The Supervisory Board Word

In the name of Allah, Most Gracious, Most Merciful and,

May the peace and blessings of Allah be upon Mohammad, the greatest of all prophets.

The sculpting of a human’s brainpower, emotions and conduct is a mandate in our civilized world.

Based on this very concept Al- Ruya Bilingual School was established in 1996. Thanks be to Allah who

enabled the school’s owners, teachers and administrators to work as a unified team in order to

achieve a great goal which is producing a civilized human being. One who implants goodness and who

is productive and useful wherever he settles and wherever he travels. Accordingly, and for all the

previous reasons, RBS did seek and obtain the accreditation of the Council of International Schools

(CIS) in 2008, and to renew it in 2012 and in 2017.

RBS’ higher administration makes sure that its staffs which are highly competent and experienced

having been recruited from various parts of the world. Staff are capable of applying the newest

educational methodologies, with the target being a graduate who is updated about the latest

scientific developments. The school also makes sure that its teachers, administrators and students

are pointed out for their high morals and good values, as we believe that these are the foundations of

any valuable and constructive knowledge.

Finally, thanks be to Allah, that our graduates are well recognized by most universities, inside and

outside of Kuwait, and they are also distinguished by their performance when joining the world of

business.

By Allah’s help and the support of the members of the school community, RBS will be able to provide

the highest and best educational services that there can be to its students. We believe that

distinguished teachers and a distinguished administration can, by Allah’s wish, produce and shape

distinguished students. We also believe that in order for any team to be successful, its members

should collaborate and integrate their efforts, adopting the following Hadiths: “Everyone is employed

to what he was created for” and “Allah’s hand is with the group”.

In closure, all that we do in RBS is sprouted from the wisdom of this aya: “Indeed, Allah only accepts

from the righteous [who fear Him]”

A Word from RBS Director In the name of Allah, and thanks be to Him for all of His uncountable and numerous gifts, and I testify that Allah is the only God, and that Mohammad is His prophet. On behalf of the school’s Administration, I would like to welcome you to Al-Ru’ya Bilingual School (RBS) and wish you a successful year. RBS was founded in 1996, and after twelve years of delivering the best bilingual education that can be to the local community, it was recognized and accredited by the Council of International Schools; in 2008, and to renew it in 2012 and 2017. RBS is a bilingual school. Its curriculum is delivered in two languages; Arabic and English, throughout the school levels; K-12. RBS is distinguished by its pastoral program “Ruya Tarbawiay” which is a behavioral and educational curriculum derived from the Islamic values and concepts that are based on scientific knowledge. The school’s second distinction lies in the fact that it teaches the Quran and the science of tajweed and concepts of tawheed. By that, RBS was the first sole bilingual and Islamic school in Kuwait. Based on the school’s policy and goals to always progress and develop performance, the school is on a constant search for recruiting the best administrators and teachers. The new staffs’ expertise will add to the valuable efforts of the current staff and they will both work as a cooperative and integrated team. Thus, I would like to welcome the newly hired teachers and wish them the best, and thank the teachers of RBS who proved to serve the school with loyalty and devotion, hoping that both teams will join efforts for the benefit of our students. One of the school’s goals is to improve the teaching-learning process by utilizing differentiated instruction and the multiple-intelligences theories. Our aim is to transfer from teacher-centered learning to student-centered learning and to create a more flexible and stimulating learning environment that enhances the students’ decision-making and problem-solving skills. We hope we can join hearts and efforts to best serve our students, the community, Islam and the Islamic nation. Please do not hesitate to communicate your concerns and inquiries to me. 4.HIGH SCHOOL: ACADEMIC INFORMATION

4..1 Graduation Requirements:

1) Graduation requirements are divided into compulsory core subjects (Major), and various elective subjects (Minor). To earn the RBS High School Diploma, a student must achieve a record of regular attendance (from Gr.9 - Gr.12).

