Beforeweevenstartingtothinkconsciouslyourbodieshavestartedsensing,recognising,perceiving.Sensationprecedesthinking.Thusthinkinghasalottolearnfromtheimmediacyofsensationandthetedioustaskofenteringadialoguewithcolour,formandtheprocessofperceptionthroughtheartisticprocessofpainting.Inthiscoursewewillopenforawidespectrumofgenreswithinpainting,fromconceptualpaintingtonewimpressionism,performanceartandclassicalstudiopainting.Dis-coursewillbepracticedonthecanvas.Differentaspectsofthemateriality,performanceandspatialconditionsofpaintinganditschoreographywillbeexplored.Whatpowerdoespaintingcontainto-day?Howdoweorientpaintingasamediumandartform?Howdoweengageourselvesasartistswithpainting?Howdoesemotion,affectivity,memoryandexpressioncometogetherinpainting?Thesequestionswillbeexploredtogetherinasmallgroupthroughthepracticeofpainting

InWhyAffectTheory?studentswillgainanunderstandingofwhatthismeans,whataffectsare,whatroletheyplayinindividualexperience,inshapingsociety,andthevariedmannersinwhichaffectsinformtheartwemakeanditswiderreception.Whatdoaffectsthemselves—andourunderstandingofthem—meaninapoliticalsense?Thecoursewillspecificallyfocusonaffectsinrelationtothisuneasymomentintime.Giventhedeepdivisionsinsociety,increasingecologicalcalamityatourdoorstep—feelingsofanxiety,experiencesofexhaustionandprecarityseemtogripalllevelsofexistence.

ThecoursebeginswithexploringhowweunderstandtheconceptofsocialreproductionandthenwillexploreanumberofdifferentworkplaceswithdifferentmethodsandworkstructuresincludingABF,ABurnOutClinic,andaHemtjänstcompanytoinvestigatesocialreproductionatwork.Byinvestigatingdifferentcontemporaryworkplaceswewilltrytounderstandhowwork‘works’uponbodiesandwhatstructuresandpracticesareinplaceatworkthatsupportandreproduceitsworkersandtheworkplace.Theconsiderationofothersitesofworkandworkplaceswillhelpustoreflectoncommonalities,andcollectivelydevelopspeculationsonhowthisrelatestoKonstfack,ourownpracticesandcontemporaryconditionsofworkasawhole.

Day2–TriptoHemtjänstofficesandlecturebystaffontheirworkandworkingconditions.Thiswillbefollowedbyamappingworkshoptrackingartisticpracticesthathaveworkedwithsocialreproduction.
