The purpose of this course is to provide theregistrant with an understanding of state-of-the-art imaging methods as they pertain toclinical practice and the science of radiology. Itis designed to examine the practical aspects ofestablished CT,MRI,US,and PET techniques,aswell as to introduce new techniques andapplications for these modalities.Plenary ses-sions and workshops have been structured toreview pathologic processes and image inter-pretation,and to update the registrant onadvanced applications and image analysis.

Educational Objectives1. Based on new and advanced imaging tech-

niques in MR,CT,PET,US,non-invasiveangiography and fast-imaging techniquesleading to a greater understanding of dis-ease states,participants will enhance theirdiagnostic acumen in evaluating all regionsof the body,from the head to the toe.

2. Based on new imaging algorithms utilizingstate-of-the-art imaging technology,par-ticipants will design optimized protocolsfor the evaluation of patients presentingwith CNS neoplasia, degenerative joint dis-ease,bone marrow disorders, focal and dif-fuse liver disease, interstitial lung disease,atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, andbreast cancer,among other conditions.

3. Due to the rapid evolution of new imag-ing technologies in MR, CT, PET, US, andnon-invasive angiography, participantswill be able to critically evaluate thestrengths and weaknesses of thesemethodologies, compare and contrasttheir merits and recognize challengesfacing the radiologist in assessing dis-eases of the body—from the head tothe toe.

Course FormatThe course runs for five-and-a-half days,with a combination of didactic lectures andinteractive workshops on many days. Pre-registration for workshops is not required.Attendance of the entire course willprovide a comprehensive imaging review,including advanced and cutting edge tech-niques. Attendees may choose to enroll inany combination of individual course days,thereby creating a unique course contenttailored to an individual’s distinct interests.

Target AudienceThe course material is intended for clinicalradiologists in either general or specializedpractice, and is appropriate for radiologists intraining. Familiarity with the fundamentalsof CT, MR, PET, and US technology and appli-cations, as well as basic anatomy, is assumed.

Statement of NeedThe rapid evolution of technology in CT,MR, PET, and US, with the consequent mod-ification and expansion of clinical applica-tions for these techniques, has resulted inan ongoing need for an annual, all encom-passing course introducing the latestdevelopments in the field, while reviewingestablished proven applications for thesemodalities. Additionally, new conceptsregarding common diseases require timelyreview of clinical disorders.Due to theexplosive growth of the field of radiology,it is imperative for practicing radiologiststo update their skills and gain exposure tonew information. Maintenance of certifica-tion requires continued review of essentialimaging techniques in all areas of radiolo-gy, including body, thoracic, musculoskele-tal, neuroradiology, cardiac, women’simaging and breast imaging.
