sheet of the semester in which the courses are completed and credits are awarded.
13. Introduction of Value Added Courses: After implementation of the new curriculum following the AICTE Model Curriculum- 2018, the faculty members of the department have studied if there could be necessity of introducing some courses in order to fill-up the knowledge gap because of the new curriculum. Special emphasis has also been given towards attainment of “Program Objectives (Pos)” defined already as per requirement of Outcome Based Education. Such courses are proposed as “Value Added Courses”. Departmental Board of Studies (DBOS) of every department has deliberated on these proposals and has incorporated these courses for teaching by the department with or without collaboration with some external agencies having relevant expertise.
All these courses would be of 30 hours duration. These courses will be optional for the students to choose and will not be mentioned in the Grade Sheet. Instead, concerned department will provide a “Completion Certificate”.
14. SWASTYAYAN... A Commitment
A social commitment project of the University facilitated by the students of the departments of Social Work and Engineering & Technology - “Swastyayan... a commitment”. With tutorials in subjects like Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences and English in the evening, the project reaches out to the high school students of Azara Gaon Panchayat. Further, they are encouraged to participate in a series of sessions on goal setting, time management, life-skills development, spoken English tutorials, games and sports that are intended to enthuse and enhance their personality and self-esteem. Initiated and successfully run by the students of the Social Work Department, over a hundred students and teachers from the School of Engineering participate as volunteers to teach, motivate, encourage and inspire the needy children from the neighborhood- Discover the goodness within you - share it with the world around you!
15. SWABHALAMBAN – Skill Training For Local Youth Don Bosco College of Engineering and Technology, a constituent unit of Assam Don Bosco University The School of Technology , conducts an inter-departmental social commitment program of training educated unemployed youth in the neighborhood on livelihood support skills. The faculty, staff and students train unemployed youths of the area in batches in electrical house wiring, inverter making and installation, construction skills and cement plastering. Electronics & Communication Engineering (ECE) trains them on assembling simple inverters, their installation and maintenance. Electrical & Electronics Engineering (EEE) teaches electrical house wiring, Civil Engineering Department teaches them Construction Skills and Cement Plastering, and Social Work Department helps in mobilising and disseminating information to the villages, selecting the trainees and following up on the post training activities.
