What does Our Lady of Guadalupe mean to us? History tells us that after the discovery of America by Christopher Columbus there were looting, bloody and dehumanized battles due to the greed of the conquerors who on April 21, 1521 arrived in Veracruz in Mexico, commanded by Hernán Cortés, a Spanish military man sent to these lands to make them a colony of Spain. The indigenous people of this continent had their own beliefs. They were polytheists, that is, they believed in various gods but they knew that nothing was by chance, they knew and felt that everything created was by a superior being. The conquerors arrived with priests, to catechize the natives, but how would that be: remove and change their customs, their cults and their gods for a God unknown to them? Their temples where they had worshiped disappeared; and on them were made constructions with Spanish architecture, as we know to this day, leaving their beliefs and their gods buried under the earth. All this was done through force, turning them into slaves and marking with hot irons the faces of those who did not accept the religious culture they were given, even leading to the death of those who did not accept it, this as a lesson to what the conquerors said. The methods were certainly not correct. Thus, the conquered natives accepted what the Spaniards said out of fear, but not out of conviction. Such as hearing of a loving, caring, paternalistic, miraculous God, the Son of a human woman named Mary, the Mother of God, the Mother of the Savior, the Mother of the King of the Universe. This was very difficult for them to accept! How to understand what these men did to make them believe, humiliating them, hurting them; how to change everything they believed, for something that some men told them with these methods and many more, in a military regime commanded by Hernán Cortés, who for his purpose justified the means, This was not the work of men, something else was needed, someone needed to justify precisely what these men said, who, although they carried the truth, wanted to impose it by methods far from the teachings of Jesus Christ. Thus, from April 1521 to December 1531, that is, 10 years after the arrival of the conquerors and their work of colonization and teachings, one of the greatest miracles of life happened, the first in the American continent. It was the appearance of a woman, with a dark complexion like the skin of the subjugated natives, with a semblance of peace and a voice as sweet and loving as there is no other like it, the Virgin of Guadalupe. What was God's plan? Jesus said "Go all over the world and announce the Good News to all creation" (Mk. 16; 15). Given the cir cumstances and that the fir st par t was made by the Spanish friars, the Virgin Mary, Mother of Jesus personally arrived to deliver the Good News of her son Jesus. All this was with the participation of an Indian named Juan Diego, now a Saint, and Bishop Fray Juan de Zumárraga, strengthening the conversion of a people to Christianity and achieving a truce by evangelizing by love and not by force. Just as on December 25, 2020 years ago, she had given us her son Jesus, now she did it here in Mexico, she chose a starting point for the north and for the south, giving us her beloved Son Jesus Christ, as She had done in Bethlehem. Those were blessed events, which leave us with thoughts such as knowing that the pain is pedagogical and this teaching pain was healed by the Mother of God here called Virgin of Guadalupe, Our Lady of Guadalupe, who came to give peace to the men and women of this continent and to give us her son Jesus Christ our Lord. As she requested, her temple was built, the Basilica of Guadalupe, which was visited by 9.8 million pilgrims on December 12, 2019 and 18 million in total throughout the year. Is this single fact a miracle?

Special Charitable Deduction for 2020
The “CARES ACT” provides for a special
charitable deduction this year (2020), even for
taxpayers who do not itemize their deductions.
This is a special one-time deduction of up to
$300 for cash contributions made this year to
qualifying organizations [501 ©(3)], which are
religious, charitable, educational, scientific or
literary in purpose. St. Patrick Church is a
qualifying organization! The deduction will
basically reduce the amount of your taxable
income.
To qualify, your contributions must be given
this year. If you have any questions, be sure to
consult your accountant or tax preparer.

Holy Mass All of our regular Masses are open to the public (see front cover). Everyone over the age of 2 must wear a facemask. If you are feeling sick, coughing or sneezing, please stay at home at this time. There is currently no obligation to attend Mass. All our Masses can be seen online at our website: stpatricklaredo.org
Confessions
Confessions will be in the main church Monday and Wednesday at
7:30 pm, and Saturday at 2 pm. Confessions will be in the parish hall
30 minutes before each Sunday Mass. You must wear a facemask
and stand in line with social distancing while waiting for
confession.
Sunday Bulletin Our weekly bulletins have articles and the latest announcements for our parishioners. They are available in our church and in a box in front of the parish office. You can also see our bulletins online at our website: stpatricklaredo.org
For all other questions, please call our office during the hours listed on the front page. Donations can be dropped off at the slot in the door of the parish office, or you can sign up for easy online giving at our website. If you need to visit our office for any reason, you must wear a facemask, and do NOT visit if you are sick! Remember the beautiful advice of St. Padre Pio, “Pray, hope and don’t worry!”

