As a school community we are honoured to be selected as the one school in the Ingham District that the Vice-Regal party are visiting. In preparation for this event we are busy clarifying protocols, establishing social distance practices and finalising the run sheet of our obligations. The Vice-Regal Party will attend a whole school parade and visit the year 6 classes to perform a question and answer session. Personally, I am honoured to have the opportunity to welcome The Governor, who is the Queen’s representative in Queensland to Ingham State School. I know our students will do us proud as they represent the school on such an auspicious occasion. Last week we welcomed a new Chaplain to Ingham State School. Innocent Muchirahondo has been appointed to work at our school each Wednesday and Thursday to provide social, emotional and spiritual support to students, parents and staff. Chaplains are a support person who are available to help students find a way to deal with life’s issues and provide a listening ear and a caring presence. Innocent has already had an impact within the school as he has integrated into HPE classes and worked with students during lunch breaks. I encourage all students to make themselves known to Chappy Innocent and talk about how he may be able to support them in class, during play or with other matters outside of school. On a less positive note I wish to make all parents, guardians and students aware of a concerning trend which has presented distress over the past few weeks. Students have been sharing, swapping or giving other students personal items, which have created problems when the items are not returned to the rightful owner or the items are damaged or lost. I refer to students allowing another student to share items such as a watch, wristbands, hair bands and water bottles. On several occasions, we have investigated such happenings, which have resulted in students and parents becoming very upset when the items cannot be returned. As a school we have addressed this matter with students and now I ask parents to monitor the items children may bring to school and outline the potential problems of bringing valuable items to school. Hygiene concerns with sharing personal items is a major concern especially during the current COVID-19 concerns. Whilst I am confident in the manner in which we have been able to manage the hygiene standards in the school we must not relax our practices and continue to reinforce the need to wash hands, sanitise regularly and exercise sneeze/cough protocols. I am closely monitoring the COVID data coming out of the southern states and it is very obvious we must keep fighting to keep our community healthy. As a reminder to our school community, if you are sick with flu like symptoms please follow the steps below to care for yourself and to help protect other people in your home and community: Stay home. Most people with mild illness can recover at home, do not leave your home, except to get medical care. Do not visit public areas. Notify the school. Contact the school to notify of the student absence and give details if COVID-19 testing is required. Take care of yourself. Get rest and stay hydrated. Take over-the-counter medicines to help you feel better. Stay in touch with your doctor. Call before you get medical care. Be sure to get care if you have trouble breathing, or have any other emergency warning signs , or if you think it is an emergency . Thank you for your cooperation in managing the topics I have addressed above. I am a strong believer in the saying ‘it takes a team to raise a child’ and we are all a part of the ISS team. 29th July 2020

Friday this week will be a very significant occasion for Ingham State School when the Governor of Queensland, His Excellency the Honourable Paul de Jersey and fellow dignitaries make an official visit to our school. Last week we welcomed a new Chaplain to Ingham State School. Instrumental Music

Lesson DaysWoodwind/Brass with Mrs Gunston – Thursday Strings with Mrs Wright – Wednesday afternoon (Year 4’s) and Friday

A reminder that our ensemble rehearsals will resume this week and will commence at 8 am on both Thursday mornings (Woodwind / Brass students) and Friday mornings (String students). To ensure that we are complying with the current COVID-19 Operating Guidelines for State Schools, all ensemble rehearsals for Woodwind/Brass and String students will take place before school upstairs in the Activities Hall, where we will have a larger space to work in, and be able to provide a safe distance between students during rehearsals. Please remember that it is a requirement for all students who are learning an instrument as part of the instrumental music program to attend all ensemble rehearsals.

As we will be trying to avoid the sharing of music stands, if any instrumental student has a music stand that they are able to bring from home to use during ensemble rehearsals, it would be greatly appreciated.

Mrs Wright and Mrs Gunston

Choir

Our first choir rehearsal last Wednesday went very well! All of the students remembered the song that we had started working on at the beginning of the year, and they did a wonderful job of blending their voices, even though the students were sitting further away from each other than usual. Choir rehearsals will continue to be held on Wednesday’s during first lunch up in the Activities Hall, so students can safely distance themselves from other students as per the current COVID-19 guidelines. Any student in Years 3-6 is welcome to come and join Choir, even if they missed last week’s rehearsal! If you have any questions regarding the school choir, please contact Mrs Gunston.
