What is Stewardship?During the month of October and early November

    we will be focusing onstewardship.

I know many people feelthis is just another word fortalking about money and giving. But stewardship is much morethan that!!

A steward is someone who has been entrusted withthe care and management of someone elses property. He is charged with the responsibility of not merelyguarding or protecting the property entrusted to him, butalso his real task is to manage and invest the ownersproperty so it grows and produces a good return.

Jesus made this abundantly clear in the parable ofthe talents (Matthew 24:14-30). He was most severe inhis condemnation of the servant who buried the onetalent given to him and called him a wicked and lazyservant.

This should be a wake up call to the Christians whobury their talents by just sitting in a pew year afteryear!

We are all stewards! We are called to invest the giftswe have received! Friends, every breath we take is a gift.Life is a gift!! We did not create it, we do not possess it!!

So what are we to do as caretakers of what God

entrusts to us?At the very least, we are to be careful and delight in

the use of the gifts given to us.

We are to give back to the Owner that whichbelongs to Him (the Biblical standard is 10%).

We are to be grateful always for the gifts entrustedto us.

We are to share these gifts with others especiallythose in need!

The Stewardship season is much more than merelytrying to raise enough money to cover a budget.

It is a serious time of self examination and reflectionabout what we are really doing with the beautiful gifts oftime, talents, and possessions that God has given us.

I trust we will all evaluate what we are doing withthese gifts! They belong to God; we are privileged to beentrusted with them! Lets invest them wisely for HisKingdom!

    Faithfully,Vic Priebe

    Congratulations!

I sat down today andcounted the number ofpeople who contributed sograciously of their time andtalent to insure the success ofour 225th Celebration. Intotal, the number exceeded 70names, which represents wellover a third of our current church membership. What agenerous outpouring of support! -- and all because, I amconvinced, we love God, treasure our church, and honorall those who have served and protected her interests inthe past. Perhaps the greatest residual from our 2-dayevent has been a renewed sense of pride and excitement.

My fervent prayer is that we can not only keep thatspirit alive, but build on it. Then, there would be noobstacle we couldn't face, or limitation we couldn'tovercome. Such success would be cause for anothercelebration, which I would be glad to chair. Why not?

What fun!Thank you for making my job on this one so easy.

    Sincerely,Jim Rodgers

    Greetings from Mission & Evangelism

September seems to have taken wings! We areblessed to be able to give to the following organizationsthis month: $250.00 to Faith Pharmacy, $125 to thePastoral Emergency Fund, and $350 to OperationChristmas Child. We were excited to support a missiontrip by Abe and Sue Fosson to Patagonia Bible Collegein February ($1000 for supplies to be used at the

college).Speaking of Operation Christmas Child, Donna

Lawrence is once again organizing the project and hascome up with a terrific idea. Inaddition to asking the Youth Groupto wrap the shoe boxes, sheresearched and found that somechurches also host dinner parties toencourage donations. This year atPisgah we will be asking members to do somethingsimilar and we call it a Shoebox Social. We would liketo take the opportunity to invite your friends and family

to our church. We are asking that you host a dinner orsupper party on November the 8th, have your guestsbring a shoebox or shoebox supplies and then bring yourguests and their shoeboxes to the Academy Building fordessert and a time of fellowship. Dessert begins at7:30p.m. Please join us in this effort to brighten the livesof less fortunate children this Christmas. Dessert is ourtreat!!

For the last three years yourM & E committee has beentrying to come up with a suitable

way to honor our soldiers and veterans. Donna Lawrence,Bobbi Sweeney and Tessa Dolehave collaborated on a projectthat will begin in early October

and end on Sunday, October 30 just before VeteransDay.

    1) Pisgah Church will send a Pisgah Bag (visitor bag)to any active duty serviceman/woman connected toour church or on our prayer list. The bag will containa Bible, Pisgah pens, mugs (if allowed), toiletries, snacks, stationary packets, phone cards, and include abeanie baby to hand out to children they may

encounter.2) Names of inactive or stateside soldiers will besolicited from the congregation and we will be writingthem notes of appreciation and encouragement.

Would you please choose a name from the list you willfind in the bulletin and write a note? You may placeyour notes in the Narthex in a special collectionbasket.

    3) The last way we would like to honor those thathave served our country is by working with the

Thomson Hood Veterans' Center. It has 265 longterm patients, 16 of whom are women. Many arrive

from the Leestown Road Veterans facility. They are

in great need of sweatshirts, pocket t-shirts, pajamapants, socks with grips, in M, L, XL. Please help usshare our "tunics" with these former soldiers. Whenyou are shopping, check out Kroger, K Mart, Walmart, etc. for sales on these items and consider contributing.

A large box will be placed in the Academy Building forcollection of items. We will collect thru October anddeliver the "tunics" for November's Veterans' Day.

May God bless and keep you in this beautiful fallseason.Your M & E Committee

    Mary Shepherd Circle

Don't forget all women are invited to the MaryShepherd Circle meeting November 3 at 10:00a.m. in the

Academy Building. Linda Kuder will be teaching thelesson: Chapter 3 in the Joshua workbook. Hope to seeyou there.

    A Note from the AdministrationCommittee

I dont know about you but I am trying to figure outwhere this year has gone. It has flown by for me as I amsure it has for many of you.

As we move into autumn our financial situation stilllooks pretty good. The September 15, 2009 treasurers

report shows our total income at 76% of budget while we are 71% of the way through the year. This meanseveryone did a good job making sure we did not havethe typical summer drop off in giving we have seen inyears past.

We are still looking good on the expense side as well. Our expenses are at 58% of budget and we are71% of the way through the year. All of our committeeshave done an outstanding job holding down expensesthis year and it is paying off.

There can be no doubt that the people of Pisgahhave strongly supported our church this year. Many

churches are running with deficits this year due to theeconomy. We should be proud of our congregation fortheir strong show of support this year in monetary givingas well as time and talent.

It is time for us to look ahead to our stewardshipseason which will be here in November. Let us all takethe time reflect on what we feel called to give monetarilyas well as with time and talent. This has been a goodyear for Pisgah, lets make next year better!