General Chapter Missionary Sisters of MARILAM
The general chapter is the highest governing body of a religious congregation, while the sessions last as established by Canon Law (631). It is summoned by the superior general according to the period determined in the Constitutions of each congregation. Also, in our Missionaries of Mary of the Americas congregation, MARILAM, it is the assembly of all the sisters, where a report is given on the mandate received from the outgoing council and where a new superior is elected and the general council of 4 sisters who second her. In addition, it is where, in the light of the Holy Spirit, the challenges and challenges of the evangelizing mission are evaluated and options are taken to continue responding from our charism to the missionary service of the Church (Const.MM # 169). All this year 2020, the Sisters have been preparing our IV General Chapter, with spiritual retreats, prayer, discernment and community meetings, under the theme:
"MARILAM, Passionate about the Gospel, Live your Fecundity in the Joy of Mission."
The time has come to carry out this elective assembly, that will be from December 7 to 12, when we will be holding our IV General Chapter, in which the new General Council and Superior of our congregation will also be elected. We entrust ourselves to your prayers, dear parishioners, so that the Holy Spirit may be the animator, the promoter and our compass for this great and beautiful event.

Adoration of the Eucharist
Join the community of St. Patrick for an hour of Exposition and Adoration in English every third Wednesday of the month. This Holy Hour of Eucharistic devotion will be held from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. in the church.
Confessions will be available during this Holy Hour. Next Adoration date is set for December 16, in English. Don’t miss this awesome and beautiful opportunity to pray with your Community.
We are very excited and blessed to be able to have Adoration in the Church.
We must follow all rules and regulations the same as we do during mass times. Everyone must wear a mask and seat six feet apart unless you live in the same household. We also need 4-6 volunteers to stay after adoration to sanitize the church pews.

Únase a la comunidad de San Patricio para una hora de exposición, y adoración en español cada primer miércoles del mes, en la iglesia de las 7:30 p.m. a 8:30 p.m. Se ofrecerán confesiones durante la Hora Santa. La próxima Adoración Eucarística será el miércoles, 16 de diciembre en ingles. No se pierda esta maravillosa y gran oportunidad de orar con su comuni-dad. Estamos muy emocionados y bendecidos de anunciar que tendremos Adoración en la Iglesia.
Debemos seguir todas las reglas y regulaciones al igual que lo hacemos durante la misa. Todos deben usar una máscara y sentarse a una distancia de seis pies al menos que vivan en el mis-mo hogar. También necesitamos de 4 a 6 voluntarios que se queden después de la Hora Santa para desinfectar las bancas de la iglesia.

Deducción benéfica especial para
2020
La “LEY CARES” prevé una deducción carita-
tiva especial este año (2020), incluso para los
contribuyentes que no detallan sus deduccio-
nes. Esta es una deducción especial única de
hasta $300 por contribuciones en efectivo
hechas este año a organizaciones calificadas
[501 (c) (3)], que son de propósito religioso,
caritativo, educativo, científico o literario. ¡La
Iglesia de San Patricio es una organización
calificada! La deducción básicamente reduci-
rá la cantidad de su ingreso imponible. Para
calificar, sus contribuciones deben entregar-
se este año. Si tiene alguna pregunta, asegú-

Capítulo General Hermanas Misioneras de MARILAM
El capítulo general es el máximo órgano de gobierno de una congregación religiosa, mientras duren las sesiones según lo establece el Derecho Canónico (631). Es convocado por la superiora general según el período determinado en las Constituciones de cada congregación. También, en nuestra congregación Misioneras de María de las Américas, MARILAM, es la asamblea de todas las hermanas, donde se da informe del mandato recibido del consejo saliente y donde se elige una nueva superiora y el consejo general de 4 hermanas que la secundan. Además, es donde a la luz del Espíritu Santo, se evalúan los desafíos y retos de la misión evangelizadora y se toman opciones para continuar respondiendo desde nuestro carisma al servicio misionero de la Iglesia (Const.MM #169). Todo este año 2020, las Hermanas hemos venido preparando nuestro IV Capítulo General, con retiros espirituales, oración, discernimiento y encuen-tros comunitarios, bajo el lema:
“MARILAM, Apasionada por el Evangelio, Vive tu Fecundidad en la Alegría de la Misión”.
Llega el momento de llevar a cabo esta asamblea electiva que será del 07 al 12 de diciembre, donde estaremos realizando nuestro IV Capítulo General, en el cual también quedará elegido el nuevo Consejo General y Superiora de nuestra congregación. Nos encomendamos a sus oraciones quer idos parroquianos, para que el Espíritu Santo sea el animador, el impulsor y nuestra brújula para este grande y bello acontecimiento.

