THE COLLEGE CREST
In her book ‘Memory Plays a Tune’, Miss Eleanor Rivett, Principal of Women’s Christian College from 1938 to 1947, quotes Dr Daniel Robinson Fleming’s comment on our College Crest. The little earthenware Indian lamp signifies the College motto “Lighted to Lighten”. From such a lamp, with its flame of fire constantly renewed by the sacrifice of the oil poured in, its need of shelter from the wind, its flame kindled afresh every evening from a source of light, comes the suggestion of a life, spending itself to transform itself into service, flickering but not failing in the midst of temptation, existing only to give.
The College flower is the Sunflower, chosen because it always turns its face towards the Sun, suggesting that we should ever turn to the Sun of Righteousness. The Sunflower is chosen also because it is a composite, thus symbolizing a group such as a college community, and because it grows readily in all three lands associated with the College, India, the United Kingdom and America. Still further, the Sunflower embodies the College colours – green representing India’s palms and paddy fields; brown, her sun burnt soil and gold, the flame of the College lamp.

A PRAYER FOR OUR COLLEGE
Take this College into Thy hands, Lord of the Heavenly Kingdom. Make it a place after Thine own heart, a good place, where the good life is lived and the good fight is fought by us all. Give us health, joy in our work, faithfulness in our duty, love and understanding one toward another. Help us to live, help us to grow, and in Thy name we ask it, Lord Almighty.
Amen

New beginnings are exciting and offer refreshing vistas & adventures. In a world emerging from the grip of the Covid pandemic, strategies have changed but the focus of a “meaningful and relevant education” remains. As Isaiah 61:2 says this is the year of the Lord’s favour and He will give us “a double portion” and bless us as we embark on this journey to attain new peaks and victories.

ALMA MATER
From this our land and far across the ocean Thy daughters’ voices rise in praise to thee, Our College fair, our faithful Alma Mater, O may we love thee more from year to year!
God be with thee, our College, God protect thee, His light shine on thee- this our fervent prayer.
Beneath thy trees and columns tall, majestic, Wisdom and knowledge thou dost give to all. Leaving thy portals, we go forth desiring, Lighted to lighten; bravely on we go.
God be with thee, our College, God protect thee, His light shine through thee-now and evermore.
THE COLLEGE SONGS
Song #1
1. There is a College nobly planned Founded to help our motherland; This is our purpose great and high, And we will love her till we die.
2. Study and friendship, Prayer and Play These occupy our College day, Training of body, soul and mind, All in our College surely find.
3. Lighted to lighten, we proclaim, Service to India as our aim, So let our lamps be filled and trimmed, To bear our light to all undimmed.
144
Song #2
For frolic and reunion now With gladsome hearts we greet you, Friendly faces old and new Are waiting here to meet you.
Chorus
The watching world is simply cowed by our display of knowledge O! Can any of this learned crowd Forget our dear Old College? No!
1. Our Principal she is wise and fair In her praise we never tire Come raise your cheer and fill the air For Dr. Lilian Jasper
2. Our Senior Student known to fame The best she stands before us Kezia James is her name Her praise we sing in Chorus.
Song #3To graduates the next in line In the chain that binds us fast Each student of the present To each student of the past We sing in happy greeting Of our purpose strong and true Of the loyalty of W.C.C We sing graduates to you We sing graduates to you.
145
Song #41. From year to year a chain is wrought
That shall never ending be Each class a link that binds the past To future days we cannot see. We march ahead with vision clear Thinking Alma Mater of thee To forge a link and find our place In the Chain of Unity.
2. Though strong the chain and welded firm By the classes of the past They look to us to do our part. To make its power of binding last So ever forward let us march From all selfish purpose free That ours may be the strongest link In the Chain of Unity.
1Bless the Lord oh my soul, Oh my soul Worship His Holy name Sing like never before, Oh my soul I’ll worship Your Holy name
The sun comes up, It’s a new day dawning It’s time to sing Your song again Whatever may pass, And whatever lies before me, Let me be singing, When the evening comes Bless the Lord oh my soul …..
You’re rich in love, And You’re slow to anger Your name is great, And Your heart is kind
146
For all Your goodness, I will keep on singing Ten thousand reasons, For my heart to find Bless the Lord oh my soul ….
