2004-06 Principal Investigator, Department of Veterans Affairs, “Collaboration Between VA and

Academic Experts in Implementation Research.” The overall purpose of these project activities

was to establish internal expertise at VERDICT for pursuing research using the theoretical lenses

of complexity science and knowledge management.

1998 Principal Investigator, Texas Institute for Health Policy Research Grant, “Identification of

Service Option Strategies for Health Care Providers in Texas.” This project was designed to

identify strategic options for service delivery in health care through a series of focus groups,

forums and symposiums.

1994-97 Collaborating Investigator (Principal Investigator, Ruth A. Anderson, School of Nursing,

The University of Texas at Austin), Three year National Institutes of Health Grant,“ Outcomes of

Nursing Management Practice in Nursing Homes.” The goal of this project was to explore the

relationships between nursing management practice and contextual factors and their independent

and joint influence on patient outcomes, staff outcomes and financial outcomes in nursing homes.

1991, Principal investigator, FADRC Summer Research Grant, "Participation of Executives in

Strategic Decision Making." The goal of this project was to examine two competing hypotheses

about the participation of executives in strategic decision making.

1991, Principal investigator, URI Special Research Grant, "Study of Strategic Decision Processes

in Hospitals." The goal of this project was to collect data on strategic decision making processes

in hospitals.

1989-90, Principal investigator (with Ruth A. Anderson, School of Nursing), Commonwealth Fund

Project, "Graduate Joint Degree Program in Nursing and Management." The goal of this project

was to develop and market a joint MBA/MSN graduate degree for the preparation of health care

executives.

1985-86, Principal investigator, IBM Quest Project, "Use of IBM PCs to Support Strategic

Planning and Policy." The goal of this project was to develop software for use by executives to

support policy analysis activities.

1981-82, Principal investigator, policy analysis development project for the Texas Department of

Human Resources. The goals of this project were to: provide for the development and

improvement of policy analysis at TDHR and to provide for the development and integration of a

Decision Support System for policy analysis in TDHR, thereby enhancing the information

environment for decision makers.
