As the College Principal for BIMM Manchester, I know how important it is to choose the right place to study and start your education and career off on the right path.

Like many of you, I knew I wanted to my life to be in music but it was only when my Mum suggested I think about studying it formally that this dream started to become a reality. As I look back on this time, all of my friends were going to college and university and I had my mind set on doing English – because I was good at it. What I realised was that when choosing what you wanted to do for the rest of your life, choosing something because you were good at it wasn’t necessarily the best option. Music has always been my passion and I decided to take a chance and audition for a place at university to study it. Eight years later I have a first class degree, a Master’s degree with distinction and a PhD – all of which are based in music.

Passion is the heart of the music industry and if you are passionate about a life in music I can think of nowhere more suitable for you than BIMM, the UK and Europe’s leading provider of contemporary music education.

Manchester is an incredible, multifaceted city with many subtleties and scenes and our college reflects this in the student cohort and the great range of talent and experience represented in our teaching team. The music scene here is one of the most renowned in the world and for many of our staff, those of us who moved here from other parts of the UK or the world, or those that have been settled here for years, the city continues to enthral and captivate us.

Dear Applicant——

Just like all the tutors here at BIMM Manchester, I amindustry active and continue to write, record, produceand perform music. All of this feeds directly intoyour education in a relevant, timely and practicalway. If you’re looking for a creative, successful andsustainable career in the music industry then I lookforward to welcoming you and being a part ofyour journey.

Transport——

BusThe closest bus stops to Great Marlborough Street (on the main student route) are located on Oxford Road by the Dancehouse coming into the city centre, and by the Palace Hotel to leave the city centre.

Bank Chambers is located a few minutes from the main bus station at Piccadilly Gardens. Buses at these stops run frequently between Manchester City Centre and popular student areas such as Rusholme, Fallowfield and Withington.

Manchester has the busiest bus route in Europe due to the number of universities on the Oxford Road corridor. As a result, you will rarely have to wait more than a few minutes for a bus during the day. The majority of buses on this route go from Piccadilly Gardens to South Manchester straight down Oxford road.

MetroManchester Metrolink has been expanding throughout the city and is a quick and easy way to travel across Greater Manchester. Metrolink runs on several lines including Salford Quays/Media City and East Didsbury. See metrolink.co.uk for more details.

BikeManchester is very cyclist-friendly with accessible cycle lanes. If you live a short distance from the college, it might be the most cost-effective way to travel. Find out more about cycling in Manchester at cycling.tfgm.com TrainFor those living outside of the city, BIMM Institute is easily accessible from either Piccadilly or Oxford Road Station. Oxford Road station is the closest to Great Marlborough Street, and Piccadilly Station is closest to Bank Chambers.
