Gentle flow ensures an almost blockage-

free, powerful and very sensitive crop

flow through a 4-row potato harvester.

Conventional systems have two separate

intake units, designed for 2 row machines

that are joined together. This results in

poor visibility, blockage problems and

higher maintenance costs.

Grimme harvesters have a through-type

intake unit and separators that therefore

require less bearings and drives resulting

in maintenance being greatly reduced.

Two active rubber rollers are fitted to

separate the crop flow just above the rear

axle. In combination with the one-piece

extracting roller as transfer unit from the

1st to the 2nd main web, a blockage-free

crop flow is achieved. The crop is thereby

evenly distributed over the full width of

the machine and onto the separators.

New crop flow process for 4-row potato harvesters

HARVESTING TECHNOLOGYRobust rotary hiller for up to 500 HP

The new 4-row GF 400

rotary hiller is a real

all-rounder. Due to its

reinforced mounting frame

that includes a strong three-

point linkage and heavy

duty support wheels,

designed to improve the

hillers depth control, the

machine can be used as a

stand alone rotary hiller or in

combination with a trailed

potato planter.

When used in combination,

the GF 400 has the potential

to reduce working times and

prevent additional soil

compaction over the field.

The GF 400 is available with

75 or 90 cm row widths. In

75 cm specification there is

no need to uncouple the

machine (German Road

Transport Permissions)

allowing for safe and simple

road transport.

As an option the GF 400 is

available with a high power

gearbox for tractors with up

to 500 HP.

For potato growers who need to apply

pesticides into the furrow or for direct seed

dressing, Grimme offers the various

options of 400 or 800 litre tank systems of

the TS series.

For the Grimme front fertiliser, pre-shaper

and rotary tiller mounted to the tractor

front, Grimme developed a chemical

applicator containing two 200 litre tanks

that include rinsing water and hand wash

tank. The special design allows a good

view to the front. The TS 420 tank system

enables an optimum weight distribution

and needs therefore less lifting power

from the tractor. A limited pre-series is

available for the season 2016.

As separate front units the TS 410 or 820

chemical applicators with one or two 400

litre tanks including rinsing water and

hand wash tank are available. The TS 820

is also available for the rear mounting in

combination with a potato planter.

Depending on the tractor equipment and

power, there is a choice to operate the

machines either via PTO shaft,

hydraulically from the tractor or with the

potato planter control block. The applicati-

on is either manually controlled by the

driver, half- or fully automatically

depending on the drive speed incl.

spraying track switch-off. The TS 410, 420

and 820 meet the legal requirements for

plant protection machinery.

For export markets outside the European

Union the TS 400 chemical applicators for

the separate front mounting incl. 400 litre

tank as well as the TS 800 unit with two

400 litre tanks for the attachment to a

potato planter are available. Both units

come without rinsing water and hand

wash tanks. The applicators are driven via

PTO shaft. The units are intentionally

designated for manual application to keep

the handling simple.

Grimme offers the correct solution with 5

professional chemical applicators for

versatile worldwide requirements.

HARVESTER

Infinite drive with VarioDrive

VarioDrive is a power branching drive for

the potato harvester, offering infinitely

adaption of the manual driven main webs

to any changing digging conditions and

allowing reversing by pushing one button

if blocking of the crop flow occurs.

Traditional systems are either mechanical-

ly or hydraulically driven. The advantages

of the mechanical drive are the high

effectiveness, energy efficiency and less

expensive. Hydraulic drives have the

advantage of infinitely adjustments and

reversing as well as a higher operator

comfort. One advantage is the others

drawback: For the first time, the

VarioDrive for Grimme trailed harvesters

have the advantages of both systems and

do eliminate the disadvantages.

The new drive concept consists of a

epicyclic gearbox with integrated hydraulic

motor and has more or less the same size

as the conventional mechanical drive.

Compared to the hydraulic systems the

new drive concept has a 20 % higher

efficiency which reduces the fuel

consumption by 1 litre per hour. The price

is less than for a full hydraulic drive.

Due to physical reasons off-set trailed

and self-propelled harvesters with large

wheels tend to sway under adverse

conditions. This reduces the digging

output and is uncomfortable for the

pickers. The active swaying stability

control ComfortDrive keeps the machine

in a stable position and can increase

digging speed up to 30 %.

