ISSUE #9 3 April 2020

Dear Parents and Community Members, I hope that all families are doing okay at home as the directions from government around gathering and social distancing have been tightened even further over the past week. While these expectations are far from normal and will certainly require a great deal of patience to enact, hopefully the result is a positive one with minimising the impact of COVID-19 on our families.

Thank you to parents for their continued support and cooperation with the attendance directives put in place for schools. This has certainly helped a great deal at a school level and has allowed staff to focus on planning for the end of this term and what term two may look like. At this stage, it would appear that schools will need to operate quite differently. I briefly touched on this in last week’s newsletter and mentioned the need to look at having an online presence. As a school we have elected to use the Seesaw platform as an additional means of communicating with students and families. A number of families are already familiar with this platform. What we would like to ensure now is that all families that have the capacity to join Seesaw do so as quickly as possible. This will then assist with ensuring that class communications between school and home are maintained. Each student will receive an individual code that they will need to use to log onto Seesaw Class. This is a little different from the Family Seesaw access. Codes will be sent to parents via mobile text along with detailed instructions on how to do this soon. Please ensure that your child’s code is kept safely just as you would for a password. If parents have any difficulties with using the code or accessing Seesaw, please contact the school.

In addition to this staff are also putting together a “Just in Case” pack! This pack will contain additional paper, resources and some further activities as well as items that the classroom teacher would like students to have at home. These packs will be available from your child’s classroom. To spread out parents with the collection of these packs, parents are requested to go online at the School Interview site and book a collection time and day. Packs will be available on Wednesday and Thursday next week. At this time parents may also like to collect their child’s personal stationary items such as pencil case, ruler, calculator, headphones and the like. Please note that this will all need to be carried out in as short a time as possible. Staff will not be available for interviews/chats during this time. Parents who may have more than one child at school need only to book the one time and collect their children’s packs from all classrooms as required. Please see inside for details on how to book a collection time.

I would like to reassure parents that the information we are providing both in hard copy and online is a guide to home learning only. There is no expectation that your home needs to be run as a classroom or that all of the work outlined by your child’s teacher needs to be completed. Everything that we are putting in place is a guide to help you through these different circumstances. So, it doesn’t matter if your technology is not working or your children don’t complete the suggested activities. What does matter is the health and well-being of yourself and your children; that you are involved in engaging and fun activities other than the school curriculum. Make time for cooking, playing games, doing jigsaws, reading and lots of imaginative free play as well as physical exercise. Ensure that you continue social connections with friends and relatives. Dalmain P&C News

With everything being turned upside down in our worlds and many of us home schooling the P&C have had to cancel, postpone and rearrange events and fundraisers. Fortunately our Easter Raffle, a well loved Dalmain tradition, was able to be modified and run. We would like to thank everyone that has contributed to our prizes and for all the entries we have received. Our raffle has been drawn and winners notified today. We hope you are staying safe and enjoying the extra family time.
