READINGS FOR NEXT SUNDAY FIRST READING: Acts of the Apostles 8:5-8,14-17 (55A) With great success, Philip went to Samaria to proclaim the Christ and work miracles. When the apostles heard about Philip’s work, they sent Peter and John to pray that the Samari-tans receive the Holy Spirit. RESPONSORIAL PSALM: 66:1-7.16,20 Let all the earth cry out to God with joy. SECOND READING: 1 Peter 3:15-18 Jesus “suffered for sins once.” He was put to death as far as fleshly existence goes but received life according to the spirit. GOSPEL: John 14:15-21 Jesus assured the disciples that He would not leave them or-phaned but would ask the Father to send “another Advocate” to be with them always. Jesus said that He would still reveal Him-self to those who love Him. Please remember Martha Schermann, Dolores Ryan and the residents of Laclede Groves and Mary, Queen & Mother.

STEWARDSHIP REFLECTIONS STEWARDSHIP

“The very stone which the builders rejected has become the cornerstone.” 1 PETER 2:7 Everyone is given unique gifts. Many people are able to rec-ognize their talents and abilities, but there are many people who are unsure of their gifts. This may make them feel worth-less. If you know someone who is struggling for a direction in life, give them a little encouragement. Help them discern how they might use their skills.

All parishioners are invited to attend the next Pastoral Council meeting on Wednesday, May 21st at 6:30 p.m. in the parish hall.

“To all the members of the Church, the people of life and for life, I make this most urgent appeal, that together we may offer this world of ours new signs of hope, and work to ensure that justice and solidarity will increase and that a new culture of human life will be affirmed, for the building of an authentic civi-lization of truth and love.” -Pope Saint John Paul II

In your charity, please pray for the repose of the soul of Jane Tado, who died on May 11th and for whom a Funeral Mass was held on May 16th at Laclede Grove Chapel. Please also pray for Peg Eberle, who died on May 11th, and for whom a Memorial Mass will held in church on May 31st. May their souls and the souls of all the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.

We want you to be comfortable, but that can be accomplished without sacrificing modesty in dress. Low-cut blouses, too-short shorts, shirts unbuttoned half-way to the waist can draw people’s attention away from God and can be occasion of sin for them. Modest dress reveals self-respect and concern for God and others.