2) The student must complete the required credits throughout the study of major subjects provided by school. Each subject is equivalent to a specific number of credits, some of the minor subjects are equivalent to (0.5 or 0.25) credit. These requirements will qualify students to gain acceptance into various universities in Kuwait and world-wide.

20 MS-HS Parent Handbook –2021-2022 Updated 3/16/2021

3) To specialize in engineering, medicine, or science colleges in Kuwait University, the student must complete (4) credits in Science to Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

(4) credits in Mathematics to include Algebra II and Pre-calculus.

4..2 High School - Counseling and Guidance:

• In Grade 9, specialists explain the grading system for students and the school system at the secondary level.

• In Grade 10, the school provides specialized staff to explain the difference between the Scientific and International branches and offer academic guidance to students to help them decide on the branch they should join, according to the field they want to major in.

• In Grades 11 and 12, the counselor guides students on how to apply for admission to universities and how to handle university preparatory tests based on the field they wish to specialize in.

• Students are responsible for registering for any required standardized tests.

4..3 High School - Credit Computation System:

The school credit computation system is in place. In high school (G9-G12), each subject

is designated a number of specific credits based on the number of weekly scheduled

periods as follows:

Credits per Subject

➢ Subjects of 5 periods or more per week are considered 1.0 credit subjects.

➢ Subjects of 2,3 or 4 periods per week are considered 0.5 credit subjects.

➢ Subjects of 1 period per week are considered 0.25 credit subjects.

4..4 Grading & Points Computation System for HS:

Grades are allotted using a letter grade & point system for Grades (9-12) as follows:

Percentage Letter Grade GPA (points)

97-100 A+ 4

93-96 A 4

90-92 A- 3.7

87-89 B+ 3.3

83-86 B 3

21 MS-HS Parent Handbook –2021-2022 Updated 3/16/2021

4..5

Computation of points:

The final points of letter grades are computed by multiplying them by subject credits, then

dividing the total points of all subjects over the sum of the subjects' credits.

Example:

Earning the grade of "A" in a subject at the end of the year is equivalent to (4) points in a (1)

credit subject. So, the actual number of points that the student has earned in this subject

are: 4 x 1 = 4 points.

If the student got an (A) in a (0.5) credit subject, the actual result will be: 4 x0.5 =2 points.

If the student got an (A) in a (0.25) credit subject, the actual result will be:4 x 0.25 = 1point.

Annual Average:

The following chart is an example of computing the annual percentage of a student, based on the final result earned at the end of the academic year:

80-82 B- 2.7

77-79 C+ 2.3

73-76 C 2.0

Example: If a student earned a GPA of (3.21) points, his/her marks will be computed as follows:

(3.21 + 1) x 20 = 84.2 %.

4..6 University Preparatory Test

Level Tests:

R.B.S. takes upon itself the responsibility of preparing its graduating students to meet the

challenges of higher education. In addition to the graduation requirements, the school

assists students to undertake ability tests in English, Arabic, mathematics and chemistry

conducted by Kuwait University, and students must perform all or some of them based on

the requirements of the college they chose to apply for. These results will be used to

calculate an equivalent mark that will be considered for acceptance into the different

colleges.

Students are required to undertake standardized tests for college admissions inside and

outside of Kuwait. Such tests are the TOEFEL, IELTS, SAT1 and SAT2, which are required for

college admission by many colleges and universities of the world.

4..7 Evaluation System for MS and HS:

The policy of the school adopts a system of continuous evaluation throughout the year.

Students receive four reports cards; one at the end of each quarter.

1. Daily work: It is the sum of a continuous evaluation during the semester to include student activities, both inside and outside the class; project preparation, research and reports, as well as oral and written tests and practical applications.

2. Quizzes: Quizzes are short assessments that offer students the opportunity to evaluate their understanding of the content before more inclusive assessments such as tests and examinations.

3. Tests: Students write an average of two tests a quarter in order to demonstrate a strong grasp of the material taught in the quarter.

4. Examinations: Examinations take place twice a year. Following the second quarter, are the midterm exams which are worth 30% of the semester grade. After the conclusion of the fourth quarter, the final exams take place and they are worth 30 % of the second semester.

