Ryan Seacrest is the host of American Idol and also has his own radio show. Whoever takes Oprah’s place knows that if they are chosen they have big shoes to fill. In a survey taken at North Forsyth, six out of ten people voted for Queen Latifah, one for Ryan Seacrest, and three for Tyra Banks. Jenny McCartney received no votes. Oprah is not done with her career though. She’s leaving her show to start her own television network, the Oprah Winfrey Network. Oprah is going out with a bang in her last season, and she didn’t start her last premiere without a surprise. She paid for her whole studio audience to go on an all expense paid eight day trip to Australia. To find someone capable of filling her shoes is easier said than done. Oprah has beenan entertainer and an idol to the world for many years. She is very active in charity work and helping children. Oprah has gone to third world countries to help children by building schools so they can get an education. In order for a show to be as successful as Oprah’s, the host or hostess has to be an important public figure, well known on world topics, and frequently involved in charity, much as Oprah is. Seventeen Again Lawrence: “I was one of the top students in my class during high school, and I won the senior award given annually to the student who best represented the ideals of my school. It was an honor given for service to the school as well as academic achievement. I worked very hard but loved the activities I was a part of. Senior year I was a representative on student council. I was in the school musical. I volunteered with our service group, helped with yearbook, and was editor of the school literary magazine. I also held two part-time jobs after school and on weekends, which kept me very busy. I had no romances during high school, allowing me to award more time to my jobs and extra-curricular activities. I had a great senior year with no regrets. The highlight of the year was a trip I took with my mentor to London, Paris Munich, and Istanbul over spring break. Principal Bass, Ms. Hernandez, and Mrs. Lawrence were questioned by The Norland about their lives at age seventeen. Mrs.Lawrence, a Latin teacher at North Forsyth, talks about her many accomplishments as a senior. Principal Bass shares his experience as a successful senior in high school. Hernandez: “At the age of seventeen I was a senior in high school. During that year I was drum major of the marching band, and I worked part-time at a bridal store. I spent a lot of time applying for colleges and working hard to maintain my grades. School has always been very important to me. Throughout my high school career I was very determined to make my high school resume the ideal pick for any college and senior year was no different. Aside from school I enjoyed reading, hiking, and spending time with loved ones. While I was seventeen, the two most important events were my high school graduation and my departure from home to college. My parents were so proud! Everything they had worked so hard for finally paid off as I was the first person in my family to attend college. Looking back, being seventeen was a lot of hard work, but in the end it definitely paid off!” Bass: “I was a senior in high school when I was seventeen.