Jonas Myrin& Matt Redman, 2012
2In Christ alone my hope is found He is my light, my strength, my song This Cornerstone, this solid ground Firm through the fiercest drought and storm What heights of love, what depths of peace When fears are stilled, when strivings cease My Comforter, my All in All Here in the love of Christ I stand
In Christ alone, who took on flesh Fullness of God in helpless babe This gift of love and righteousness Scorned by the ones He came to save ‘Till on that cross as Jesus died The wrath of God was satisfied For every sin on Him was laid Here in the death of Christ I live
There in the ground His body lay Light of the world by darkness slain Then bursting forth in glorious Day Up from the grave He rose again And as He stands in victory Sin’s curse has lost its grip on me For I am His and He is mine Bought with the precious blood of Christ
147
No guilt in life, no fear in death This is the power of Christ in me From life’s first cry to final breath Jesus commands my destiny No power of hell, no scheme of man Can ever pluck me from His hand ‘Till He returns or calls me home Here in the power of Christ I’ll stand
Stuart Townend, 2001
3God will make a way Where there seems to be no way He works in ways we cannot see He will make a way for me
He will be my guide Hold me closely to His side With love and strength for each new day He will make a way, He will make a way
Oh, God will make a way …..
By a roadway in the wilderness, He’ll lead me And rivers in the desert will I see Heaven and Earth will fade but His Word will still remain And He will do something new today
Oh, God will make a way …..
Don Moen, 2003
4I come before You today And there’s just one thing that I want to say Thank You Lord, Thank You Lord
148
For all You’ve given to me For all the blessings that I cannot see Thank You Lord, Thank You Lord
With a grateful heart, With a song of praise With an outstretched arm, I will bless Your name Thank You Lord, I just wanna thank You Lord Thank You Lord, I just wanna thank You Lord Thank You Lord
For all You’ve done in my life You took my darkness and gave me Your light Thank You Lord, Thank You Lord
You took my sin and my shame You took my sickness and healed all my pain Thank You Lord, Thank You Lord
Don Moen, 2004
5I just keep trusting my Lord as I walk a long I just keep trusting my Lord and He gives me a song Though the storm clouds darken the sky o’er the heavenly trail I just keep trusting my Lord, He will never fail He’s a faithful friend, such a faithful friend I can count on Him to the very end Though the storm clouds darken the sky o’er the heavenly trail I just keep trusting my Lord, He will never fail
John W. Peterson, 1962
6Light of the world, You stepped down into darkness Opened my eyes let me see
149
Beauty that made this heart adore You Hope of my life spent with You
Here I am to worship Here I am to bow down Here I am to say that You are my God You’re altogether lovely, Altogether worthy Altogether wonderful to me
King of all days, Oh so highly exalted Glorious in heaven above Humbly You came to the earth You created All for love’s sake became poor
I’ll never know how much it cost To see my sin upon that cross
Tim Hughes, 2001
7All things bright and beautiful, All creatures great and small, All things wise and wonderful: The Lord God made them all.
Each little flow’r that opens, Each little bird that sings, He made their glowing colors, He made their tiny wings.
The purple-headed mountains, The river running by, The sunset and the morning That brightens up the sky.
The tall trees in the greenwood, The meadows where we play,
150
The rushes by the water, To gather every day.
He gave us eyes to see them, And lips that we might tell How great is God Almighty, Who has made all things well.
Cecil F. Alexander, 1848
8Shepherd of my soul I give You full control Wherever You may lead I will follow I have made the choice to listen for Your voice Wherever You may lead I will go
Shepherd of my soul I give You full control Wherever You may lead I will follow I have made the choice to listen to Your voice Wherever You may lead I will go
Be it in a quiet pasture or by a gentle breeze
The Shepherd of my soul is by my side
Should I face a mighty mountain or a valley dark and deep
The Shepherd of my soul will be my guide
Marty Nystrom, 1988
9Standing on the promises of Christ my King, Through eternal ages let His praises ring, Glory in the highest, I will shout and sing, Standing on the promises of God.
Standing, standing,
151
Standing on the promises of God my Savior; Standing, standing, I’m standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises that cannot fail, When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail, By the living Word of God I shall prevail, Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises of Christ the Lord, Bound to Him eternally by love’s strong cord, Overcoming daily with the Spirit’s sword, Standing on the promises of God.
Standing on the promises I cannot fall, List’ning every moment to the Spirit’s call, Resting in my Savior as my all in all, Standing on the promises of God.
Russell K. Carter, 1886
10Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father; There is no shadow of turning with Thee; Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not; As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.
Great is Thy faithfulness! Great is Thy faithfulness! Morning by morning new mercies I see. All I have needed Thy hand hath provided; Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!
Summer and winter and springtime and harvest, Sun, moon and stars in their courses above Join with all nature in manifold witness
152
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.
Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide; Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow, Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!
Thomas Chisholm, 1923
11Be Thou my Vision, O Lord of my heart; Naught be all else to me, save that Thou art; Thou my best Thought, by day or by night, Waking or sleeping, Thy presence my light.
