depth perception
DESCRIPTION
THESIS UPLOAD MARCH 22TRANSCRIPT
THESIS STATEMENT
My thesis is an exploration into the simplicities and complexities in illusions of depth on screens, and how they interact within real spaces.
Throughout the year, I have been creating images which deconstruct screen-based depth to its simplest elements, taking inspirations from the basic elements of art and design.
These include: line, color, value, and motion.
Within each element, I began with a bare structure and after exploring the possibilites available, I then tried to push its design toimpossible lengths. This results in images which, hopefully, cause the viewer to see spaces and depths which can never exist in real life.
I also began cataloguing the default depth effectsavailable on photoshop, and dissecting what makes these features trick one to believe a screen based image has the properties of reality.
In order to add an extra level of confusion tomy pieces, I projected them into real spaces. This forces my original images to be distortedand conform to the shape of reality.
My thesis project will be contained on websites, acting as faux gallery spaces.