¿Qué significa para nosotros Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe?
La historia nos cuenta que posteriormente del descubrimiento de América por Cristóbal Colon hubo saqueos, batallas sangrientas y deshumanizadas por la codicia de los conquistadores quienes el 21 de abril de 1521 llegaron a Veracruz en México, comandados por Hernán Cortés hombre español, militar enviado a estas tierras para hacerlas colonia de España. Los indígenas de este continente tenían sus propias creencias, eran politeístas, es decir creían en varios dioses pero sabían que nada era casualidad, sabían y sentían que todo lo creado era por un ser superior. Los conquistadores llegaron con sacerdotes, para catequizar a los indígenas, pero ¿cómo sería eso, quitar y cambiar sus costumbres, sus cultos y sus dioses por un Dios desconocido para ellos? Pues sus métodos fueron varios desde desaparecer lo que ellos veneraban; sus templos y sobre de ellos hacer construcciones con arquitectura española, como hasta la actualidad conocemos, dejando bajo la tierra, enterradas sus creencias y sus dioses. Todo esto se hizo a través de la fuerza, convirtiéndolos en esclavos y marcándoles el rostro con hierros candentes a los que no aceptaban la cultura religiosa que les daban, llegando incluso a la muerte de quienes no lo aceptaban, esto como escarmiento a lo que decían los conquistadores que debía de ser. Los métodos sin duda no eran los correctos. Así los indígenas conquistados, aceptaron por miedo lo dicho por los españoles, mas no por convicción, como aceptar el escuchar hablar de amor , oír de un Dios amoroso, cuidador, paternalista, milagroso, Hijo de una mujer humana de nombre María Madre de Dios Madre de Jesús, Madre del Salvador, Madre del Rey del Universo, muy difícil ¿verdad? Como entender lo que estos hombres hacían para que creyeran, humillándolos, lastimándolos; como cambiar todo lo que ellos creían, por algo que les decían unos hombres con estos métodos y muchos más, en un régimen militar comandado por un hombre, que para su fin justificaba los medios, Hernán Cortés. Este no era trabajo de hombres, se necesitaba algo más, se necesitaba quien justificara precisamente lo dicho por estos hombres, que, si bien llevaban la verdad, lo querían imponer por métodos lejanos a las enseñanzas de Jesucristo. Así en abril de 1521 a diciembre de 1531 es decir 10 años después de la llegada de los conquistadores y de su trabajo de colonización y enseñanzas, sucede uno de los más grandes milagros de la vida, el primero en el continente americano, la aparición de una mujer, de tez morena como la piel de los indígenas sometidos, con un semblante de paz y una voz tan dulce y amorosa como no hay otra igual, la Virgen de Guadalupe. ¿Cuál fue el plan de Dios? Jesús dijo “Vayan por todo el mundo y anuncien la Buena Nueva a toda la creación” (Mc. 16; 15) Pues dadas las circunstancias y echa la pr imera par te por los frailes españoles, llegó la Virgen María, Madre de Jesús personalmente, para entregarles la Buena Nueva de su hijo Jesús, todo esto con la participación de un indio de nombre Juan Diego, ahora Santo y el obispo Fray Juan de Zumárraga, fortaleciendo la conversión de un pueblo al cristianismo y logrando una tregua al evangelizar por amor y no por la fuerza como lo habían hecho sus enviados. Así como un 25 de diciembre, hace 2020 años atrás, nos entregó a su hijo Jesús, ahora lo hace aquí en América, en México, eligió un punto de partida para el norte y para el sur dándonos a conocer y entregándonos a su Hijo amado Jesucristo, como lo había hecho en Belén. Benditos acontecimientos, que nos dejan pensamientos como el de saber que el dolor es pedagógico y este dolor de enseñanza fue sanado por la Madre de Dios aquí llamada Virgen de Guadalupe, Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe, quien vino a dar paz a los hombres y mujeres de este continente y entregarnos a su hijo Jesucristo nuestro Dios.
