1 Curriculum and Training Lead—Primary Numeracy Academic Mentoring Pro- gramme (FTC July 2021) The role The National Tutoring Programme is a government- funded, sector-led initiative to support schools to address the impact of Covid-19 on pupilslearn- ing. There is a substantial attainment gap between pupils from disadvantaged backgrounds and their classmates – and analysis suggests this is likely to grow significantly whilst schools are closed to most pupils. There is extensive evidence showing the positive impact of tutoring to support pupils who have fallen behind. The Academic Mentoring Programme aims to sup- port schools to provide high quality tuition to all pupils, especially those who need it the most. Teach First will recruit, train and match 1,000 Academic Mentors with schools. The rundown: You will join a busy team working at pace on this new and exciting programme. You will play a key role in the development of subject specific training for Academic Mentors and in providing ongoing support for mentors for the duration of the programme. Youll embrace a flexible, agile approach to your work, working collaboratively with your Curriculum and Training Lead colleagues whilst taking the lead on your subject area. Youll take ownership for: Leading the curriculum design for your subject within agreed timeframes, frameworks and standards. Delivering the best training and support to your Academic Mentors Developing high quality follow up curriculum and training that suits the needs of academic mentors and the schools where they are placed. Ensuring the programme curriculum and training reflect the latest evidence and research on effective tutoring interventions. Excellent working relationships with your Academic Mentors, schools and colleagues. Understanding your Safeguarding obligations and the protection of children and young people by completing mandatory training and staying up to date on relevant policies The detail: day-to-day work Retain academic mentors in line with KPIs for the duration of the programme. Ensure school and academic mentor satisfaction in line with KPIs for the duration of the programme. Work with a team of curriculum and training leads to align and develop best practice and continue to improve the content and delivery of training. Deliver synchronous training and monitor engage- ment with and progress through blended learning. Support Academic Mentor wellbeing.

  • About you

    The essentials:

    • Subject Knowledge: You specialise in Primary Numeracy

    • Sector Knowledge: You’ve got QTS and have worked as a school leader. You’ve got relevant phase and subject knowledge (Secondary, Primary or Early Years) and understand outstanding classroom pedagogy. Your knowledge of the Teachers' Stand-ards is outstanding.

    • Developing Others: You’ve developed, mentored and coached inexperienced teachers within a training route for at least two years. e.g. PGCE, Schools Direct, Teach First etc.

    The nice to haves:

    • You’ve got experience of tutoring and small group interventions.

    • You’ve got experience of innovative coaching and mentoring practices

    • You can interpret research and know how to put it into practice

    • You can demonstrate your knowledge of evidenced-based teacher practices and evaluating interventions in schools
