ASSEMBLY TA 2 - NEW MACDONALD HAD A FARM Miss King and the students from TA 2 are to be commended for an outstanding assembly this morning.

The children clearly understood the danger of using pesticides in farming and had an experiment using potatoes to demonstrate their findings – organic is best! The costumes, props and scenery all added to the ambience and created a wonderful spectacle. The children spoke with confidence and aplomb and were a credit to their teacher and very proud family members. Once again a fantastic assembly TA 2. Mr Brett Cowey, a parent at Dalmain, has devised a plan for the basketball court adjacent to the ECE block which will incorporate an orchard, vegetable garden, worm shed and chicken coop – see inside this newsletter for his proposed plan. The Year 6 students will be working with Brett making compost to his original recipe and the worm wizz produced by our worm farm will be on sale at every assembly. Dear Parents and Families

Reading is the most important skill you can teach a child. Of all the

skills children learn, it is the one you can influence the most.

We invite you to visit our Scholastic Book Fair in the library at Dalmain Primary School and experience a

celebration of reading that provides families the opportunity to get involved in a universal mission:

encouraging kids to open a world of possibilities.

Our Scholastic Book Fair theme – Kings, Queens and Castles: Enter the Kingdom of Books! – surrounds

students in the celebration of reading with hundreds of fun, engaging, affordable books for them to

discover. Giving kids access to good books and the opportunity to choose their own books will motivate

them to read more, and like most acquired skills, the more children practice reading, the more

confident they will become.

Reading is vital to every child’s success, and raising children as readers means getting involved while

they’re young. Now is the time. Since there will never be a substitute for a parent’s direct involvement

in his/her child’s education, please make plans to visit our Book Fair. Hope to see you there!

Book Fair Dates: Tuesday, 16 June - Wednesday, 17 June

Shopping Hours: 8.00am - 3.30pm (in the library)

Special Events: Family Event - Wednesday, 17 June (6.00pm - 7.30pm)

In TA 5 we have been looking after the school worm farm. We have been feeding the worms. They like to eat fruit scraps from pre-primary. We have to chop the scraps up with a spade to cut it into small pieces so the worms can eat it. We water the farm after we have fezd the worms because they like to stay moist. We have been putting newspaper in the worm farm too. We collect worm wiz in big 2 litre milk and juice bottles. The worm wizz is great for your plants and garden. We will be selling it sometimes at the school assembly. We have collected a lot of worm wizz over the past few weeks. We are selling it for $2 a bottle. We enjoy looking after the worms but it’s a big responsibility.
