SPORTS MEDIA
Sports Media is our division’s newest major and offers exciting career opportunities. As a Sports
Media student, you’ll learn about the process of communicating within the sports industry.
You’ll build a foundation based on sports writing, broadcasting, online media, advertising and
video production, and learn the difference between content rooted in journalism and content
rooted in organizational communication.
In addition, you’ll have the opportunity to learn and practice your skills in the sports market and
through internships as public relations personnel, reporters, anchors and journalists.

“IWU did a great job of integrating solid education with faith and real-life experience. I’ve been in television for five years now and still draw from lessons I learned at WIWU-TV. The facilities at IWU are top-notch, and the opportunities are endless.”

STRATEGIC COMMUNICATION
What does a Strategic Communication graduate do? They help their organization determine
the best way to communicate, tell the story and meet business goals. Think of strategic
communication as an umbrella term, encompassing the fields of public relations, marketing
and advertising.
As a Strategic Communication major, you’ll concentrate in one of two areas—public relations or
organizational communication—and focus on gaining professional experience.
You’ll do that by completing real-world campaigns and projects for community clients, and
by interning with nonprofits, corporations or advertising agencies. You can also get great
experience through IWU’s chapter of The Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA).
Get hands-on professional experience, find internships
and network with PR pros through this nationally known
organization. Field trips, leadership positions and Half
Day with a Pro are just a few of the many reasons to join.

“I can’t overstate the importance of getting involved in PRSSA. The opportunities to shadow professionals in the field, listen to speakers at meetings and collaborate on local projects prepared me for the position I’m in today. PR touches every industry in some form or another, so even Business or Marketing majors would be wise to get involved.”

THEATRE
If you’re eager to become a better theatrical performer, producer or technician, IWU’s
Theatre program is the perfect place for you. Our mission is to equip, engage and
entertain our audience through stories that explore the artistic and spiritual dynamic
of the human experience.
You can concentrate in one of two areas—performance or technical theatre. Our program
focuses on giving you professional experience, and you’ll do that through acting, directing,
writing, designing and stage-managing.
You can also participate in the Theatre Guild, IWU’s theatre organization, as early as your
first semester, or travel with the Theatre Guild to theatre festivals throughout the country.
