A Christmas Tree In Need of Ornaments! There is a new tree in the Academy building in need

of Christmas ornaments. As a church family, letsdecorate it together.

Each household inthe church is invited tobring an ornament to

hang on this tree. Theornament you bringcould be homemade, have a family picture onit or name, include theyear, or be somethingspecial that representsyou or your family.

As we collect theseornaments, we will keepthem at the church andeach year take them out and hang them on the tree. Whata great tradition to begin as a church family!

World Christianity in the Douglass ClassIn November the Douglass Class has been studying

issues that face World-wideChristianity. Each week wehave looked at an issue ofconcern raised by a churchleader from a different partof the world. Heres what

    weve looked at so far:o

We studied povertythrough the eyes ofa church leader in Geneva, Switzerland, whoguided our discussion about how we respond topoverty in our own communities.

o A church leader from the Presbyterian-Reformed Church of Cuba guided ourdiscussion in a study called, Living in theShadow of Giants. She helped us reflect onglobal, economic, historical, and social factorsthat Christian in the Caribbean face everyday.

o A church leader from Australia challenged uswith a study about Sabbath rest for all creation. Our environmental responsibilities, she writes, are grounded in our sense of Sabbath forcreation.

In the remaining lessons of this study we will alsohear from a church leader in Indonesia who reflects onthe value of local customs in Christian worship. Achurch leader in India will guide us in a discussionabout what its like when Christianity is the minority

voice in society. A church leader from Lebanon willreflect on the hope for peace in the midst of violenceand a minister from South Africa writes about HIV andpoverty.

Please join us for a good discussion, which includesa time to see the larger picture of the world-wideChristianity and hear the way church leaders fromaround the world understand the Biblical call to faithfulliving.

Youth Group Notes This past month the youth group has been gettingready for the New Year. They have started a contest fora name. There have been a variety of entries, andanyone is eligible to propose a name. If you have aname please enter it. It could become the new name forPisgahs Youth Group.

Also the youth group has had some bondingactivities. These included a trip to Champs. Champsis askating ring/laser tag arena. The Pisgah youth grouphad a great time. Also, several of Pisgahs youth grouphad a bonfire. We hope to see you at the Moravian

Lovefeast, December 2. The youth assisted in trimmingthe candles for this event.Mason Hill

On Sunday, November 11, the Youth Group met atPisgah for dinner, games and scripture. We started theevening playing corn hole and making hobo packs (meatand vegetables in a tin foil case that you cook over afire). We moved down to the fire pit behind the churchfor snacks and to start the bonfire, also we put our hobopacks on the rocks around the fire to start cooking. Itstarted to pour down rain so we took shelter under thestorage shed and did our lesson (5th commandment-Honor Your Father and Your Mother) while waitingfor the rain to pass. Luckily our fire was so hot, it didntgo out. We ate our dinner and toasted marshmallows forsmores until it was time to go home.

DCE NotesFirst and foremost, I want to wish you a Merry

Christmas! I hope that you and your family have awonderful and blessed holiday. I have to admit though,it seems a bit strange to write this greeting to you, as it issunny, 56 degrees and there are still leaves on the trees.

But December is here and as we enter into Advent, I

hope that you and your family will be part of the holidayactivities offered at Pisgah. For me, one of the nicest things is when we see the

children and youth involved as worship leaders. Thisyear, our Sunday School classes have been asked to takepart in the lighting of the Advent Wreath:

December 2 -- will be Younger Elementary classes, ofPreschool through First Grade with their teachers,Lesley Kindred, Kelly Hill and Jamie Robida

December 9 -- will be Upper Elementary, Secondthrough Fifth Grades with their teachers, Janet Lakeand Linda Scott

December 16 -- Middle School with teacher RachaelBrooks

December 23 -- High School with teacher CathyJohnson

The elementary children have also been learning aspecial piece of music for the Moravian Love Feast onDecember 2. I know we all enjoy it when we hear their

voices singing with joy.Do you enjoy baking? I

have to admit that this is notone of my favorite pastimes;however, I do love COOKIE

EXCHANGES! To me, that ispart of the magic ofChristmas! Bring one kind andpoof ! leave with a variety. (Just

kidding). Seriously though, if you would like toparticipate in a cookie exchange on the morning ofDecember 16you are invited to do so. Make a batch(batch=2 dozen) of one kind of your favorite Christmascookie and leave with a batch (24) of assorted cookies.

All the cookies submitted should be home-made. Thisis open to anyone who bakesmale, female, adult orchild.

I am also pleased that we have 25 children andyouth involved with the play Christmas Windows that

will be presented on the evening of December 16. Thisyear we also have some adults taking roles and so itlooks to be an enjoyable evening for all. Infant BrodyMancuso will be the Baby Jesus! Plan to join us for theplay at 5:30p.m. and then go to the Academy Buildingfor holiday finger foods. Bring an appetizer or dessert(perhaps a plate of assorted cookies) to share.

In the area of Christian Education, we will continueto offer regular Sunday School classes for all agesthrough December 16. As you may have already heard,

there will be only one worship service at 11:00 am on

December 23 and 30. HOWEVER, on December 23,there will be a SIP AND SING combined gathering inthe Academy Building for all ages at 10:00a.m. Comeand enjoy a cup of hot chocolate, candy canes, specialtreats and festive singing.

There will be no Sunday School on December 30.Whatever the weather may be outside, may the Spirit

of Christmas dwell within your heart as together weanticipate and celebrate the birth of our Lord and Savior.

Again and always, I wish you a Merry Christmas.Sue
