P.G. DEPARTMENT OF HUMAN RESOURCE MANAGEMENT
HR ORIENTATION
The Department organised H.R Orientation sessions for the first year students as they are
coming from different academic disciplines. Resource persons from the Corporate were
invited to orient on HR practices in their respective organisation.
• Mr.Prashanth, a Senior HR Manager, Ford Motors addressed the students on 27th June
2019.
• Mr.Vignesh, HR Manager, Maersk Line addressed the students on 28th June 2019.
OBSERVATION VISITS:
The First year students made three observation visits to the following organisations as part of
their curriculum during the month of July 2019. The places visited were as follows:
• On 3rd July, 2019, Wednesday, Students made an Observation visit was arranged to
the Lube Blending Plant of Indian Oil Corporate Limited, Tondiarpet, Chennai.
• On 24th July, 2019, Students made an observation visit to WABCO INDIA located at
Ambatur Industrial estate in Chennai.
• On 3rd August, 2019, Students made an observation visit to ASHOK LEYLAND
located at Ennore in Chennai.
GUEST LECTURES:
The Department organized interactive sessions with the Corporates to enhance the student’s
understanding of business and HR world.
• Dr.Priya Sethuraman, Professor at the St. Joseph’s Institute of Management addressed
on the topic “Research Methodology – Multi variate Analysis”
• Prof. B Venkateswaran, Professor at the Pondicherry University addressed on the
topic” Ignite your entrepreneurial instinct and achieve Succcess”
• Ms. SandhiyaThiruvenkadam, HR Analytics Professional -AON Hewitt and
Foundation addressed on the topic” HR Analytics -Spot analysis”
• Dr. Mahalakshmi, DGM – Legal Division Department, TVS Group addressed on the
topic” The Sexual harassment of women at workplace”
WORKSHOPS
The Department organised series of Workshops during the Academic year 2019-20 for the
second year students. The resource persons for the Workshops are as follows:
• Dr.PriyaSethuraman, Professor at the St. Joseph’s Institute of Management, Chennai
conducted a workshop on “SPSS – Application of Parametric & Non-Parametric tools”
• Mr. Santhanam P, Director, Transbiz Consulting Pvt Ltd. Conducted a workshop on
“HR Analytics”.
FORUM ACTIVITIES:
HR SYMPHONY
In celebration of its 15 years the Department of MA HRM conducted the Corporate Event
“HR SYMPHONY 2019” at Madras Management Association, Anna Salai on 4th October
2019. Ms. Gowri Kailasam, President, Rane Madras Limited was the Guest of Honour and
Mr. N. Mahesh, Associate Vice President HR, TAFE was invited as the Special Guest for
the event.
The students of HRM did the Dip Stick Study Presentation on the theme “The “H” in
“Human Capital” which aimed at discussing the definition of Human Capital and what and
all consists of the human capital and also about what are the current practices in HR field
which are prevalent in industry. Followed by the dip stick study presentation was the Panel
Discussion with Eminent speakers from the Industry. The session was highly interactive and
helped everyone to gain a lot of insights. The panellists are as follows:

CO-CREATE
Co-Create is an intra collegiate initiative by the Department of Human Resource
Management, under the banner of Innovatia 2020. Co-Create aims at bringing together
students from various disciplines. It is a short, intense brainstorming experience designed to
help students to work in teams to generate creative solutions to the existing social concerns in
the community. The event commenced on 4th February 2020. The facilitators for the day were

HR COFFEE CLUB
HR coffee club – An initiative by the Department of Human Resource Management aims at
creating a platform brewing conversation as stimulating as coffee, bearing an aroma of
newfangled ideas in the air. Tapping into the rich resource pool of the department, HR Coffee
Club proactively synthesizes the ingredients of intelligence and experience of the passed-out
batches, gracefully serving it to the new age dynamic millennials. In contrast to the larger
events of the department like Symphony and Innovatia, Coffee Club is a cozy huddle of
students and alumni dissipating knowledge in the most informal of ways.
In light of its proud history of 15 years, the discussion for the July- 2019 coffee session
revolved around the topic, “HR Then and Now”, focusing on the evolution of the HR
spectrum, over the years. The first program of the HR Coffee club for the academic year
2019-2020 was held on 16th July 2019 in the MSSW Tag Auditorium. The panelists for the
day were Ms. Emily John, Senior HR Manager, Sundaram Clayton Ltd, Ms. Sonia Shalom,
Head – Talent Management, L&T, Mr. Sandeep Andrew, HR Manager, Sanmar, Mr. Reuben

HR COFFEE CLUB – EDITION 2
On 18th February 2020, the department conducted the second edition of HR Coffee Club. Mr.
Israel Inbaraj, General Manager of TCS addressed the students on the theme “Code of
Wages” - Act of the Parliament of India that consolidates the provisions of 4 labour laws
concerning wages, bonus payments and equal remuneration for all the workers in India. It
was passed on 30th July; 2019.
INNOVATIA 2020
Innovatia is an Annual student event conducted by the PG Department of Human Resource
Management at Madras School of Social Work. This year INNOVATIA 2020 took place on
25th of February 2020. Various colleges across the city from different disciplines enlightened
the event with their participation. INNOVATIA 2020 had over 125 participants, participating
in 6 events.

students during the Academic year 2019-20. The resource persons for the soft skills are as

CERTIFICATE PROGRAMME
The Department organized a Certificate program on “Cognitive Behaviour Therapy”. This
was conducted Experts from Banyan Academy of Leadership in Mental Health (BALM). The
second Certificate program on “Labour legislations” was conducted by Experts from The
Employers Federation of South India (EFSI).

OUTBOUND TRAINING
The second year students had their Outbound training at Leap Learning Academy,
Mathampalayam (Coimbatore) facilitated by CAMI certified trainers between 23rd July 2019
to 25th July 2019. The trainers emphasised on experiential learning by using various activities
like Dynamic Obstacle Course (DOC), High Ropes/ low ropes, Production house, Numbers,
Shapes & Colours, Blind Trek and Bricks. Key learning outcomes experienced by the
students included group problem solving, idea generation, leveraging of strengths, leadership,
managerial skill, communication skill, team synergy, analytical thinking and understanding
of interdependence & active collaboration.
STUDENT ACHIEVEMENTS:
• The second year students namely Mr.Raghuram, Ms.Sanjana Nair,
Mr.Hrishikesh.N.S, Mr.Arjun Krishnan and Ms.Sandhiya.S took part in the National level
Management event conducted by Thygaraja School of Management and won the second
runners up at Humanitas, Yukti 2020.
• The second year students namely Mr.Raghuram, Ms.Sanjana Nair, Mr.Hrishikesh.N.S
and Mr.Arjun Krishnan took part in the National level Management event conducted by IIM
–T and won the Second Place and received a Cash Prize of Rs.10000.

• Served as a Resource Person for conducting a one day FDP for the faculty of Patrician
College, Chennai on the topic: Serve to Lead.
• Served as a Resource Person for conducting a session for the employees of TAFE on

Dr.P.Mohana:
• Served as a Resource Person for conducting Workshop on “Personality Development
Skills” for the U.G. Students in the One day YRC Study Camp sponsored by Youth Red

Administration, Publication, Research and development and continued dedicated service to
the academic and student’s community held on 29th December 2019.
• Dr.P.Mohana was awarded the Doctorate of Philosophy (Ph.d) from University of
Madras during this Academic year.