24 MS-HS Parent Handbook –2021-2022 Updated 3/16/2021

• Maximum mark in all subjects is 100%, and the minimum for passing is 60%.

• The final 1st semester exam covers material given in the first semester, and

the final 2nd semester exam covers material given in the second semester

only.

• Nevertheless, in some subjects like Math or some areas like grammar, some

concepts that are taught in the second semester might be based on concepts

given in the first semester. Thus, the second semester exam will also include

these.

4..8 Progress Reports

• Given to weak students who need extra support in some skills.

• Can be viewed online twice a year during the middle of the 1st and 3rd quarter.

4..9 MS/HS Make-up Tests – during the quarters

• Absent students with legitimate excuse will have the chance to be assessed.

• Make-up tests are given once a week or as required. Usually, tests are given on Thursdays, after school, and quizzes are given during the recess on a normal school day. Students can do their make-up tests provided that they do not exceed two tests in a day.

• Students have only two opportunities to make up a missed test.

4..10 MS/HS Make-Up Exam – Mid Term and Final

• If a student is legitimately absent during the Mid Term or Final Exam for one or more subjects, she/he can make it up immediately the week after the exams.

• If a student is illegitimately absent, the grade of the Mid Term or Final Semester Exam will automatically be zero. Nevertheless, the earned grades during the semester will be counted.

4..11 Middle/High School Rules and Regulations for Semester Exams:

• Students should arrive to school early.

• Students should be prepared for the exam and have all their materials and stationery with them.

• Any student coming after 8:00 am will not be allowed to enter and may sit the make-up exam. Lost time will not be compensated.

• Students are not allowed to go out of the examination hall while the exam is still in session.

• Any attempt to communicate with other students (talking, gesturing, exchanging items/notes, looking at their paper or using any electronic equipment, such as calculators unless permitted by the HoD, diaries, mobiles) is considered active cheating.

• Students are not allowed to bring in textbooks, notebooks or any other related materials to the examination hall; everything should be kept outside.

6. Academic Policies:

6..1 Academic Monitoring

Teachers monitor and measure the academic growth and development of all students on a

continuous basis. At the end of each quarter, all teachers review students’ academic

progress to ensure that positive academic growth is taking place.

Should the teacher identify weaknesses in a student, s/he must refer the case to the HOD,

who in consultation with the teacher and counselor will review the case and create a

development plan for the student.

This plan includes but is not limited to recommendations to help improve the student in the

weak areas within a time frame during which the student’s progress will be carefully

monitored. The student will then be placed on academic monitoring for the following

quarter.

28 MS-HS Parent Handbook –2021-2022 Updated 3/16/2021

9..3 Students Leaving School Grounds (due to private reasons)

RBS was built on the safety standards of Kuwait Fire Service Directorate and its safety and security measures are approved by it, as we strive to make the school a safe environment for the students and staff. The parent will have to come to school, contact the school, or send a written message to the Principal or the Vice-principal in order to pull out his/her child from the school during the school day. The leaving-campus form must be signed, which means that the parent takes complete responsibility for his/her child absence and for what is missed from lessons and tests/exams. If the parent repeatedly pulled his/her child out of the school during the day, without submitting a legitimate doctor or an appointment paper; then the school has the right to consider the student’s absence from school as an illegitimate absence, which means

that the student is may not to make up any missed work and tests/exams. The school

reserves the right to deal with cases on an individual basis. The school is not responsible for re-explaining missed lessons or re-giving missed exams/tests and, the student’s registration in the school for next year will be re-considered.

9..4 Telephone Use

Permission to use phones must be granted by the administration team.

10. Emergency Procedures Fire, safe-haven and shelter-in-place drills

The school has set a plan for three kinds of emergencies to ensure a safe school

environment for students and staff. Evacuation plans, safe-haven plan and fire drills plans.

These drills are performed during the year in order for students and staff to be prepared to

face any unforeseen danger.

11. Other Information

11..1 Parent and Visitor Guidelines
