December 2020

Every church, regardless of size or resources, has a role to play in reaching every nation.

Your generosity through praying and giving are the lifeblood of Southern Baptist missions.

PRAY and GIVE

Your prayers and gifts are bringing the HOPE of the GOSPEL to a WORLD in need.

Information from the IMB Global Impact Guide www.imb.org/lottie-moon-christmas-offering-resources

time, missionaries bring much-needed expertise to rural areas and, often, marginalized people.

Job Training—Life changing opportunities can come in the form of learning new skills to those trapped in poverty.

Learning a viable trade often means an escape from a life of exploitation.

Medical Needs—Unreached communities can often be accessed through medical workers providing desperately needed

healthcare in hard-to-reach places.

Refugee Care—The modern refugee crisis provides unparalleled opportunities to meet the basic needs of individuals and

families in biblically mandated mercy ministries while sharing the gospel.

Montvue Baptist Church

Celebrates

100th Anniversary

Pastor Lance Cummings receives a TBMB plaque from David Hawkins, Nolachucky Director of Missions, in recognition of the 100th Anniversary of Montvue Baptist Church.

Do you love working with senior adults? Are you a good listener or encourager? Do you have three hours during the week to help others who may be lonely or needy? Then you will want to be involved in this new ministry opportunity.

The Tennessee Baptist Mission Board is working with the Governor’s Office of Faith Based Initiatives and the Tennessee Commission on Aging and Disability on a call line for Senior Adults called the Tennes-see Hope Line. The line will be used for Senior Adults (age 60 and up) to call in if they are lonely, need assistance in some way, or need to talk.

Volunteers are needed to answer the phone line Monday through Friday, 9:00 AM-3:00 PM central. It is hoped that a volunteer will only serve one 3-hour period a week, and maybe less. Volunteers must apply to be a TN Hope Line Volunteer by filling out a volunteer application at: https://www.tnbaptist.org/wp-content/uploads/2020/11/TN-Hope-Line-Volunteer-Application.pdf, sub-mitting to a background screening, and completing TN Hope Line Training. Email Carrie Kidd, [email protected], TBMB Compassion Ministries assistant, for more information about the TN Hope Line.

Campus Ministries Department is looking for churches to host students during our Spring Break Missions Project Eagle.

We would like to have a ministry opportunity for our students to be involved each day of our Spring Break — March 8-12.

Consider allowing these students to bless your church by working on mission projects that might include cleaning, construction, food distribution, helping senior adults, or other needs your church might propose. You can host students for one day or a project for the entire time. Let us know the number that would be required and the type of work students would be doing. If you are able to provide lunch for the students, please let us know. The students will be staying on the campus at Carson-Newman, so there is no need for overnight accommodations.

For questions and further information, please contact Haley Brooke Owens at [email protected] or call & leave her a message at Carson -Newman Baptist Campus Ministries Office at 865-471-3537 (Offices will be closed from December 18, 2020 through January 4, 2021)

New Creation Community Outreach Church serves many homeless people and is in need of WINTER ITEMS such as: coats, hats, gloves, hand warmers, insulated socks, scarfs, and boots. They can always use

more blankets, sleeping bags, and tents. There are a lot of children on the streets as well as men in their seventies. For more infor-mation about this church and ministry, see their website www.NewCreationCommunityOutreach.com, the Facebook page, or contact Pastor Jeff Davis at [email protected] or by cell 219-484-5029.

Shepherd Care is a tool focused on the spiritual, emotional, physical and financial health of pastors and ministry leaders. TBMB has entered a relationship with three regional Christian counseling centers to provide one free consultation for any pastor, pastor’s wife, or other ministerial church staff or wife who stands in need of a professionally trained Christian counselor due to stress or a “dark night of the soul.”

Our desire is that Shepherd Care will provide a lifeline of help and hope for ministers and spouses who are experiencing burn-out or other emotionally heavy bouts of discouragement, depression, dark-ness, or despair. The Shepherd Care helpline, 1-833-55Peace, goes directly to TBMB’s Pastor Engagement team, who will authorize the initial consultation to a counselor near you. All calls are strictly confidential.

The Fellowship of Tennessee Baptist Vocational Evangelists are plan-ning special One Day Revival/Evangelism emphasis for January. The day of focus for East Tennessee will be January 24, 2021. Churches that plan evangelistic events and are intentional in preparing for them witness more people being baptized. The evangelist will be glad to work with you on ideas for your special day. If you have questions, call or email Jarrett Scott at 615-371-7933 or [email protected].

floor. The lady was very happy with the help she received as she no longer worries about falling through the floor.

Disaster Relief Volunteers Continue to Meet Needs

East TN Disaster Relief volunteers assisted with demolition of a fire-damaged home in Bean Station recently.

Right: More supplies shipped to hurricane victims in Louisiana in November.

Children in an orphanage in Bethlehem, Israel received blankets recently via the Joseph Project, a partner with Harvest of Israel.
