DC Science Assessment Accessibility System

Accessibility Features available to all students

Accommodations

ELL IEP/ 504

Features that all students can access at any time, no documentation required.

Additional features are available to any student and must be identified on the student’s PNP.

Certain accommodations are available only to students with disabilities with IEPs or 504 plans. Other accommodations are available only for English Learners. Accommodations must be documented in the IEP/504/ELL plan, and also in the student’s PNP where applicable.

• Some PARCC accommodations will not be available for use on DC Science.

• For a student who needs one (or more) of these accommodations, ensure the student receives the appropriate equivalent accommodation.

• The IEP does NOT need to be amended if the student’s needs have not changed since PARCC testing.

• Some accommodations are not available on the DC Science Assessment. Use the Testing Accommodations Guide - Part I to identify these accommodations.

Q: What if a student’s IEP team decides s/he needs an accommodation that is not listed in SEDS?

A: The IEP team should document it on the IEP in the “Unique Accommodations” box. Also, the LEA must submit a Unique Accommodations Request to OSSE for approval via the OSSE Support Tool (OST). DCPS schools should submit requests to the DCPS central office.

For ELs who need assistance with directions, the Test Administrator is permitted to:

– Read the instructions out loud in English

– Repeat the instructions in English

– Clarify the instructions in the student’s native language

Please note: The PNP does not capture ALL accommodations that an EL may receive.

However, the student’s EL Plan should document ALL accommodations assigned to the student and ALL assigned accommodations should be made available during the test.

• Step 1: Verify student registrations in PearsonAccessnext

• Step 3: Order paper forms

• Step 4: Determine test schedule – Administer Part 1 and Part 2 in the same day or on separate days

• Step 4: Create test schedule and submit to OSSE in the School Test Security Plan Tool – School plans are due 15 days prior to the start of testing

• Step 5: Setup test sessions in PearsonAccessnext – Main sessions

• Constructed response items are not scored for accuracy of grammar, but are scored for content of response

• DC Science does not have Text-to-Speech (TTS)

• DC Science does not have American Sign Language (ASL)

• DC Science does not use Unit Testing

• DC Science does not require return of paper test books

• DC Science will use audio forms

• DC Science will have specific test session types that assign forms to students in that session

• DC Science will require transcription of paper tests into TestNav

DC Science Personal Needs Profile (PNP)

The Personal Needs Profile (PNP) is part of the student registration process for DC Science.

• The PNP is the primary source of documentation of a student’s testing conditions, including accommodations.

• Unlike PARCC, the DC Science PNP does not generate forms or assign student materials.

Forms are assigned by placing students in test sessions. The following session types are available in PearsonAccessnext:

– Main sessions

– Read-aloud sessions

– Transcribed sessions

– Audio sessions

There are two methods for creating a Personal Needs Profile File for students:

1. PNP File Layout Import LEA populates an Excel template provided by Pearson, for a mass upload

2. User Interface LEA staff member or schools fills out the PNP for an individual student using PearsonAccessnext

Seal codes are needed for students to get from Part 1 to Part 2 of the assessment. Seal codes are generated at the session level, and all students in a session will use the same seal code. Student testing tickets can be downloaded from the “Students in Session” page under “Resources.” Proctor testing tickets will be needed for read aloud sessions to allow the proctor to log in and view the test content on his/her own computer screen.

If a student exits the test before completion and needs to log back into TestNav, the student will first need to be resumed in PearsonAccessnext There are two ways to Resume students: • Resume a student individually by clicking on the

drop down arrow next to Exited and Active status students.

• Select “Resume Student Tests” in the Select Tasks menu.

If a student will be taking Part 2 before Part 1, “Set Section Start” should be selected. Once a student completes Part 2, s/he will need to be moved back to Part 1, using “Set Section Start” again.

– Transcription should be completed as soon as possible, but will need to be complete prior to the close of the testing window

– Test books and materials must be collected and kept in a secure location when students are not testing
