He sang, his brother Matt played guitar, and their dog, Oscar, played the drums. Together, they sounded great. They were practicing their favorite song one last time when Oscar suddenly yelped and put his left front paw in his mouth. "What's wrong, Oscar?" Mark asked. "I got a piece of wood from my drumstick stuck in my paw," Oscar whimpered. "Oh no!" Matt cried. "Without Oscar, we'll never win!" "Let's take you to Dr. Sato," Mark said. He knew they needed a vet's services to fix Oscar's paw. Many sick animals were waiting to see Dr. Sato. Besides not feeling well, the animals were very bored. It took a long time to see Dr. Sato. Finally it was Oscar's turn. Dr. Sato looked at Oscar's paw to see what was wrong with it. Then she dug through her tools and picked up a pair of tweezers. Gently she pulled the piece of wood out. Then she put a bandage on his sore paw. "That's much better, Dr. Sato!" Oscar said. "What can I do to thank you?" "You don't have to thank me," she smiled. "Helping animals like you is my career. It's work I love to do." Matt, Mark, and Oscar raced to the contest. They arrived just as it was their turn to play. Everyone cheered, and they won first place. "I'm glad we won," Oscar said. "And I just thought of something we can do to thank Dr. Sato." They rushed back to Dr. Sato's office and began playing their song. Now the animals waiting to see her were not bored anymore. And they felt better too. They were smiling and dancing to the music. "Thanks!" Dr. Sato said. "It looks like you are good at helping animals too!"