Be Thou my Wisdom, and Thou my true Word; I ever with Thee and Thou with me, Lord; Thou my great Father, I Thy true son; Thou in me dwelling, and I with Thee one.
Riches I heed not, nor man’s empty praise, Thou mine Inheritance, now and always: Thou and Thou only, first in my heart, High King of Heaven, my Treasure Thou art.
Anonymous, 8th Century Irish Hymn
12Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! Sing, O Earth, His wonderful love proclaim! Hail Him! Hail Him! Highest archangels in glory; Strength and honor give to His holy Name! Like a shepherd, Jesus will guard His children, In His arms He carries them all day long.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Tell of His excellent greatness;
153
Praise Him! Praise Him! Ever in joyful song!
Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! For our sins He suffered, and bled, and died. He our Rock, our hope of eternal salvation, Hail Him! Hail Him! Jesus the Crucified. Sound His praises! Jesus who bore our sorrows, Love unbounded, wonderful, deep and strong.
Praise Him! Praise Him! Jesus, our blessed Redeemer! Heav’nly portals loud with hosannas ring! Jesus, Savior, reigneth forever and ever; Crown Him! Crown Him! Prophet, and Priest, and King! Christ is coming! over the world victorious, Pow’r and glory unto the Lord belong.
Frances J. Crosby, 1869
131. When upon life’s billows you are tempest-tossed,
When you are discouraged, thinking all is lost, Count your many blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
2. Count your blessings, name them one by one, Count your blessings, see what God has done! Count your blessings, name them one by one, And it will surprise you what the Lord has done.
3. Are you ever burdened with a load of care? Does the cross seem heavy you are called to bear? Count your many blessings, every doubt will fly, And you will keep singing as the days go by.
154
4. So, amid the conflict whether great or small, Do not be discouraged, God is over all; Count your many blessings, angels will attend, Help and comfort give you to your journey’s end.
Johnson Oatman, Jr., 1897
141. There shall be showers of blessing:
This is the promise of love; There shall be seasons refreshing, Sent from the Savior above.
Showers of blessing, Showers of blessing we need: Mercy-drops round us are falling, But for the showers we plead.
2. There shall be showers of blessing, Precious reviving again; Over the hills and the valleys, Sound of abundance of rain.
3. There shall be showers of blessing; Send them upon us, O Lord; Grant to us now a refreshing, Come, and now honor Thy Word.
4. There shall be showers of blessing: Oh, that today they might fall, Now as to God we’re confessing, Now as on Jesus we call!
Daniel W. Whittle, 1883
155
15Joyful, joyful, we adore Thee, God of glory, Lord of love; Hearts unfold like flow’rs before Thee, Op’ning to the sun above. Melt the clouds of sin and sadness; Drive the dark of doubt away; Giver of immortal gladness, Fill us with the light of day!
All Thy works with joy surround Thee, Earth and heav’n reflect Thy rays, Stars and angels sing around Thee, Center of unbroken praise. Field and forest, vale and mountain, Flow’ry meadow, flashing sea, Singing bird and flowing fountain Call us to rejoice in Thee.
Thou art giving and forgiving, Ever blessing, ever blest, Wellspring of the joy of living, Ocean depth of happy rest! Thou our Father, Christ our Brother, All who live in love are Thine; Teach us how to love each other, Lift us to the joy divine.
Henry J. van Dyke, 1907
161. Take my life and let it be
Consecrated, Lord, to Thee.
156
Take my moments and my days, Let them flow in endless praise.
Take my hands and let them move At the impulse of Thy love. Take my feet and let them be Swift and beautiful for Thee.
2. Take my voice and let me sing, Always, only for my King. Take my lips and let them be Filled with messages from Thee.
Take my silver and my gold, Not a mite would I withhold. Take my intellect and use Every pow’r as Thou shalt choose.
3. Take my will and make it Thine, It shall be no longer mine. Take my heart, it is Thine own, It shall be Thy royal throne.
4. Take my love, my Lord, I pour At Thy feet its treasure store. Take myself and I will be Ever, only, all for Thee.
Frances R. Havergal, 1874
#1 - Prayer for CollegeTake the College into Thy hands, Lord of the Heavenly Kingdom. Make it a place after Thine own heart, a good place, where the good life is lived and the good fight is fought by us all. Give us health, joy in our work, faithfulness in our duty, love and understanding one

toward another. Help us to live, help us to grow, and in Thy name we ask it, Lord Almighty. Amen.
#2 – The Lord’s PrayerOur Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done in earth, as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
#3 – Apostle’s CreedI believe in God, the Father Almighty, Creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord, who was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried; He descended to hell. The third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended to heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty. From there He will come to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen.
#4 – Psalm 23The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name’s sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy
