    Greetings and welcome to the College of Dentistry, Gulf

    Medical University!

    The College of Dentistry believes that we need to educate

    a dentist who is undamentally dierent in proessional

    capabilities from his/her predecessors. We believe this

    because the world is changing rapidly. We provideeducation to dental students to prepare them to practice

    dentistry in the 21st century with knowledge and

    understanding o many dierent patient populations,

    dental specialties in varied practice settings. GMU

    dentists today are more culturally diverse than ever

    before. And, we hope that the dentists will redress the

    disparities in oral healthcare access that exist in UAE

    and across the world.

    The College presents a dynamic curriculum, which

    provides excellent clinical training, integrates the health

    sciences with clinical experience, and utilizes modern

    DMDPROGRAM

    INTRODUCTION

    The DMD program will educate students to become

    competent dentists with undamental knowledge in

    biomedical and behavioral sciences. Graduates will be

    dedicated to serve the communities and will practice

    dentistry with the highest level o ethical and moral

    standards. The curriculum will ocus and emphasize

    on the importance o research and encourage student

    participation in research activities. This program is

    tailored to meet the needs o the dental students in the

    region.

    DMD PROGRAM

    Goals, outcomes, eectiveness and curriculum practice,

    prepare a generation o general dental practitioners with

    clinical competency; produce graduates who possess

    the knowledge, skills and values to begin the practice

    of general dentistry serving citizens in UAE or any other

    geographic location o their practice.

    GOALS:

    Maintain a high standard of dental education,

    research and services.

    Produce competent, condent and high employable

    dentists. Widening access to higher education by

    producing highly competent graduates that are

    capable o carrying out postgraduate studies at local

    and international universities.

    Enable graduates to develop their capacity to learn

    and to become independent learners. Provide broad

    based scientically strong education in dentistry

    that equips the graduates to enter all areas o the

    proession and to adapt to changes that may occur

    during their proessional lie.

    Produce graduates who are able to communicate and

    deliver dental care both in community and hospitalsettings.

    Ensure that students acquire clear understanding of

    their proessional and ethical responsibilities towards

    their communities and humanity at large.

    Participating in the process of improving and

    implementing oral health care in UAE in cooperation

    with public and private sectors.

    Cooperating with local and international dental

    education and research centers in the eld o research

    in order to enhance scientic knowledge in oral

    medicine and dental health care.

    Participating in local and international scientic

    meetings.

    CURRICULUM:

    The DMD program is a ve-year program (10 semesters).

    The rst two years o the curriculum are designed

    to educate students in biomedical and behavioral

    sciences. During the third and fourth year, students

    will concentrate on preclinical dental science courses

    ollowed by dental clinical courses providing a valuable

    clinical experience.

    Comprehensive patient care is taught in the fth year

    with special considerations to management o the

    medically compromised patients. These clinical training

    sessions are carried out under the strict supervisionof qualied faculty members. Students who fulll the

    graduation requirements and successully demonstrate

    the achievement o competencies will be awarded the

    degree of Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD).

    UNDERGRADUATE ADMISSIONS

    All applicants shall meet all admission criteria as laid

    down in the Standards published by the Commission

    for Academic Accreditation, Ministry of Higher

    Education and Scientic Research, UAE and listed

    below:

    The applicant must have completed a minimum of 12

    years o education in school and passed courses in

    Physics, Chemistry and Biology in Higher Secondary

    School.

    Students who complete their secondary school

    education as per UK curriculum must have completed

    at least two of the three science subjects (Physics,

    Chemistry, Biology) in AS levels or A levels provided

    they have passed in all the three subjects in their O

    levels. The minimum grade required is C or D in

    AS or A level in Chemistry, Biology or Physics.

    The applicant must have secured a minimum of 80%

    marks as per U.A.E. Secondary School education

    standards or its equivalent in each o the three science

    subjects.

    The applicant must have completed 17 years of age

    on or before the 31st of December of the year of

    admission.

    The applicant must be procient in spoken and written

    English and Sciences terminology.

    The applicant must have completed a course in English

    language prociency such as TOEFL (180 CBT, 70IBT)or its equivalent in a standardized English language

    test, such as 5.0 IELTS or any other equivalent

    internationally recognized test.

    The applicant shall appear for a personal interview

    before the GMU Admissions Committee.

    The Admissions Committee shall evaluate all

    applicants for both cognitive and non-cognitive traits

    demonstrating their aptitude or the chosen area o

    study.

    Applicants shall submit all academic documents and

    ocial transcripts / credits / grades / marks duly

    attested by the Ministry of Education, U.A.E. and

    Ministry of Foreign Affairs, U.A.E. or U.A.E. Embassy

    in their country on admission into the program.

    On admission, the student shall submit a copy of the

    applicants passport and a copy of UAE nationality

    ID (Khulasat Al-Kayd), a Certicate of Good Conduct.

    A medical tness certicate including blood test

    results, six recent color photographs, a written pledge

    by the applicant agreeing to comply with University

    rules and regulations, the application orm duly lled

    up with complete details, a receipt or payment o a

    nonreundable ee towards admission.

