Alton is a historic market town located just off the A31 which connects Winchester and theM3 (circa 15.5 miles) to the southeast with Guildford and the A3 (circa 16.5 miles) to thenortheast. Basingstoke and the M3 (Jct 6) are approximately 9.2 miles to the north. Altonhad a population of 17,816 at the 2011 census and is administered by East HampshireDistrict Council.