Without the stability control it is

necessary to fit two wheels of different

flexibility to avoid the swaying of the

machine. For example, if small twin

wheels are fitted this creates an

unintended high soil compaction. The

active control of the levelling cylinder

keeps the machine on a constant

horizontal level and enables a digging

speed of more than 5 kmph without

swaying. The new system allows to use

larger wheels for a reduced ground

pressure. The output and also the

working situation of the pickers is

significantly improved. ComfortDrive is

available as option for the 2-row bunker

harvester SV 260 as well as for the 2-row

self-propelled harvesters VARITRON 200

and 270.

Conventional mechanical drive of potato harvester

The new hydraulic gearbox does not need much more space than the mechanical drive, therefore enor-mous changes in the design are not necessary.

Relaxed working for the driver and pickers with ComfortDrive

ComfortDrive also available for the 2-row trailed bunker harvester SV 260.

At the Agritechnica 2013, Grimme

obtained the "DLG Gold Medal" (DLG =

German Agricultural Society) for their

revolutionary pneumatic separator, Air-

Sep. The system is able to separate

stones, wet clods and haulm from

potatoes by airflow in a very powerful and

extremely gentle way. Within just two

years, extensive developments have

been made with regard to its efficiency,

power consumption, noise level, dust

extraction and installation space. In

cooperation with our American subsidiary

Spudnik, over 100 trailed harvesters and

stationary machines have now been

equipped with the new separator. These

are used all around the globe in Russia,

USA, Canada and China.

Besides, Grimme has carried out

intensive testing using 2-row trailed

harvesters (type SV 260 an SE 260) with

German and overseas customers. The

very promising and successful results

were shown at the Grimme Technica in

2014.

For the European market many factors

have to be considered, including various

legal regulations concerning noise emis-

sions, machinery directives and road

transport. In overcoming these issues,

Grimme will now launch and offer Airsep

at Agritechnica 2017 - the first potato

harvester with AirSep meeting all

regulations for the European market.

Box weigh scale for box filler

For the exact weighing of

crop during storing (in or

out) a box weigh scale has

been developed for the

Grimme GBF box filler

series. The two compact

weighing modules are

simply integrated to the box

filler frame and are easily

retrofitted.

The filling automatically

stops or changes to the

next box when the pre-set

weight has been reached.

All functions of the weighing

device can be operated

from the box filler operator

terminal GBT 840. A tare

function especially when

using different boxes is also

integrated. A large LCD

display shows the weight of

the current box in 1 kg

steps plus the number and

the total weight of all boxes

per day.

35 ton capacity, unloading output of 10

ton per minute but gentle to the crop and

ground protective. These market require-

ments are implemented into a 12 m long

CropCart by Spudnik.

Depending on the equipment, the transfer

trailer can be used for the transport and

unloading of potatoes, beet, grain,

carrots, cucumbers, corn but also for

fertiliser. The large dimension transfer

elevator can be levelled hydraulically to

positions guaranteeing the optimum

position for all situations. The driver has

a good view onto the unloading elevator

which is fitted to the front of the trailer.

The Crop Cart is available with three

different chassis versions: single axle,

twin axle and rubber tracks. With respect

to its large dimensions, the CropCart with

35 tons version has no road approval for

Europe. A 20 ton version has been

developed for the European market

which will be used, for example, for red

beet in Great Britain.

CropCart: Multi-function transfer trailer for field crops

SPUDNIKSection Control: more comfortable and more precise

The main function of

Section Control is the

planting in defined rows. On

basis of the GPS position

the Section Control System

switches the planting

elements automatically

on-and-off at headlands and

on wedge-shaped areas.

For the next season an

"everything at a glance"

function will be available,

which shows all machine

functions and Section

Control parameters to the

driver in a particular clear

way. A new software update

improves the accuracy of

the single row switch-off at

the headlands. Further-

more, it is now possible to

delete unnecessary data for

the definition of headlands

after programming the field

contours or changing its

width. This is especially

useful in L-shaped fields if

headlands are not required

everywhere.

HANDLING EQUIPMENT

Sample taker for receiving hopper

The sample taker picks very gentle and

quickly presents a sample of the crop flow

to define the soil content and quality of the

potato. Giving a true result and therefore a

fair settlement basis for the grower and

purchaser, the sample is taken directly

from the hopper before the separation and

cleaning starts. The sample is taken via

flip switch or the operator terminal of the

receiving hopper with a minimal stop of

the crop flow.

