NPR Interview about Rick Doble's work with static on TV screensOn June 13, 2009 NPR (National Public
Radio) aired this interview with Rick Doble on All Things Considered. This interview was about Doble's work with static on an analogue TV screen and the artwork that he made from that.

Static From the Big Bang
It is a scientific fact that some of the static on an analogue TV is from the Big Bang explosion that created the Universe -- i.e., static produced by the CMB or CMBR (cosmic microwave background radiation) or the echo from the Big Bang. This fact was mentioned in the interview with NPR.
The photographs here were taken to enhance that static. Using special equipment I tuned the TV to a frequency where much of the CMBR can be found and then worked to filter out normal static from man-made sources. The following pictures are the result -- static which looks organic and not man-made.
These pictures are arranged so you see a progression of images, starting with the
initial raw photograph from a TV screen to enlarged processed images derived
from that initial TV photo.Note: While the original photo seems to be
only black & white, many colors were embedded in the static on this analogue
color TV. I then enhanced the static using a variety of methods. Generally I did not colorize the static (use false colors) but
instead exaggerated the color that was already there.
