Check repeatability in all courses – all should be 1. Discussion took place about which minor revisions would be made by the Office of Student Learning staff after second reading. Teresa clarified that the minor changes would be at her direction to the staff. The committee gave consent for minor revisions to be made.

CRM R100 – Substantive changes were made.

CRM R102A – Substantive changes were made. CRM R102E – Substantive changes were made. (Minor revision: “Kitchen maintenance and care IS stressed.”) CRM R106 – Substantive changes were made. CRM R107 – Substantive changes were made. CRM R113 – Substantive changes were made. CRM R116 – Substantive changes were made. (Minor revision: III.B. “recording processes in for inventories.”) PLS R041 – Substantive changes were made. PLS R102 – Substantive changes were made. PLS R103 – Substantive changes were made. TV R107 – Substantive changes still needed. Outside Assign. – need more details; too sparse. Shannon said we could propose this to UCs, so need to beef it up to be approved for IGETC. Shannon will get examples to Andres. I.B. Recommend that you justify the creation of this course - why do they need it? Is it required for particular majors at the CSU? It is also a GE course. This is where you make your case for why it is important. VI.C. Typical Graded Assignments needs to give examples. This course should be a UC transferable course so they will be looking for rigor throughout this outline. I would make the whole outline more robust. Not approved – sent back to originator.

Alex Lynch presented the CNIT courses. He is pulling Computer Networking/IT out from the rest of the Tech area. Committee comment: Course outline should not indicate how it is offered, such as hybrid, online, etc.

Andres Orozco presented the TV courses.

TV R102 – Introduction to Live Production in Video – Non-substantial change.

Changes Needed: MQ – Include TV Production? Reason Course is Offered – old program name needs updating. Textbook – needs updating. Typical Graded Assign – change the point of view so you are not talking to the students.

TV R112 – Introduction to Storyboarding – New course/goes to DTRW-I & BOT. Could articulate with CI.

Changes Needed: Change repeatability to 1. Distinguish what is happening in lab vs. homework. Clarify that in lab section. Typical Graded Assign – many of these read more like objectives than assignments. MQ – why Art? Will this be elective in major? Methods of Inst – feel like assignments rather than instructions; update these. Textbook needs updating.

ENGL R189C – Argumentation and Critical Thinking Module – New course/goes to DTRW-I & BOT. Can add this to ENGL R102 to meet requirement of AA-T in English.

HIST R104 – History of California – Non-substantial change.

Changes Needed: Textbook – missing “latest edition of” for 2003 book. Student Option – Erika thinks it is a mistake to select pass/no pass.

Christina Tafoya presented the HED course. Discussion about how to offer DA material using other existing courses in other areas. DA instructors would never be teaching it b/c of the Minimum Qual. Maybe have the courses as prereqs.

HED R105 – First Aid/Personal Safety – Substantial change/goes to DTRW-I & BOT: co-listed with DA R105.

Changes Needed: Missing Typical Graded Assignments. See other comments from DA R105. Make sure course fee is removed. Review last sentence in Reason Course is Offered. Change textbook. Catalog Description – add that students can get Red Cross Professional Rescuer card.

Graciella Casillas presented the PE course and the Kinesiology program.

PE R134A – Escrima/Filipino Martial Arts – Non-substantial change.

Changes Needed: Proposed start date – 2013. Methods of Eval – essay/term papers would need to be checked; but it’s now a lab, so that is not

Chris Mainzer presented the Physics program.

Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer – New program/goes to DTRW-I & BOT.

Changes Needed: Change title to “Associate in Science in Physics for Transfer.”

Student Services

Emma Waits presented the PG course.

PG R100B – Student Success: Strategies for Academic Success – New course/goes to DTRW-I & BOT. Experimental course is working really well.

Changes Needed: Remove “PG” from course number. Units do not align; should be 1 hr. lecture. Repeatability is blank. Add a textbook, like “Master Student” or more appropriate, “Making the Mark.” Change numbering so one does not assume it’s in the 100 course, maybe better as R102B. Move non-textbooks to “Other.”

VI. Distance Learning Approval I None. T. Bonham reported that the next Distance Education Subcommittee meeting is in November.

XI. Discussion and Approval of “Families”

S. Davis handed out Title 5 changes summary and talked through it. Teresa showed a new form that was emailed to the committee that is used to propose families. Only PE, Arts and Performing Arts have families. Teresa has requested that these departments complete this form. Jim made form modification suggestions.

T. Bonham called for a motion to accept the Families form as presented. J. Merrill moved to accept, J. Redding seconded, and the motion carried unanimously.

XVI. GE Subcommittee report I S. Davis reported that they haven’t met.

XVII. DTRW-I Committee report I K. Mendelsohn reported which courses and programs on this agenda are going to DTRW-I. T. Bonham explained that the MATH courses were

pulled at the last DTRW-I, Bret Black has revised, and they will go back to DTRW-I.

XVIII CurricUNET discussion I, D Concern was voiced about the “officialness” of our Course Outlines since CurricUNET is not allowing curriculum to be completed in a most accurate manner. A request was made to remove many sample courses so the public does not see them. Bola will follow-up.

Marc Prado is hosting faculty drop-in hours on Mondays from 11am to 12pm, and probably Tuesdays from 6pm to 7pm. Marc will confirm the Tuesday evening hours.
