What are ways that we can take the mood of the artwork and create a parody with similar mood?

Procedure:Day 1

1. Students will watch a power point on Botero and artwork parodies2. Students will then watch another power point on some of the most famous

paintings (power point will be left on loop)3. Students will look at my sample and a few other samples of artwork parodies4. I will then give a brief demonstration on drawing and using colored pencils5. Students will begin doing research to decide what artwork they would like to alter

and in what ways6. Students will research the mood of the work of art and the title, artist, medium,

date, and artistic movement of the piece7. They will then start by taking a piece of paper and pencil and lightly sketching out

the work of art.Day 2-5

8. Students will then go in to the piece and erase the parts that will be altered9. After everything is properly drawn out students will apply colored pencils to the

piece10. Students will finish with mounting their paper on to mat board and completing

their assessment sheet

Closure: As the lesson is beginning to wrap up, students will present their work to the class talking about the famous artwork that they altered and in what way they chose to do that. I will ask the class questions such as: What did you learn about art history? Which work was your favorite? What artist is your favorite? What is value? Baroque art? Complimentary colors? What does mixing complimentary colors do? This project will be a good transition into the complimentary colors still life drawing.

Assessment: Class participation Effort Following all the directions

Modifications: Time extension Assistance with drawing If necessary, students may use other dry mediums such as oil and chalk pastel,

marker (if completely necessary), or pen and ink More assistance with drawing figures and portraits