A hydraulically driven conveyor will be

integrated into the crop flow at the transfer

between the hopper and the cleaning unit

with almost no drop. Sensors automatical-

ly control the sample taking to collect the

right quantity for the sample box. Surplus

crop is returned gently and automatically

to the crop flow. The sample is gently

transferred via a cross conveyor by

pushing a button into a sample box.

A very stable, ergonomically optimised

and clearly visible operator stand has

been developed. The height of the

operator stand gives the operator a good

view of the whole crop flow and the

sample taker without need to bend over.

The steps down from the operator stand

as well as the chute for the sample box

run parallel so that the operator easily can

take the sample box while stepping of the

operator stand.

The CropCart is ideal for the fast filling of planting machines.

BEET TECHNOLOGY

Mechanical precision seeder for beets

At the Agritechnica 2015 Grimme will

launch the new precision seeder, called

MATRIX, for sugar and fodder beet,

chicory and canola. The machine is

available for 12- or 18- rows, either with

45, 48 or 50 cm row width.

The MATRIX has the following standard

features such as a mulch seed unit with

two front running cutter discs, two

Farmflex wheels for depth control as well

as a 4-times adjustable mechanical load

of the seeder unit with up to 90 kg per row

(hydraulic adjustment up to 190 kg

available on option). A standard seed unit

is also available.

After singling of the seed into a seed plate

it drops only 2.5 cm into the furrow and

ensures an exact deposit. The following

5 kg heavy, free swinging, rubber covered

pressure rollers ensure a good covering of

the seed. Four different units for the

various soil conditions are available for a

good seed covering.

The inner filled seed plate is driven via

electro motors, this technology enables

both creating of driving tracks (without any

seed) and closer seeding next to the

driving tracks (so called "Clever Planting").

In combination with a GPS system the

seeder automatically stops seeding at

headlands and wedge-shaped fields (so

called "Section Control").

For the driver's comfort focus is set on an

ergonomic and comfortable design.

An intuitive operation of the MATRIX is

possible, using the colour touch-screen

terminal "CCI 100" and ISOBUS

technology. Two boxes allow room for

carrying extra seed and a vacuum cleaner

for remaining seed emptying etc. The

seed plate have a tool-free and

spring-loaded emptying flap. As an option,

the MATRIX seeder can be also equipped

with a granulate spreader.

The MATRIX has been developed by the

beet technology manufacturer Kleine in

Salzkotten which was taken over by

Grimme in 2012. Production of that

machine will start with limited editions in

2016. The substantial experience of Klei-

ne has influenced the development of the

MATRIX. Now, including the new MATRIX

to the product range, Grimme is the only

full-liner for beet technology in the world.

Grimme will show extensive further deve-

lopments to the self-propelled beet

harvesters MAXTRON and REXOR at

the Agritechnica show.

Even more power for the MAXTRON!

The machine is now equipped with a 530

HP engine in lieu of 490 HP; its power is

generated by a 6-cylinder Mercedes

Benz engine (OM 471) with a capacity of

12,8 litres. The engine meets the latest

exhaust emission standard stage IV. An

improved engine management has

reduced the fuel consumption for all

applications in the field and also on the

road.

The MAXTRON will now incorporate the

new ErgoDrive operator armrest which is

already used in the REXOR. Besides the

integration of two colour touch-screens -

CCI 100 - the driver can define several

functions for direct operation by

programming the rotary switch and

joystick integrated in the armrest of the

air-suspended driver's comfort seat. This

more ergonomically design gives an

better overview over all important

functions of the machine and makes it

easier for the driver to adapt quickly and

direct important parameter according to

the changing harvesting conditions.

All Grimme self-propelled harvester are

fitted with the efficient and economical

LED lights as standard, thus ensure a

non-reflecting and wide illumination of the

working area.

The REXOR 620 or 630 are also

optionally available in two different

versions of driving speed - 32 or

40 kmph - to reduce the non-productive

time for road travel.

The latest generation of the 6-, 8- and

9-row walking share with single row

depth control for the REXOR series will

be presented on the Agritechnica show.

In addition, a new type of variable

chopper will be presented. The machine

either deflects the leaves to the left-hand

side or between the rows (Inline system)

- just as required. This flexibility can be

an major advantage in fields with much

haulm or on slopes in wet conditions.