    All information regarding admissions shall appear in

    the catalog and in any other orms o advertisement

    circulated by the University.

    eature o our University, is a unique concept introduced

    by the University to enable students to get international

    ABOUT GMCHRC

    Gulf Medical College Hospital and Research Centre is theconstituent teaching hospital o Gul Medical University,

    the rst teaching hospital under the private sector inU.A.E. was started in October 2002 by the ThumbayGroup, U.A.E. With its unique approach to healthcarebringing together the best proessional expertise and

    inrastructure, the hospital constantly strives to ulll its

    motto of Healing through knowledge and wisdom. Themission o the hospital is to provide comprehensive and

    quality health care services to the community and to

    impart excellent educational opportunities or medical

    students in a stimulating environment.

    CLINICAL SERVICES

    Being a multi-specialty hospital, it houses thedepartments of Anesthesiology, Cardiology, InternalMedicine, General Surgery, Obstetrics and Gynecology,Pediatrics, Orthopedics, Ophthalmology, Dermatology,E.N.T. Psychiatry, Urology and Special Clinics likeDiabetics Clinic, Well Woman Center and Well BabyClinic. Specialized services include a medical imagingdepartment with state of the art equipment like multi-slice CT scan, mammography, ultrasound, ColordopplerUltrasound and radiography. An advanced laboratorycaters to the requirements o all the clinical departments

    and is equipped or regular and advanced investigations

    in biochemistry, clinical pathology, serology and

    hormone studies. Gulf Medical College Hospital has in-patient facilities for 250 patients distributed in different

    wards for Internal Medicine, Surgery, Obstetrics andGynecology, Pediatrics and well equipped ICU and CCU.Additional facilities include VIP suites, private, semi-private and general wards, which are ully urnished and

    well equipped to cater to dierent categories o patients.

    OPERATION THEATRES

    The ve modern operation theatres have been

    specically designed or operative procedures in an

    ultra-clean environment. Their construction featuresinclude stainless steel walls and ceiling, which allow or

    easy cleaning and maintenance.

    OUT-PATIENT SERVICES

    The outpatient services function from 9:00am to 1:00pm

    and from 5:00pm to 9:00pm every day except on Fridays.

    Emergency services and pharmacy work are available

    round the clock on all days.

    PATIENT AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT

    Affordable quality health care is not only a requirement

    o the community, but also the principle o the hospital.

    The Patient Affairs Department of the GMC Hospitaltakes special care in ensuring that appropriate care is

    extended to all sections o the patient population.

    STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES

    The hospital has a library, lecture halls and seminar

    rooms providing excellent academic environment or

    the students, internet acilities, video conerencing

    and other modern tools or medical education add to

    the learning facilities. Journal Club and Clinical Society

    meetings are held regularly during which academically

    interesting clinical cases are discussed in detail by

    dierent departments. This is a orum where clinicaland pre-clinical faculty interact providing students an

    insight into important clinical conditions. The GMCHRC

    publishes Synapse, the monthly newsletter that brings

    the personalities & activities o the hospital into ocus.

    The newsletter, in addition, carries very useul articles

    on health promotion. Common rooms are available, in

    the OPD block, complete with internet access for self-

    directed learning, or both male and emale students.

    This allows access to online databases both ree and

    subscribed.

    COMMON ROOMS

    Students appreciate having a room or a desk where they

    can write notes and keep their personal belongings.

    Students often describe the advantage of having a place

    where they can be ound by sta and preceptors. Two

    rooms has been identied in the OPD block complete

    with internet access for self-directed learning for both

    male and emale students. This allows access to online

    databases both ree and subscribed.

    THE HOSPITAL LIBRARY

    The hospital library is meant to be a reerence library

    only. Photocopying and computer print-out facilities are

    available. Computer facilities are available in the library

    and in designated areas in the hospital. Students and

    sta are expected to maintain complete silence in the

    library.

    In Orthodontic appliances the most advanced treatment

    techniques are oered which include lingual technique,

    Invisible braces, colored ceramic or composite braces,

    and space age titanium wire or comort and esthetics.

    All instruments are processed through a hospital steam

    autoclave or the protection and saety o the patients.

    Normal individual Radiography, Digital X-ray unit,

    Panoramic X-ray unit, Intra Oral Camera and Tissue

    Contouring System are used in the department.

    main road in the New Industrial Area of Ajman.

    The GMU and GMCHRC are about 12 Kms from

    Sharjah and about 40 kms from Dubai. The GMU and

    GMCHRC are linked to the metropolitan cities of Abu

    Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Umm Al Quwain and Ras Al

    Khaimah with roads and highways that make traveling

    ALUMNI COUNCILS OBjECTIVES

    GMU realizes the importance of involving Alumni in

    its planning or all programs and activities which are

    targeted at GMU alumni. In view o this act, an alumni

    council was ormed with the ollowing objectives:
