The children were totally enthralled by the very talented dancers and had great fun learning all the new moves. They practised their partner routines, showing off their great rhythm and ended the day with a mini performance to the parents. It was a fantastic afternoon full of dancing, music and lots of smiles and it was great to see all the parents joining in too. Maybe we will recreate our moves at the disco this week! A massive ‘1960s thank you’ goes to Miss Elliott and Miss Stagg for organising this opportunity. If your children enjoyed the dancing this week, watch out for more information coming out about a street dance taster day later this term! Exciting times to come…as always! To celebrate Year 2’s Commotion in the Oceantopic, Hazel and Mulberry classes were overcome on Monday with sea creatures, sailors, tourists, swimmers and mermaids, as well as many more ocean dwellers! In addition to the place being lit up with bright colours and shiny scales, we were also fortunate enough to have a special guest visitor; none other than our very own Oliver M, a real life SCUBA diver! Eyes were wide and mouths dropped as the children were told of adventures into the sea…see article at the foot of the Newsletter for more information. Thanks go to all the parents who helped the children look spectacular in their costumes. and outfits once again. On Thursday, Years 3 and 4 spent the day acknowledging the Summer Solstice, as a 'fabulous finish' to their successful topic 'The Bronze Age'. They spent the morning creating poems about the sun, making sundials (and predicting where they would be facing an hour later) and creating musical pieces about the sun. Our musical tributes were performed in many styles, including rap (Reece Newton) and opera (Frankie Osborne)! In the afternoon, we had a fantastic picnic on the field. We created sunflowers in art using pencils, paints, chalk and cotton buds to create a dotted pattern. This will go down as one of the highlights of the year for children and adults alike! Mr Sears was very impressed by the quality and level of vocabulary used by the Year 3 and 4 writers this week. They spent Monday morning writing a diary entry based on a video games obsessed boy who had a 3-legged puppy gifted to him by his mummy. This piece was inspired by a short video clip, which the children then built upon and wrote around to fill out the storyline. Paragraphs were used with real purpose and words such as ‘relished’, ‘disbelief’ and ‘yapping’ helped deliver pace and emotion to their writing. Could you write a diary entry about this scenario? Maybe you could share it with your class teacher. See the film clip here: http://www.wimp.com/the- present/ KS2 children and parents did us proud with their kind donations of cakes on Thursday. As always, the crowds amassed and the delights flew off the shelves like…well, cakes at a Bolnore Cake Sale! We raised a fantastic sum of money, which will be going towards Rainbow Day and other ventures which FoBVPS support across the year. Thank you for your support. Our very own PADI diver, Oliver, hit the depths of downstairs when he ventured to Year 2 to speak about diving. Linked to their topic, Commotion in the Ocean, he gave an inspiring talk all about diving and some of his experiences underwater. The children and staff were fascinated by the equipment he brought in, as well as the amazing places he has been to for diving expeditions. Oliver: thank you for taking the time to do this. KS2 Locality Maths Challenge Three enthusiastic teams of mathematicians represented Bolnore at the 2 nd Locality Maths Challenge event. Organised once again, expertly, by Miss Webber, Tuesday afternoon provided our pupils with the chance to pit their maths talents against 11 other teams from across Haywards Heath. Whilst we didn’t win, we did ourselves proud, solving many of the challenges and learning more about what it means to work as a team. Thanks also go to the KS2 Maths Ambassadors who supported the event and ran the scoring. On Monday, Year 6 spent the day getting back to their primitive roots and learning more about the Stone Age way of life. In groups, the children researched and prepared a 'Horrible Histories' style piece of drama, which they then went on to film using the green screen. The class continued their Stone Age theme throughout the week by completing cave art and some amazing Stone Age poetry too. What a terrific charity event! Over £1200 was raised in less than two hours for good causes close to home and further afield. Children from all classes had worked hard in the week leading up to the event and their efforts paid off in a spectacular style! This is a fabulous example of how the School community can pull together to achieve great things to benefit others. Well done! Tickets for our ever popular FoBVPS Quiz Night will be going on sale shortly. Make sure Friday 8 July is in the diary. Year 3 and 4 pupils have turned their hand to pottery, Bronze Age style. Their pots quickly took shape and then given a special coat of paint, amazing! Wishing you all a fantastic half term break! Get lots of rest and be refreshed ready for Summer 2.
